I’m glad you brought up security of generating a seed phrase. I heard someone say you should put your phone in airplane mode (essentially disabling WiFi) during seed phrase generation. It makes sense that if your phone already has malware on it, air gapping would not help if the malware physically resides on the phone - if it is only resident in the phone’s memory, shutting down, waiting, and restarting ‘should’ clear it.
I practice safe browsing, keep the OS up to date, screen any app I install (Apple is better than Google in screening apps they allow in the App Store), periodically check all apps installed to ensure nothing snuck in, run a VPN, prohibit app tracking, restrict sharing, and am mindful of any unusual phone behavior - battery use, data use, physical phone storage, etc.
    Am I missing anything obvious?

Excellent video! What's interesting is that I do recall an interview with some of the Tangem folks (forget who exactly). In that interview, he mentioned that seed phrases pose so many problems, which I believe is why Tangem originally went seedphrase-less. It's basically which of the following is the lesser of two evils:
    1) Lose all of your Tangem cards.
    2) Lose access to your seed phrase (or it gets stolen).

    • @cyberscrilla

      Thanks!
Tangem’s whole thing is that someone can steal your seed phrase.
My thing is that if your store you seed phrase properly and don’t share it online, you don’t have to worry about it being stolen.
For me, it’s more inconvenient to NOT have a seed phrase.
But I know how to manage my seed phrase. Most noobs don’t.

A seed phrase can be imported into nearly any wallet. So yes, you can easily recover your crypto.
Crypto isn’t stored on the wallet or in the app, it’s stored on the blockchain.
Thus if you have your seed phrase (the key to your wallet), you’re good.

    • @cyberscrilla

The only way you can set up a seed phrase now would be to factory reset your cards.
WARNING: if you have crypto on your current “seedless” Tangem wallet, you don’t want to do this as you’d lose all your crypto.
Best option would be to buy new Tangem cards, set up with a seed phrase, and transfer crypto from your current Tangem wallet to your new wallet.
Only once you’ve got all your crypto off your seedless Tangem wallet can you safely reset it.
Another reason why I like the seed phrase option over seedless.

Going with "Generate seed phrase" option will not give the possibility to create the pass phrase. and going with "import wallet" will not generate the 24 seed phrases for me. Currently, you can’t create a passphrase, you can only import an existing one.
But you can still generate a new 24 word seed phrase by tapping “generate seed phrase”.
That said, once the option to create a passphrase is released (in a simple app update) you will likely be able to add a passphrase to your existing 24 word phrase.

I have a query about importing a seed phrase. Given your vocal opinion on Ledger at the moment with their essential ability to backdoor the Ledger Wallets and acquire a persons seed phrase, Importing my Ledger Seed phrase into a Tangem wallet would essentially mean that both of those hardware devices would have the same seed phrase assigned to them, would it not? Hot wallets store your seed/private key in the software. Tangem stores your private key on the card (offline).
The app only generates it, it’s not stored on the app or your phone.
“The wallet’s software selects 12 or 24 random words from a wordlist containing 2048 words based on the BIP39 seed phrase standard.
The software converts the chosen string of words into a binary seed, which it uses to generate a set of private keys and public address pairings.
The private keys are then uploaded and stored on the Tangem cards.”

While that may be true, my point still stands.
The cards are tech - which will EVENTUALLY fail. Or a fire could destroy them.

I just don’t feel comfortable holding massive amounts on a card I don’t have the seed phrase for

I don’t think people consider the vulnerability of the seed phrase enough.
Most will store it on paper which can be destroyed, lost, or smeared/damaged.
Even if you use a metal plate it can still be lost. You could have multiple seed plates but now you’ve just increased the chance of someone discovering them.
Because all anyone needs to do is see your seed phrase for you to loose everything. That would cause a lot of stress (for me at least). It could happen whenever because you are always vulnerable to that weakness.
I understand that not having access to the seed phrase makes recovery impossible. But it also makes stealing the crypto with the seed phrase also impossible.
Now you just need to protect your Tangem cards which is no different than protecting your metal seed plate. I think seedless is better because few people will use three seed plates for redundancy and if they did it only increases the chance someone can steal your crypto when they see your phrase.
I think the compromise is having the seed phrase plus a phrase only you know but this is currently only available via import not creation on Tangem (if I understood you correctly).
    Is my logic wrong?

If you aren’t responsible enough to safely guard your seed phrase, you should not be in crypto. Seedless method is insane. If anything happens to your cards, your money is gone.

My logic: You’re relying on tech vs a solid piece of metal.
Tech fails. Metal lasts many lifetimes. For me, I will always go the seed phrase route.
If stored properly and not left out in the open, the fear of someone finding your seed phrase is eliminated.
You’re correct, Tangem only allows importing a hidden wallet currently.

Good video! But the datum you give at 7:05 is wrong, it is possible to create two wallets with three cards, you have to reset the first backup card and then use it as primary or secondary of the second backup.

      @cyberscrilla  Před 7 dny

Yes, you can technically create an unlimited number of wallets using just two cards (via the seed phrase method). But you can only manage one at a time with only two cards.
I did not explain that though.

I'd suggest using a dedicated phone for this purpose. You could factory reset your old iPhone or pick up an inexpensive Android device.

All your comments are still above so I’m not sure what you’re talking about..
Also, whoever told you that Tangem’s seed phrase isn’t compatible with other wallets is lying.
Seed phrases aren’t specific to a wallet brand. Most wallets use BIP39 standard:
      Ledger
      Metamask
      Trezor
      Tangem
      Onekey
      ELLIPAL
      Keystone
      Safepal
      Etc
      It’s common knowledge
Doesn’t mean all wallets will support the same crypto though
