  • I've been sent the BIQU B1 3D Printer to take a look at so in this video I Unbox, build and test the machine, and ultimately run a 30 hour print using some very nice Gold PLA filament also sent to me by Enotepad. The printer seems like great value for money and is currently around £200 or $250.
    You can purchase the BIQU B1 Printer here:
    www.banggood.com/custlink/mKG...
    The filament is available here

    BLACK: amzn.to/3l4uGig
    Merlin Firmware Update
    To complete the firmware upgrade I copied the firmware.bin file to the root directory of an SD card and inserted it to the rear SD card slot, then powered up the machine and waited for the update to complete. File available here: github.com/bigtreetech/BIQU-B1
    Screen Firmware Update:
    To complete the screen firmware update I copied the following files to the root directory of an SD:
    TFT35 (directory)
    BIGTREE_TFT35_V3.0_E3.26.x.bin
    config.ini
    Insert the card into the front SD card slot, then powered up the machine and waited for the update to complete. Files available here: github.com/bigtreetech/BIGTRE...

    Well @Matt Denton , this unboxing was far more interesting to watch than most other i've ever seen. What you did was to take us through the boring stuff in a fast way and then *actually* test the printer features in a way that makes it interesting and relevant for seasoned engineers like myself as well as upcoming makers. Well done m8.

    Finally got this to work. It was my ignorance about Github that caused the problem. Once I downloaded the .zip folders to my PC, I was able to copy the correct .bin file for Marlin and the folders and files for the screen. Then when I put the SD card in the back slot and powered it up, it updated the firmware. Then put the SD card in the front slot and powered it up and it updated the screen. 2 .bmp files got error messages. Don't know what, if any, problems this created. Let me know if you need more detail. I'm a total newb with quite a bit of computer background, but not github or 3d printers. It seems like it should have been easier.

    Hi! How different is this printer to the current no. 1 printer of 2020 the Crealty Ender 3 Pro? Because the Ender 3 regularly can be found on offer for around 150 GBP. Is this version better in some sense? What else are we getting for that extra 50 bucks? Also BTW Matt how do you feel abound SLA printers? Too messy for you? That is what I am thinking myself currently. Well anyhow there are some amazing cheap SLA printers coming onto the market now. If you can hack SLA. Just thought it was worth to mention here too. When the topic is about the quality of cheap 3d printers.

    • @MattDenton
      @MattDenton  Před 3 lety +1

      Good point. I've not had any experience with an Ender, and I see many of these printers are of similar build. From a quick look at the specifications the main differences are this for the BIQU B1:
      1) Larger build area 235x235x270 23% larger
      2) Dual screen modes the BIQU mode is a nice interface and is easier to navigate for a beginner and even as a seasoned pro I prefer it to the Marlin interface.
      3) Filament run out sensor ( although mine didn't work )

    • @MattDenton
      @MattDenton  Před 3 lety

      As for SLA.. not looked at it yet as I don't have a need for fine detail and the mess puts me off..

    • @MattDenton
      @MattDenton  Před 3 lety +1

      4) Fully enclosed power supply

    • @dreamcat4
      @dreamcat4 Před 3 lety

      @@MattDenton Thanks it does indeed seem that the BIQU B1 is slightly different in many details. When really paying attention. And is the better device. In terms of cost I believe it's not actually more expensive. After realizing that there are many versions of Ender 3 Pro, and the Ender 3 [whichever version] has been updated and are actually more expensive. Clearly the BIQU B1 is better than it's Ender 3 equivalent model. Therefore I very much hope BIQU keep making improvements and can earn a fair share of the 3d printer market. Wonder if you might be inclined to do a follow up video for parts upgrades. For those remaining places where it is still a bit rough around the edges.

      @@MattDenton Totally agree on shipping reason and they're also kit format to keep competitive price point down due to assembly costs in the factory. The Anet A8 is effectively a massive box of parts in a build it yourself hobbiest kit at sub £100. Brands like Creality (CR10/Ender) are partial builds so less assembly time at the factory to keep costs down but on the flip they have a shorter build time in the home. Then the big boys where it is fully assembled and that's where the bulk of their costs reside, but they're literally a turnkey solution and tend to be heavily QA'd and components hidden away from dust and roaming fingers
      Great impartial video BTW - everything's fixable and it seems all of your concerns raised are purely software based which is digital delivery so as soon as its patched its ready for you to receive.
