Pacific Crest Trail | Episode Eight

It is with great sadness that we are officially ending our thru hike. After getting back to hiking after taking a couple days of rest in Mount Shasta, we continued to make our way through Northern California. We knew there were some fires south of us and we expected that we were going to have to skip around them. What we weren’t expecting was for all of California to catch fire, the entire west coast to be covered in smoke and all national forests to close, which is exactly what happened. It was an incredibly difficult decision to make but for our own safety and the safety of others we decided we needed to end our hike. This year has been crazy and unpredictable - we’re both sad and disappointed. With that being said, we’re incredibly grateful to have been able to hike as much of the PCT as we did. We also couldn’t have done it without the support from family and we both feel incredibly lucky to have such amazing people in our lives. We are hopeful that one day things will be less chaotic and we can come back and finish what’s left of our hike. Until then we’ll have to find a new way to occupy our time and navigate this crazy world we’re living in.
