To be honest, I think the bowties detract from the piece. The table itself looks like an island in the tropical ocean (dark blue epoxy would have really sealed the deal), so the cracks would have looked like natural channels of water. (Just my opinion)
yeah that was also my first thought. The bowties devalues this nice piece. And like you said with a dark blue and maybe some green features in the middle it would have looked like an island.
It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into czcams.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.
When I look at the finished product it reminds me of an Atoll. I like how it came out with the black but I wonder what it could have looked like with a lighter blue epoxy in the middle and a darker blue on the outside.
I agree 💯, I thought that an Atoll, with a Blue Epoxy and Glittering with Bioluminescence, from the Sea life!!! I Wish I could be affording even the Epoxy,,, but it was a Huge Amount!! IMHO Epoxy is just hideous and ridiculously polluting. AND Bowties should be SHARP and made of WOOD! And they should perform their purpose of pulling the two pieces together AT LEAST.
Just a creative thought....maybe you could fill the cracks with gold paint. Like when pottery gets cracked in Japan they fill it with gold. I actually loved them first table base. Super modern!
I believe this would have made this piece stand out so much better and look way more premium. I agree that the bow ties did not fit here at all, almost looks like they were added just to include it in the video for some reason. The small gold lines to fill up the cracks, in combination with the dark epoxy and wood would've been really nice!
Brilliant idea which I never thought of. The strange part of me not thinking of it is that I'm looking at my marble coffee table right now with a hairline crack in it and had already decided to use that method to fix it
Speaking as someone with a photography background, i agree with the others - you need better sales pictures...if you're aiming for a 5k price tag you'd be wise to spend a a little bit on getting the pictures taken professionally (or maybe work out a quid pro quo with a photographer who needs some woodwork doing)
Despite watching many other woodworking channels and hearing them reference your work, this is somehow my first experience with your videos. Love the discussions on project economics and design changes, but the epoxy slow jams…that was by far the best. 😆 I’m a new sub now. Can’t wait to go through the backlog.
This turned out sooooooo well. You should do another with the black epoxy surrounding it, but a blue lagoon feel coming through the cracks into the abyss like an island in the abyss. That would look really cool too.
I've always had the thought the base, legs, etc. of a table should be regarded in the same way a frame for a painting is. It can kill a painting or bring out the best in it. I liked the design for the original base but not the material used, that is the plywood. The second design choice seemed stolid to me and lacked the novelty and style that the top slab with epoxy had, which was very interesting but not overwhelming.
I agree on that and I'll admit that I couldn't make a table as pretty as this but I would also have made it oval or rounded the edges; just because I think round in round looks best
I think the bowties draws attention. The cracks should have remained as was. But overall, a very high-end piece. I totally enjoyed your off-hand comments in between
Yeah bow ties only look good if they're actually originally planned into the design like depending on the color of epoxy and wood using some kind of contrasting bow tie can work
What a blessing that you are helping your daughter pay for further education! Ultimately, we are each responsible for our own learning, so you are going above and beyond!
I own a Custom Home Building Company in the Dallas, Texas area so we aren’t far apart. I have six homes breaking ground all between 1.7-2.6 million. Let’s see if we can get that college fund paid for. My daughter just graduated, my son is in his second year and yes it’s extremely expensive! I am thinking some back lite bar walls and countertops. May the force be with you…
I think it could have benefited better with some under lighting to accent the depth of the resin and the gnarly inside ring of the cookie but thats just my opinion. Either way it looks great
Thank you for talking about mental health. I won’t use your sponsor only because I already have a therapist, but if I didn’t, I would totally use better help.
Such a nice burl, only to be covered up so much. Like ya, you can still see some of it, but I think it would have looked better with a different approach
CELEBRATE THE CRACK!!! Jonny, I really love watching your epoxy builds. As a long-time woodworker, I've been trying to figure out how to start working with epoxy. Just small-scale stuff, but something that would be fun and somewhat challenging.
Is there anyway you could give me a rough estimate on what you think my vintage redwood burl coffee table is worth? I’m selling it but I feel like I’m letting it go too cheap. Any help would be much appreciated
Beautiful! If I had 5,000 in my back pocket, I’d get it today. Also for your daughter’s education. There are MANY! grants and scholarships available that never are given out. I don’t think he’s having any trouble laying for her college when he’s got a massive workshop with a CNC machine and making tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars off CZcams plus selling the stuff he makes lol
Might not want to be crying about your daughter's tuition when working on a giant, expensive, cnc machine in a shop that most of us would have to mortgage our homes to set up.
The ad revenue from a channel this size should be decent as well. Plus the BetterHelp sponsorship. I get that it's probably a marketing tactic, but...yeah. If he's struggling with his daughter's tuition, a financial advisor might be in order. Or some hard thinking about whether her degree will be worth the price tag.
Wood slab table with an epoxy Lazy Suzanne. That is what I thought you were going to do with this before I watched the video. Another wonderful piece !!!!
Beautiful piece! I think you should put more pictures in your eBay listing with better detail, and maybe set up in a room. The better a buyer can imagine it in their own room, the higher the price they'll pay.
Exactly, it looks stunning but the photos don't do it justice. Even if you just took screen grabs from this video that'd be a big improvement. Good luck! ps, love your builds and that song is now stuck in my head lol :)
I totally agree. Wanting $5k for this piece isn't out of the realm, but wanting $5k with the two sub-par pictures is. Staging is half the battle to selling high-end pieces.
I'm not a huge fan of epoxy and wood but I really liked the assembly of the base of the table. The walnut is gorgeous, I just wish people would stop staining everything so dark. Some of us just want as natural of a finish as possible.
Hey buddy! Amazed at how it turned out! Really think it’s worth putting a link in your eBay description to this video so bidders can see the work that went into it. Best of luck to your daughter!
LOVE this piece! Looks like an island with a lake in the middle or something. Very cool. Also the slow sexy song in the middle of the video was just too much 😂😂😂😂😂 loved it!
I enjoy your videos, so this is not meant to be trolling. I went to the ebay listing and your photos need to be better. Cam from Blacktail has a video on it. Could help, definitely couldn't hurt. I wanna see you sell it too!
I read what a lot of you said. You missed the love for his daughter. Jonny must be a WONDEFUL Father! His goal is to make his daughter's life an adventure! I think that the table is expensive looking and well worth $5,000!! Find a way to sign your work. Listen with a half ear to the comments, but keep up the art work. I'm proud of you! From a 70 year old daughter that loved to watch her own dad create.
@Teresa Valliere. A nice idea BUT... This would not work so well because as you add each resin layer to the piece then the "tide line" where each layer finishes and the new one /colour (note British English spelling 🙂) starts would be quite noticeable, rather than a changing blend as I think you are implying. A practicle solution might be to use a different "grade" of resin which permits pours of up to 4 inches but this still would not give you the changing tint, rather being able to see further to the base of the table. However, this brings its own complications re overheating / curing problems!
I can’t help to think that pouring in two layers will leave a line between the two layers along the sides, as it’s very hard to match colors between pours, even when using a black tint. How did you avoid that situation or didn’t you?
Love how you showed you changed directions and what it costs to do so. I’ve done this on so many projects. Really hope you will consider wearing a mask during epoxy use.
Just curious how much $$ did you sink into this project. Am aware that epoxy isn't cheap & you used gallons. While Art isn't always about profit, it's important to not worry about living while creative juices flow.🤔
Holy shit, you are the first that I see to use this plastic for the mold. I used the same stuff for smaller builds and always wondered, why everybody here is using that expensive tape. Also, nice build!
Years ago this type of scrap wood would be used for fire wood, but with the price of wood today it's better to use whatever you can get to make something beautiful. Congratulations on a beautiful table.
Absolutely beautiful brother!! The finished product did surprise me. It came out very eloquent in its design that was on the fly. The You-Tube commenters are just brutal. You've got guys criticizing something they don't have the balls to even try and attempt to make, let alone put on line publicly for all to see. Usually some guy bumping his gums that your crying about your daughters college tuition ,when you have fancy equipment, lives in his mothers basement, and works at a pot co- op selling weed. I wouldn't pay these lazy snowflakes no mind about your project. Kudos to you man!! What a beautiful looking piece!!!! Have you sold it yet??
He will. People go gogogaga for a warped piece of wood filled with plastic. It's the ultimate 21st century fad. 10 years from now most of these tables will be yellowed, warped and thrown in the garbage.
Like many of your viewers, I enjoy your creativity, design ideas and execution. I may be in the minority, but when a successful craftsperson with over a half million followers and multiple sponsors complains about paying an extra $75 or even $1,000 dollars, it’s extremely off putting. And making this video about whether or not some overly entitled person pays you $5,000 for your pretty nice table, in my opinion is a poor choice. I hope in the future that you can be a bit more grateful for things and realize just how good you have it, and leave the complaining to those who really need to complain. I hope you take this advice in the spirit in which I have intended it; to have you be the best version of yourself that you can be.
I would point out that these content creators don't make as much as you think they do, and I for one appreciate the breakdown of cost with the expected/hoped for profit.
Wow! Judging the book by the cover much?? Why is it your job to tell him how to be the best version of himself??? especially when you do not know him outside of some videos online!
This is my opinion. He can do with it what he wants. Obviously I’ve pushed some button for you. Sorry if I’ve hit one of your triggers. I even state I may be in the minority of his viewers in terms of this opinion.
The points you try to make may be valid to you.. However, I think it is been seen by most viewers as bringing some lighthearted humor into the mix. Besides that, it seems to me a bit odd to complain about someone complaining... but then again, that could be just me😇
@@henridejong9433 I’m not complaining, but using my skills as an advertising and marketing professional to try and assist someone. The only thing I find strange is your need and whoever else responds to my comment’s need to say anything. As I have said, he is free to do whatever he wishes, as are you. At least my comment was designed to be of some sort of support and benefit, unlike yours. Seriously!
It's all about that base.. about that base.. about that base... (don't sing along, you'll hate me... =) Love the table, Love Total Boat products! Hey, thought you said you were going to do a deep abyss green inside? Liar, liar, pans on fire! Nice project, glad I subscribed!
Coool. Looks like a volcanic crater island. Easy sell. Take it to any number of ritzy locations like Seaside and Rosemary beach on the Florida panhandle just west of Panama City. Pardon me for saying so, but the bowties are a mistake. They destroy the natural look. Would've looked great with the black "ocean" flowing through them - the more irregular the better.
You should have just filled the center and left it live edge with a very simple metal base and it would be a master piece. What made is beautiful and i hope you sell it. If it were live edge it would have been art. I really how you used the epoxy to make the smaller bowties now that was clever🎉
Wish you had done it up like the big blue hole that the divers like. Found a way to make the bow ties look like old ship wrecks. But neat none the less
Corners on a coffee table can do a lot of damage if you walk into it, dinning table are fine you can navigate them by hand in the dark but this piece in the dark? Definitely need back lighting

Love that idea, but I don't think it would've given him the rich look that he was going for or brought in the desired value.
I think dark blue would have still given it a rich look. I like the black but the blue I think would have been a little more my taste
I agree. It looks ridiculous imo...
@@_veronica_r yeah i know they are for stability but surely theres a better way to make it stable than that

I highly doubt you will get $5k
Stunning suggestion for the rib cage frame maybe an clear appox top
You had me when you started to sing 😂
Wish you had done it up like the big blue hole that the divers like. Found a way to make the bow ties look like old ship wrecks. But neat none the less
Corners on a coffee table can do a lot of damage if you walk into it, dinning table are fine you can navigate them by hand in the dark but this piece in the dark? Definitely need back lighting
“Celebrate the crack” - and he cleverly had the camera pan around his backside 😂😂😂
It's stunning!
I enjoyed watching this video but man I got a really good laugh at the “im bout to epoxy you girl song”‼️‼️😂😂😂😂 I couldn’t stop laughing. That’s when I knew I had to subscribe
Can i download it on Apple 😂😂
why not use the bowties at the bottom? The cracks would add to the aesthetics and look more natural, everything else looks great.
That statement about OK weather is so true lol
This is actually my favourite table you've made
"Celebrate the crack" ! For sure, it was a good idea ! Very beautiful project ! Thanks for sharing !👍😉
Absolutely stunning 🤩 thank you for sharing!
I would have imagined a brown-green outer with a blue-deep blue-turquoise inside. Table would bump-up like a crater
That R&B section won you a follow. Good job sir ! 😂
That original concept base you made is nice with the curves it looks like something modern from Star Trek
I, too loved the first base!
The smokey black is great! Love the fading into the depth effect!
Thank you for your honesty today. I am from Oklahoma too, but I live on a farm in Iowa now.
‘Epoxy over you’ needs to be on Apple Music. That’s the best song ever!😂😂😂
WOW!!!! That is absolutely awesome!! I love the 'abyss' look to see the wood character.
