I'm not a military expert but I don't understand why most games have shotguns being the go-to weapon for engineer characters? Like, aren't engineers supposed to NOT be in the line-of-fire and kept their distance from enemies until they complete their jobs? If so, wouldn't sniper rifles be more appropriate? They have to keep their distance, after all, not getting in close to the enemy.
@@Willy2537 But they do get close to the enemy. Engineer characters are usually in the position of combat engineers, not laid back technicians or mechanics. Combat engineers lay down fighting positions, operate explosives, or clearing certain terrain for other team members. You have to up in the front, ahead of everyone else, if you are to do that.

I guess I just pictured the typical mechanic who are purely on the technical side of stuff and low on combat, but the real combat engineers probably get right up in the heat of battle among other soldiers as well. Still, why do combat engineers carry shotguns in general? You have to get up close to the enemy, yes, but that also exposed you to more risks and as an engineer, you're a valauble member of any squad. Wouldn't an assault rifle or SMG made more sense? Those things can pick off enemies from a respectable distance and a higher rate of fire than shotguns. After clearing the area, then the engineers can move in to do what they have to do. I can see a combat medic carrying a shotgun than a combat engineer, since medics aren't usually sent to engage the enemy directly, but rather trying to save injured soldiers under fire. They'll only engage enemies when absolutely necessary, which is when they got up close and personal, so shotguns would make sense for them.

I remember playing ME3 and noticing these moments when they’re flirting. Then when they were kissing in the main battery I dropped my jaw and was happy for them.
I just did full replay. Kept everybody alive as much as possible. Talked to everybody after every single mission, like a fucking chore. I only missed Tali, because she came later and forgot she was even there, and somehow always approached the engineers from the other side towards the end. So imagine my jawdrop when I went to visit Garrus before the final mission :p
I missed few of their first interactions and thought it was Dextro-comradery in my first playthrough. When I saw them making out I felt like first episode Jake Peralta: "Oh my god I am the worst detective, ever"
I dropped dead and started laughing when I saw it, I ran into Garrus to go talk to him, not see him Tali make every excuse under the sun trying to say she totally wasn’t getting ready to try and get laid by a Turian who loved calibrations
10 years for me and I'm still discovering! Like that batarian bartender who poisoned Shepard in ME2. I didn't even know we could spare him, and Miranda & Jacob actually had lines during that little side quest.

He got some interesting lines after that on the Normandy and elevates from that 2nd in command crap, to your soulmate. Builds character and turns Shepard into a real person and not that blank avatar he/she is, when you try to make everyone happy.
The bit with Garrus, Tali, and Shepherd all trying to help Liara feel better after Thessia really nails how these people are all more than just a suicide squad at this point.
As Femshep, Garrus is the _love_ of my life. As male Shepard, Tali is my beautiful Quarian queen. But I admit, in other playthrus their little romance really made me blush and giggle happily. 🥰D’awww. _Tali and Garrus sitting in a tree..._
4:31 that's my favourite thing about Garrus, he's certainly opinionated and when you first meet him he does come across as a hothead that's fed up with red tape and nuance. But when he does realise he's wrong he's man enough to admit he was wrong and apologise. He's so wholesome. I normally romance either Garrus or Tali when I do playthroughs but when I don't I totally fanboy over their pairing, they do make a cute couple.

I know this is already a comment from 4 years ago, but I can't help but reply. The phrase "keelah salai" is not just a way of saying goodbye. Admiral Raan uses it before starting Tali's trial, for example. Kal'Reegar also uses it to encourage Shepard before fighting the Geth colossus. And another example that occurs to me is when Shepard convinces the quarians to stop the attack on the Geth at the end of the Ranoch mission, at which point Shepard uses it as a hopeful phrase but not as a farewell

I was happy to know that garrus finds happiness with tali. However, garrus is awkward when it comes to romance and tali is awkward in everything else, so it’s funny to think of how it’d work out

I actually had a fun conversation with Tali as femshep, during the party in the citadel DLC. If you romance Garrus and keep the party relaxed, right before you take the picture you will find Tali drunk in the bathroom. She just has drunk dreams and thinks loudly. One of them involves Garrus asking Tali for a 3 Some with Shepard
This made me upset how I never actually noticed any of their romantic interactions before walking in on them in that last scene! Omg those 2 were so adorable!
BioWare was the team that developed Knights of the Old Republic. And they managed to take the beautiful themes and lore depth of Star Wars and create something brand new and not-yet-ruined by EA. Like a spiritual re-birth to Star Wars. Mass Effect is amazing.
Late to this with it being 5 years old, but apart from the scene of those two clearly up to something on the battery and the dialogue in the citadel dlc, all of these scenes still show up even if you romance tali, instead of being together, they still become best buds ❤️ and Garrus has his "I was there too" line when shep and tali flirt in the dreadnought

It would only make sense that liara is the Canon choice for a romance. This is because she's in all three games and appears to be looking for Shepherd in the new mass effect trailer. Though I can see Shepherd having a fling with a different Character in ME2 (though it's probably Miranda, since she brought Shepherd back to life).

@@emblemedfate4270Liara in my opinion it's the best romance in the game, Shepard is her first love and she saves him from the attack on Normandy at the beginning of the second part. I even read about BioWare's statements that Liara is the most canonical romance in the game, it is even confirmed by the fact that she is the only one who cannot die during the entire trilogy, and you can romance her as a female and male shepard. In the third part, she regrets that she was not with us in the second part, and the music that plays during the scenes with her in ME3 gives me shivers down my spine, I mean "I was lost without you" She plans to have children with Shepard and her last beautiful words in London "I'm all your Shepard" or the moment when the dying Shepard resembles her face causes me to tears. One of the best romances in video games.

As I mentioned, Liara is the most canonical romance in the game, she is the most important female companion, I will mention again that she cannot die during the whole trilogy and both a Shepard woman and a man can romance her, she plays the main role in the trailer for the new Mass Effect and she's saving Shepard. If it weren't for she, it wouldn't be him. I like Tali but Liara plays a more important role in Shepard's life. To be honest the walking in on them was a total shock to see; the hints of how well they fit together are in such clear view I feel like such a fool to never have seen it beforehand.
When i first heard the talk about Garrus admitting he was wrong about the Quarrians i was thinking "Wait... are they... flirting?" and sure enough that was the case. Tali and Garrus are my favourite squad members so to see them get together was pure positive energy. That's another reason why Ashley is my favourite ship because i find letting Garrus and Tali get together to be really cute. Although i think Garrus for Fem shep is the best for her, and Tali is a great one for male Shepard. There's just something about having Garrus and Tali get together that i find more satisfying then Shepards Romance.

This is why, in the end I see Liara as the canon romance. She literally has "no one to come back to." Best bro and girl get together, Jack has her students, James and Ashley get together, Miranda has her sister. Like all the major romances have something to care for.

It would only make sense that liara is the Canon choice for a romance. This is because she's in all three games and appears to be looking for Shepherd in the new mass effect trailer. Though I can see Shepherd having a fling with a different Character in ME2 (though it's probably Miranda, since she brought Shepherd back to life).

@@emblemedfate4270Liara in my opinion it's the best romance in the game, Shepard is her first love and she saves him from the attack on Normandy at the beginning of the second part. I even read about BioWare's statements that Liara is the most canonical romance in the game, it is even confirmed by the fact that she is the only one who cannot die during the entire trilogy, and you can romance her as a female and male shepard. In the third part, she regrets that she was not with us in the second part, and the music that plays during the scenes with her in ME3 gives me shivers down my spine, I mean "I was lost without you" She plans to have children with Shepard and her last beautiful words in London "I'm all your Shepard" or the moment when the dying Shepard resembles her face causes me to tears. One of the best romances in video games.

As I mentioned, Liara is the most canonical romance in the game, she is the most important female companion, I will mention again that she cannot die during the whole trilogy and both a Shepard woman and a man can romance her, she plays the main role in the trailer for the new Mass Effect and she's saving Shepard. If it weren't for she, it wouldn't be him. I like Tali but Liara plays a more important role in Shepard's life. When i first heard the talk about Garrus admitting he was wrong about the Quarrians i was thinking "Wait... are they... flirting?" and sure enough that was the case. Tali and Garrus are my favourite squad members so to see them get together was pure positive energy. That's another reason why Ashley is my favourite ship because i find letting Garrus and Tali get together to be really cute. Although i think Garrus for Fem shep is the best for her, and Tali is a great one for male Shepard. There's just something about having Garrus and Tali get together that i find more satisfying then Shepards Romance.
