This series is one of the best available. Keep it going and please do more ocean floor scans for us to enjoy! I much prefer ancient history rather than war vehicles but I'm good with either.

We currently have a Drain the Oceans livestream going on our channel homepage- a full season of episodes! Definitely check it out when you get the chance!
Jonnoooo!!

It is masterfully produced - top scientists, top graphics, and top narration.
What a 👍treat!

+Drain the Ocean" - this episodes are insane !
Miss Cyprus so much, Mediterranean sea is truly one of the best seas on Earth 🌍 ❤full of myth and history
Reality and facts ❤
I appreciate the general truth behind this series. I also appreciate that this series is taking on a more factual approach than that of Anc. Aliens on the H Channel, which I do not respect (that series or channel).
This series, on the opposite end, focuses on the truth, what we do know or can truly infer, and what conclusions we can now draw from these legitimate and factual findings under the seas/oceans.
Please continue this series and remain true to providing truth to the world so as to educate us and our youth with empowered knowledge in the betterment of furthering our society.
At this point the H channel needs to change it's name. It has nothing to do with History and is little more than a joke. Such a shame, honestly. I'm a lover of history and ancient civilizations. That channel only seems to focus on bafoonery. I'm thankful for Nat Geo. They're bringing things to us that otherwise most would never see or hear.

I absolutely LOVED this documentary, thank you so much for creating and uploading it! 💗
For almost 2000 years residents of Naples and its environs have said, "not in my lifetime." One of these days Vesuvius or her big sister will erupt and end the argument, but not in my lifetime.
I used to hate to study History when I was a students, but I enjoy learning it this way beacause this full episode is informative and lively. I wish i could watch these content for years to come! Thanks NaGeo! I love everyone here. From Vietnam with love

3600 years ago, ancient humans knew how to press olive oil, among many many many other, now incredible things.
Humans are amazing, really amazing for a doomed species.
If you think that is crazy you should look up gobekli tepe
😊👍Great documentary!
Humans have short lives, and short memories.
They tend to live in blissful ignorance of their likely sudden demise.
Even when told of it, they ignore it, and pretend it won't happen to them, until it does!

Loved the science and the wonderful animations. Could have done without the melodramatic narration - the plain facts are dramatic enough! Please keep the solid content coming.
AGREED! TOO MUCH!!!
A great series!
Wonderful to learn about history in this way, great documentary, Nat Geo never disappoints! Thank you so much for creating and sharing!!!!
Very cool thanks . My dad used to live on Cyprus and snorkeled off the beach .
he found a bunch of broken pots .
Took some to show the folks at the museum , who immediately confiscated them .
He did bring me one of the pot necks , inner diameter 70 mm overall 300 mm .
The handles were flatter than the ones seen here . :-)
What did the museum tell him? Why did they confiscated it?
@@dianaroach3093 They said they were ancient artifacts and 'belonged' to Cyprus and the museum :-(
@@scottgordon1781 Brits always had a hard time understanding the concept of ownership of a land's historical legacy. Do you believe those artefacts belonged to your father because he recovered them? nothing quite like a good ole apocalyptic outlook, is there?
Like Yellowstone, Krakatoa and a few others, if the bay of Naples blows up, the entire planet would be in very very deep trouble.
Do NOT forget about "Taal"... got goosebumps only having to write this comment
no more climate change, haha
I bet there was some epic naval battles back in the day.
We can only imagine what it would have looked like
Very interesting indeed. I find it interesting that it assumes Rebuilding effects were underway with the evidence of Beds & Piles of bricks; when it would have been safer to be outdoors and could have reflected Rescue effects and injury triage.
the best ever fron national geographic..you tube keep it going hence planning to purchase .. bravo
Absolutely fascinating. One of my favorites! Saved! Sitting here wondering who I can share it with.

THANK YOU for continually putting out programs of intelligence! Thank you for not polluting your channel with not-really-reality shows. I always look to Nat Geo for QUALITY programs and thankfully you do not disappoint.
Excellent. Thank you. Lets not forget Herculaneum either.
i cant believe the adoring fan himself is presenting this documentary to me, by azura!!!
Nothing is forever. Some humans will learn about many of us in similar ways few thousand yrs from now!
It might sound dumb but I sometimes think the Earth is a living plant in a way and the volcano is it's heart or life of the planet. Like I said it might sound dumb. The ring of fire is massive and we are here as it's care taker. I love seeing that things you show.
The music and the sound effects are ridiculously loud.
I didn't know that they only use those jars a few times and I had no idea how much they weigh. Of course it's hard to get this scale sometimes and I'm sure they were different sizes
Absolutely jaw dropping series
A lot of great information is synthesized in this video, but the over dramatization detracts from the value. You implied that the people of Akrotiri were caught in the major eruption, but all evidence suggests that they had abandoned the site and taken their valuables before the town was buried. Also, you constantly used the word "proves" which has no scientific value. I encourage you to aim a little higher.
Thank you, oh wise and learned one, for demanding such excellence as your intellectual mantle shall require for its splendor. Be it done according to thy most gracious encouragement.
@@paulhallett1452 you are welcomed. Always happy to help.
I wonder what will be left of our civilization in 2,000 years. What will be left of our cities and skyscrapers? Not much I suspect.
Excellent information sir.. thank you

Sudden environment change may be equivalent to "wrath of the gods". It's great that science can help us identify these changes. It'd be nice to find them, time them, and measure them. Figure out how often they occur, where and how big. Tons of near extinction events. Sadly some changes, like water tables in Punjab, put a billion people at risk. Twice I saw floods wipe out neighborhoods down by the river in my city and those homes stunk. Everything had to be thrown out. Yeah, definitely a problem.
This "wrath of the gods" happened during the Titan Wars.
I think the same thing with the big bang theory. It sounds an awful lot like genesis lol. From chaos: order. Something created from nothing. Let there be light.
Well said. It is a terrible problem that has plagued the earth since it was born.
Very cool thank you for your sharing.
Are we ready for a disaster no covid has shown the world we are not ready. Stop fighting and help each other. One day something will happen and we all need each other to survive
Nice video thanks for sharing
I appreciate how you treat the rostrum (ram) of a Roman galley like it was some kind of mysterious thing... I don't expect your audience to be an expert on naval archeology, then again, neither am I...
See in the first few minutes, where paintings are shown of men with cattle. As I am a firm believer in 'giants' of varying heights, I noticed the oddity of the cattle, in comparison with that of those ( the men) shown. Many have not yet learned/accepted the business of giants being a normal part of the past world/civilizations, even being around in certain isolated areas today !
Does anyone know if these scans are in public domain or made public or anything? It would be fascinating to poke at data like that
Have you tried googling "public LIDAR database" and following the rabbit hole?

Except the "Minoans" were Greeks, and is just a name Evans randomly gave to Kretans, who are Proto-greeks, to describe a period in the history of Greece, seeing as the "Minoans" had similar gods, similar religion, and a language that seems to be the precursor of what is called "Mycenaean", which is the next major Greek period in its history.
How do they know it was “one of the biggest eruptions in the history of the planet “? It’s been around for ~4 billion years. Maybe they meant it was one of the top 50% biggest eruptions in Earth’s history. But even then…?
They said it on the documentary - they can measure the explosion based on the spreading of the ash
@@ALT-vz3jn I appreciate your response, but I stand by what I wrote. It’s just too speculative. 4 BILLION years is a long time.

It's interesting that the amphora shape took hundreds of years to evolve to perfection. (Because it looks weird and terrible) I wish they would have shown WHY they're so specifically shaped.
My recollection is that the shape meant they could be stacked in a room or hold. Outie bits and innie bits fit together like an interlocking puzzle.
Nature is magically wonderful!
Interesting...however...never ceases to amaze me how these scientists continue to speak in such final terms as to what happened hundreds to thousands of years before.....only to be later debunked or superseded by newer theories/discoveries often aided by newer tech.....

Just mind blowing 🤯
Santorini probably is the Atlantis which ancient Greeks spoke, this catastrophe who ruined the advanced civilization of Minoans and Santorini's became a legend to ancient Greeks and a myth to the modern world!
Santorini was also the probable reason why the 7 Plagues of Egypt happened, too. Well, the geological reason that is. I won't argue this point with anyone in a religious context.
@@anna-lisagirling7424 Some of us believe that the destruction of Santorini caused the tsunami that pulled back the Red Sea (Gulf of Aqaba) allowing the Israelites to cross, but then slamming back down on the Egyptian Army circa 1625 bce. [This allowed them to destroy Jericho in the late 1500’s BCE which is when Dr Kenyon dates it to.] The fact that Exodus doesn’t mention it inundating the land of Goshen where they lived, strongly implies they were already gone at that time.
This is MUCH earlier than the standard timeframe, (~1250 while Ramses the Great ruled - he wouldn’t be too great if the exodus plagues and drowning of his army happened on his watch) but lines up exactly with the end of the Middle Kingdom and the beginning of the hyksos rulers. In his history of Egypt, Meno wrote that the hyksos claimed to be unopposed when they conquered the land.
@@ktrimbach5771 That's some amazing speculation history for me to chew on! Thanks! Do you mean Dr. Kathleen Kenyon?
Thanks to these researchers and archeologists.
Could this be the origin of the great flood stories
Excellence personified, I'm a proud subscriber!
I loved it, although it told several stories together this time.
Marvellous documentary for the wider public. Fun fact: the "ram" on the Roman Trireme displayed and discussed in this episode, in Latin, is called, "ROSTRVM". This "rostrum" was taken from conquered ships and arranged in the FORVM.ROMAE. rather like a trophy. It was upon these "rostra" that the great Scipios and later, Sulla and then Cicero addressed the POPVLVS; a sign and symbol to the world of superiority. It is from this word in this context, that we have taken "rostrum" completely into English as "Rostrum" - a 'podium' from which a leader speaks. (Maybe this could have been mentioned - just to make more connexions between this remote time in our past and our present.)
Drain the ocean is in the title, there’s no need to start every paragraph with it.
