Of course, the whole topic of the merged families is only discussed during the first season of the show. By the latter seasons, it's as though Mike and Carol had always been parents to all six of the kids. There's even a late-era episode where Carol makes a comment about Greg when he was really young, as though she had been there. The only indicator that remained of the show's origins was the theme song.

It's fun when you compare the seasons while watching. In the first year, the parents have a slight "JFK" accent in their manner of speech. A little more sophisticated than later seasons. I recall Mike pronouncing the name Peter in such a fancy way, LOL.

@@alexanderpytko5394 Yes. Now, Florence Henderson apparently picked her criticisms carefully and she only bothered Sherwood when something really irked her In aninterview in her late 70s she recalled that one time, one of the Brady kids was bringing a friend home after school to study, and the writer didn't give the child any dialogue for the scene where she arrives at the Bradys' home. Florence thought that was ridiculous, and phoned Sherwood right then and explained the situation, even said "A kid comes over, they're going to say 'Hello, Mrs. Brady', not just nod silently ... I'll even pay for it myself if you want". Clearly this was the studio being cheap so they didn't have to pay the kid (an unpaid walk on part vs. a paid "Under Five" appearance in an episode) or give screen credit. What a business, LOL.

"Alice" was the Chief Operative, whom they obviously had clones of. This conspiracy is the only way to explain so many people disappearing...not to mention the pets. And what about those mysterious neighbors "The Dittmeyers"? I think Sam the butcher was more like Sam "The Cleaner" when assignments got messy. The Grand Canyon and Hawaii were secret missions. Greg, or should I say Johnny Bravo's music was clearly part of the MKUltra program. And "Cousin Oliver"...? Wake up people. The truth is out there.

This show showed some very poignant stories. Many families started after one of the original spouses passed away or there was a divorce. These were difficult situations for kids to deal with and for this show to face this and show kids that they weren't alone and that things can get better was very important for kids to see. Back then shows showed messages that were not agendas made up by social justice warriors nor were they forced into every show, movie, or even commercial. TV today is just 💩💩!

I believe that this original exterior Brady home (wherever it was photographed) was a place that was used in other Paramount productions, for whenever they needed an establishing shot for a pretty spa or a psychiatric hospital or a nice house; I know for sure I've seen this building on other sitcoms like Laverne & Shirley, The Andy Griffith Show, The Odd Couple, maybe Happy Days too.
The Brady house we all know was revamped inside to resemble the sets from the show--- they did it a few years ago on HGTV. Big nostalgia event for the surviving members of the sitcom. The house was recently sold, if I'm not mistaken. Now, to me, the interior (sets) of the house, particularly the main floor living room and den and dining room ... that looks like it was designed by an architect: the field stone, the art, the stairs, the high ceiling. Of course, we all joke about one bathroom for six children, and no toilet. I do agree that the exterior footage of Carol and Mike's house looks commonplace.

So Mike and his first family lived in a different one story house with Alice, he designed the cool house to live with Carol and the girls, and yet he still only made two kids’ bedrooms and one kids’ bathroom. Of course it’s a TV show, so the kids’ shared rooms had everything to do with filming and not real life. The Brady house was better than any set on TV to this day. But if Mike was really a successful architect, he would have thought to include a spare guest room, a sewing room for Carol comparable to Mike’s den, a sauna… And the writers seem to have made a mistake when Bobby puts the picture away because Carol is “moving in.” That makes no sense, but maybe they hadn’t conceived of the cool house yet in the pilot. Unrelated to that, Mrs. Brady must have had brown eyes, because Peter.

Pilot episodes have to be taken with a grain of salt. This episode was filmed in October 1968, almost a full year before regular production began. Tweaks are almost always made after a series sells. Even in this pilot there are inconsistencies. The house shown is clearly a sleek one-story midcentury modern house. Yet when Mike and Carol go back to pick up the boys, Carol says that Marcia, Jan, and Cindy are "waiting downstairs." Downstairs where, the basement?
In the episode where the boys and girls fight over the clubhouse, Peter mentions that Mike's talk with them before he ever proposed to Carol was "three months ago." Hardly time to design and build a house for nine people.
What they should have done was re-edit the pilot episode and substitute establishing shots of the Brady house we all know. It wouldn't have been difficult or expensive, and would resolve confusion. Yes, the interior sets are different, but they're not horribly far off from the "real" thing.

I know it was for drama, but Mike Brady should have made more bathrooms. Like one for the boys and one for the girls.
