The whale shark holds many records for size in the animal kingdom, most notably being by far the largest living NONMAMMALIAN vertebrate.

So...it reproduces by infecting humans with it's unique bacteria.....which begs the question, how did it even get started in the first place? This thing can't exist unless a human is infected by it, but to infect a human, a previous 835 specimen already has to exist.
Also, wouldn't throw this thing into an active volcano kinda work in neutralising it? I mean, sure it probably wouldn't kill it, but it's not like it's tentacles would be able to survive the lava, so at most it would end up in a "dormant" state unable to eat or do anything.

Well, they say that we've only discovered 5% which isn't entirely accurate. We have satellites which tell us approximately how deep certain areas of the ocean are along with sonar and other forms of figuring out the geography of the seafloor. Most of the ocean is bare with fish and basic life which is why we haven't "explored" all of it. The 5% we have looked at is what is of intrest to us and only a small percentage of stuff that interests researchers hasn't been found because it's just barely out of reach. Most of the ocean is just... well... ocean. There are species we haven't discovered yet as well but thats somewhat of a similar... but different topic.
