All very valid points except passenger accommodations. You can get a seat the attaches to the rack in back, and I think some fold out foot pegs. Why anybody would buy a 55mph trail bike for street use and then complain about not being able to keep up with typical traffic is beyond me. I bought my first Trail 90 after they first came out for $385. Now they must meet international regs and cost $4000 if you can find one for that price. Good luck finding service for your T-125 when/if you need it. I still have my '68 Trail 90, has a sticky transmission, not an easy fix, need to find a competent mech in SoCal. Always wished they had a clutch.

As an owner who puts 100+ miles a day on one I'll address your 'hates' (more dislikes? ;O)...
I've got a CT 125 in the UK and if they are rare in the USA they are basically nonexistent in the UK - you have to import them individually. I have had lots of bikes (small and big) and this one gets people smiling at me, looking over and with a look of genuine interest, and coming over to chat. I agree with with point one - Honda doesn't recognise what a lovely bike this is and how popular it would be globally.
The speed is what it is. It's a trail bike - think about that word ("trail"). I don't see it so much as it's too slow for the roads; rather western roads (USA or European roads) are too fast for it (at times). Basically everyone has come to expect to drive fast everywhere they go. We could all do with slowing down a bit and appreciate the scenery (town or country). If you want faster get the Super Cub. Currently you cannot have the 4x4 (off roader) looks (in motorcycle terms) and also cruise round town at 65 mph.
If you want a rear seat you can get one. However, a seven year old is too young to be on a bike - I love bikes but they are a big risk even if you yourself are a safe rider; too many idiots and bad road conditions to be safe enough for a young person to understand the requirements to hold on - or strength - and the dangers of the rear sprocket (legs have been mangled). It's your passion; your niece will have many years to decide on what she would like to do. A Super Cub with an enclosed chain would be safer here for pillion passengers.
Two ways to downshift if you cannot down change smoothly yet: either wait until you are coming to a stop and have slowed right down and then quickly change all the way down as you're almost stopping. Or, and especially if you just need to go down one gear: learn to blip it first. Foot changes down but before letting off the lever with your foot blip the throttle just a little and then release the foot lever. Try it. Works perfectly and when you learn it, it will be a revelation. Once you get the hang of it you can do a video on the process.
Duel range? Not required. You even say you would hardly use it. Move on.
Last point: the seat is uncomfortable. I don't find it so. I should say I'm pretty much a "professional" (if I can use that word) motorcycle rider when using it. I use it for Uber Eats, Just Eat (Grubhub in the USA), and Deliveroo. All like DoorDash etc. I easily put 100+ miles on the bike a day and have no problems. It's a brilliant delivery bike. It may be a personal thing - everyone is a bit different. However, I use a seat cover so maybe that helps? On Amazon (for example) search for "motorcycle seat mesh cover". I have the Cekell one. Works for me I guess. I'm also moving around a lot on the bike. Some riders think they are a basically a sack of potatoes when on the bike. Move about! :o). Shift a little forward, a little back, to the left, to the right. Push into the pegs to take the weight off the seat. Stand up off the bike at junctions and traffic lights. You aren't just ballast on the bike - it's OK to move.

Great points. I love this bike for what it is.... except the seat. Make sure to add a request to Corbin if you intend to keep it. Or take it to a local upholstery shop to recraft the oem one. That's what I did. Big difference in comfort.

You can get a pillion seat that bolts onto the rear rack. You can also get a replacement seat for the stock one that is twice as long to accommodate a passenger. It changes the look to be more reminiscent of the Cub 125.

My main concern is the speed. Even on secondary roads I find myself pulling over to let cars pass. I have to drive a bit to find dirt roads and find myself leaving the 125 at home and taking my crf300l instead. I wish it was a 150 that could easily do 55 to 60mpf. Around town it's fabulous.

Honda’s biggest mistake is releasing 125’s instead of 150’s for USA, as a lot of states (California) are 150cc minimum for freeways. That is why their PCX was bumped up from 125 to 150, but their other 125 models leave the factory obsolete. Yeah they sell, and 9/10 of those buyers probably wish their 125 was 150cc.

I agree with everything and we don’t even own one yet.
There so difficult to find and people are so determined to get them that the price gouging has became a meme.
I’ve been saying for a long time that the Honda mini line up needs a bigger bore for the US market not much but just a little more. I just picked up a new ADV150 and it pulls hills and cruises better than my old stage 2 grom. So if Honda would just make there minis run with the ADV that would be perfect.
Megan really wants a trail so whenever we get one it will 100% be getting a bench seat and a clutch. That metal hoop behind the seat looks like a tailbone breaker if I’ve ever seen one and learning to properly down shift a auto clutch is such a useless and unnecessary skill to have to learn. Allot of people hang onto the “it’s the way they were back in the day” but if they can upgrade the fuel system, brakes and the whole size of the bike they can add a manual clutch.

    • @JohnnyLREACTS
      @JohnnyLREACTS Před rokem

I am learning this. Basically, you need to release it very slowly and smoothly at the correct rpms or it will jerk on you. When I do it correctly it shifts smoothly although almost never bother with 2nd to 1st. Will do that at a stop. One thing I don't do is give throttle when releasing the shift. I kill the throttle and don't really introduce it again.

I don't think these bikes are even highway legal in most states, but it's not really intended for highways, It's a little, in-town runabout you can take off road.
How about a speedo you can see in bright sunlight or an attached helmet lock? The tool kit consists of a screw driver. It has tubed tires (more prone to blowouts} and spoked wheels, which need occasional truing by a specialist.
Speed? These bikes are geared down a bit for more off-road torque. If you want a faster (but not quicker} bike, just go up a tooth or two on the stock, 14 tooth countershaft sprocket. Easy-peasy.

Heel shift was originally to keep 'salary men' from scuffing their shoe on the way to the office. I find it a pain -- and I, too, would prefer a clutch.
The bike's too squirrely. A little more rake would make it much more stable and relaxing to ride.

First of all this is a TRAIL bike, the majority of its miles should be done off-road if you ride it on the road you should only go to where you're going to ride off-road. The design of the frame and the motor which is an absolute torque monster isn't geared up for the highway. As an owner of two Trail 90s in my past and looking for one for some retirement fun since I now live in the forest. I do see certain things that are unusual like disc brakes and abs on the front wheel however I don't think it has the Dual range transmission. The trail 90 with a dual range transmission had enough torque and enough power 2 practically go up the side of a tree.

Kind of makes me hate Honda. Why won't they produce more? It's like we merged with some bizarro universe where nothing can be reasonable.
