Flounder bite is different. Drag your bait SLOW across the bottom, instead of popping it up and down, and when you feel a thump - DONT set the hook right away. Feel the thump, keep line tight and wait for 2 or 3 more thumps, as the flounder is chewing on the bait. Then set the hook hard like you're trying to rip his lips off. Side note, I seem to always do better on a rising tide with some current.
Appreciate you capturing all the new adventures on the boat. I don’t own a boat so it’s nice to watch a newbie figure it all out 👍🏼. Stoked on this new addition to the Chanel !
Nice fish! When I surf fish for flounder and California halibut here on the West Coast, I always add a #4 octopus hook as a stinger near the tail. Four out of five fish that I catch are on the stinger hook. I think flounder like to short strike.
Hey man I love your videos and you are a great fisherman, much better at inshore than me for sure. I noticed you like to fish paddletails with the same pop pop retrieve. I’m not sure if you do this already but sometimes it’s a good idea to change your retrieve or speed throughout the day to see what they are liking best. For example like a slow roll retrieve so it ticks the bottom or reel and jerk etc. Again love your videos just an idea. Keep doing your thing!
We're spending a week down there starting Jul 5th. Hoping to catch some Flounder, Trout, and Pompano for sure, can't wait to try some real fresh saltwater fish. Living in midwest you don't get fresh anything.
Fish will release itself from the pan when it is ready to flip. So if you try to move it and It sticks then leave it alone for a bit longer and try again . Also adding a little neutral oil to your butter will raise the smoke point of the butter which will allow you to get the pan hotter and help with searing .
Up here on the east coast people have been throwing 1/4 oz. or larger jig heads with a piece of raw bacon on it. Securing it is the hard part but underwater video show flounder coming off the bottom and taking it. Good fishing
Try the Hoodwink by Southern Salt.. you will not be disappointed. Good for TROUT , good for REDFISH , GREAT! for FLOUNDER! Maybe carry them at your store?😮
I caught my biggest flounder with the doggone Hoodwink, 22.75 incher in Sea Island, Georgia. 95% of my flounder catches have been with Salt Strong plastics.
Most of the flounder I have caught has been on Berkeley Gulp shrimp, just sitting on the bottom and twitching slightly. The largest one was actually on dead shrimp off of a pier. It was over 20 inches in Myrtle Beach.
Butter itself burns really easy. Try avocado oil , grape seed oil or coconut oil. I don't know how you clean your cast-iron but do not put it in the dishwasher! Hand wash hot soapy water . Dry it it and re-oil . You probably already know that, but just in case. Oh add your butter right before it's done, no burn no stick .
I don’t use cast iron to cook with … I use a good Costco non stick skillet … I also use salted butter and or avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil … and maybe just over medium heat and turn them often … and no sticking happens … it’s kinda best to slow cook on medium heat .
I think you did good 👍 flounder fishing I love flounder fishing I think they are the best tasting saltwater fish you allso cleaned them good I bread them and fried mine 😊
When you heat the pan the metal grain structure on the surface opens up so if you wait until the pan is heated up before adding lubricants it may help.
No shade on the air fryer! Its amazing what you can cook in one. Some times, you just have to experiment with how to cook different things with an air fryer. Flounder makes a delicious sandwich. I love to eat to a good flounder sandwich
I had a goal to catch my first flounder out of the surf on my trip to Navarre last October...I did it with White Gulp Curly Tail and a White Jig Head...1/2 Ounce...
@BamaBeachBum you could still do a review. I've been watching you for years and never knew you had anything other than a kayak. I appreciate those kayak videos by the way as I kayak fish mostly.
Dude no offense but you are fishing like a bass fisherman Flounder lay on the bottom and your bait needs to sink all the way down with a slow retrieve In fact some of my best flounder fishing is being anchored and dropping straight down with slight jigging action But you just need to let it get way down and slow retrieve
You almost got it figured out … you said you barely jigged … and you caught one … and that’s the secret to Flounder they lay on the bottom … and when you jig … the bait you use bounces over them … slow drag the bait on the bottom… problem solved

This advice is only good for live bait.

Flounder: Half a strip of bacon on a jig head on the bottom. Slow drag. They do not hit, just feel like something dragging on the line.
Will this work surf fishing?
thx for your time... Nicely done on that third flounder... bravo...
Try Mud Minnows! They cannot resist them. Carolina Rig, or float (with the right depth and conditions).

She growing up so fast. Great video keep it up.
Yes she is
try creek mouths on a dropping tide the flounder wait to ambush the baits as they come out.
Dimples ,that's what the texture is on that jig 👍 keep up the great.

Egret Baits Vudu Shrimp with Flounder scent... fish it on the bottom like a Bass worm!

*The Ladies Man voice*: "Can I buy you a fish sandtwhitch?"
Glad someone picked up the reference!
Sounds like you might catch a Labrador in that first spot! j/k
For real lol
Nice flounder!!!! Great video!!!
Thanks!
Courtney has some “ Guns”
Cool video. Maybe you could do a collaboration with John Skinner?
Thanks!
They will get right up against that grass on incoming and high tide. Better to throw parallel for that situation.
Season your cast iron skillet with bacon grease in the oven for awhile,
can u do more pier videos
Add just a little bit of olive oil to your butter when frying.
You need to try what we all Texas slam it probably the same as your. trout , red and flounder we give our in 5 hours
On average, how deep is the water from the sea wall out to your general casting spot in Mobile Bay?
It’s pretty shallow. Maybe 1-2’
Thanks
Do you have a boat review video?
This is still my older used boat.
@BamaBeachBum you could still do a review. I've been watching you for years and never knew you had anything other than a kayak. I appreciate those kayak videos by the way as I kayak fish mostly.
i always catch them with the down south lures
You in the best spot in week Bay Area man
June early July and October November for big flounder
Put a little oil it should stop it from sticking
Use some curly tail grubs on a jig head with a chicken rig you’ll kill it
Definitely use some extra virgin olive oil to prevent sticking to your pan❤❤
Onno Island?
Ok, Mobile Bay
cant go wrong with the MOJO
Definitely a solid choice!
Dude no offense but you are fishing like a bass fisherman
Flounder lay on the bottom and your bait needs to sink all the way down with a slow retrieve
In fact some of my best flounder fishing is being anchored and dropping straight down with slight jigging action
But you just need to let it get way down and slow retrieve
Leave it on the bottom and drift
Old video of y'all gign in the surf.....
You almost got it figured out … you said you barely jigged … and you caught one … and that’s the secret to Flounder they lay on the bottom … and when you jig … the bait you use bounces over them … slow drag the bait on the bottom… problem solved
Cook with ev olive oil
Flounder is one of the best! You should fish with @captcollier and let him show you how to catch more of them!
Hey that’s a great idea! I could probably outfish him.
@@BamaBeachBum let’s see that collab!!
