Aho - one of the most creative and independent composers of our time. Musical high potency!
This is a work of intense emotions, in a meditative, even melancholy, atmosphere that sustains its mood well. Its thematic material is bleak but still manages to be attractive. I was intrigued by the text and author Kolmar, who I found is a well-known German-Jewish poet and a victim of the Holocaust. I don't know if "Die Fahrende", or Aho's symphony, directly relates to circumstances in her life, but given its seriousness it certainly could. It is austere music that in listening, takes, and rewards, patience.
I enjoyed this symphony a lot. Great use of percussion and voice. Very atmospheric. Finland does it again!!
I enjoy this work, throughout. Especially the last movement with voice.
Wonderful ! Bleak, austere and rapturous throughout . Every second creative and communicative of dire times and OUR current need for change ! 19.26 feels like a new movement but it is connected possibly to previous music an is where the percussionists take center stage . 33:43 Is the 3rd movement .The singer has been waiting for a long time . ?39:05 is the last section a Finale of sorts ? 41st minute she sings .Very different more than the opening. Vocal part sounds heroic yet string music is intimate .the very high string soloists in first part of Symph were a startling standout ! Frenzy at end of 43rd minute with percussion haven't gotten translation of Kolmar's poem yet so don't know what text is about. There is a shifting motif we first heard in earlier movements that returns many scalar passages ...Will definitely listen again to beginning !
Para mim, esta sinfonia é uma obra-prima, uma explosão de sons vindos do privilegiado cérebro de Kalevi para tocar nossos corações!
Aho is forever restless and searching. He seems to know no complacency. I would like to know which of his works he values the most and why but it would also not surprise me to find out that he never looks back.
Magic...thank you !
Aho must be the most prolific Finnish symphonist. Good music.
Actually, the most prolific Finnish symphonist is Leif Segerstam, who has composed 319 symphonies (a world record, I presume). However, Aho's symphonies are much better, at least to me.
Excellent piece - one of his best in recent years. I really enjoyed this! Thanks for uploading it, but I hope a commercial recording isn't far away. Was this a radio broadcast?
I'm a fan of Aho
The instrumental work is so personal and adictive ,but the vocal part is like so other composers work ( a shame).
Something's happening with the vocal composition in the actual time Line.
Go Aho !
Danke
Does anyone know if there is a commercial recording of this symphony? I can't find any...
Does somebody have a libretto?
Where can't I find this recording?
Try Antarctica.
@@kennethdower7425 -- Am I to understand that you Disparage this work?
@@steveegallo3384 No, you don't understand.
@@kennethdower7425 -- Which begs the question....Why do you pretend to Communicate at all?
@@steveegallo3384 It was a joke, you pompous moronic twat. Now, stop being so full of yourself and just fuck off.
I'm good for a while; then about halfway through around the transition to the "Eastern" flavor I get bored. It's NOT the Eastern thing per se, rather the lack of real musical creativity. Novelty and "other" as a substitute for inventiveness can not be condoned nor enjoyed as art.
