How Winston Churchill Started WW2

  • Many have been fed a false narrative about how the Second World War began. When did the World War become a World War? In my eyes, this was only one occasion. When Winston Churchill chose to breech Norwegian neutrality and both invade Norway himself as Lord of the Admiralty and also causing Germany to invade too to counter them. After this, the War, became a world war. Churchill himself said he wanted to quote 'Open up the war' and that was exactly what he did, he got just what he wanted. Why did Winston do it and how? Let's find out.

The enemy will always show their hand in their arrogance. Ironically, it was their incessant comparisons of Trump and Hitler-coupled with the fact that I knew they were lying about Trump-that caused me to see Hitler in a new light. Rather than tarnish Trump’s reputation, these comparisons ended up redeeming Hitler (somewhat) in my eyes, at least. Had they not lied so overtly and persistently about the man, I never would have reconsidered what WW2 was really about. But

At school we were taught in no uncertain terms that Neville Chamberlain was a coward. There was literally no nuance. My teachers literally taught us he was a manlet. No background information on him. No notion that he wanted peace or that Germany was willing to offer terms. No mention of Hitlers admiration for Britain just the sentiment that Chamberlain was crass for wanting to avoid conflict. I cannot condone mass genocide of Jews and Slavs. However it is becoming apparent to me that I have been taught a lot of half truths and lies.

The Mass extermination of Jews would never have been suggested in the peaceful sanity of a world of dialogue,, regardless of the issues the NSDAP, and others had with them! It took the insane chaos of war and the desperation of twisted minds to consider the Jews as no more important than the millions of innocents who had already died in this Churchillian manufactured adventure! Previous to Churchills war, the British and German Governments had worked hand in hand to resettle the entire Jewish population of the Reich in British controlled Palestine by way of the Anglo German Havare agreement. Google have changed their narrative on this slightly just lately, as they often do with historical facts that no longer appear convenient or palatable to them, though interestingly it is still there to see on Google for anyone who chooses to look! It is a very overlooked question therefore as to just how many Jews would have actually perished if Churchill had not prosecuted this wholly avoidable bloodbath in the way that he so obviously did?

Just as all other wars, WW2 was complex. It had multiple ‘aggressors.’ Hitler always had a hatred for Slavs, Jews, and Romani. Churchill’s campaigns always resulted in massive bloodshed. The IJA committed many atrocities in China. Stalin subjugated nearly every Eastern European Nation brutally.

@@ZoomerHistorian I can imagine! It is difficult to be disabused of delusions of heroism. It is a painful pill for those of us in America, as well. We have been relentlessly force-fed a narrative concerning the events of WW2 that makes it extremely difficult to pry the scales off of the eyes of our countrymen. It doesn't help that the merest hint of skepticism regarding that narrative is treated like a disease and a moral horror. I am from Texas. We pride ourselves on courage, integrity, and straight-shooting (both in the sense of dialogue and light arms). Yet even we are unwilling to storm that beach and speak truthfully about the fraud and fratricide that was the second world war. It is easier, and far less painful, to parrot the aphorisms of victory than to acknowledge the blood on our hands. May God forgive us for what we did in ignorance, and for clinging to a comforting lie.

Things are only going to get worse for us, and for this unfortunate fact, we must take action. Our fight is not yet over, Europe and her people have not yet taken their final breaths, we either act now or we succumb to our enemies. The gifts, beauty, and possibilities of our homeland must first be earned before they are given to us. I found his comment funny at the time. This is before I looked into history for myself and realised how corrupt and lacking in virtue and morals men like Churchill were. Even later when playing games like Hearts of Iron I was surprised how much war actually was happening about everywhere without being related to Germany. The more you dig into this historical rabbit hole, the more dirt comes up. Just like with the climate religion, just a lot worse but somehow similiar nonetheless. And yet, dispite the nightmares that thoese wars have been, there are warmongers again trying to ignite another large scale war in Europe.

Churchill sued a gentleman for suggesting he was gay or bisexual. It was settled out of court. Being gay or bisexual is a common outcome for males who are brought up in boarding schools. None of the above, of course, is of concern regarding Churchill's political career. After having read the book: "Roosevelts Weg zum Krieg 1933-1939" by Dirk Bavendamm and "Das erste Opfer des Krieges ist die Wahrheit: Wie Roosevelt den Zweiten Weltkrieg plante" by Edgar Dahl, I have learned decisive details about that part of history.
Apparently, F.D. Roosevelt had affected European politics and diplomacy quite heavily in the advent of WWII. While Chamberlain was trying to prevent war and agree on reasonable terms with Germany, FDR sabotaged this prospect on actual peace and ensured that preparation for war was the only option left.
These facts have been cleansed from the established narrative for obvious reasons ever since.

Thanks for raising the question but isn;t it more complicated? Hitler had ambitions to attack Russia chiefly for the oil beyond Stalingrad in the Caucasus and he hoped Britain and France wouldnt intervene. Churchill was anxious to ensure Hitler would have to fight on two fronts and to deny him that oil, because once Hitler had the Caucasus oil fields he would control Russia and be close enough to Britain's source of oil in Persia to take that too. In hind sight you can say had Chamberlain waited, then when would have been the time to open a war on two fronts, or to threaten to do so? Tactically what Churchill did looked like a series of bloody blunders, but looked at strategically he was forcing Hitler to extend himself in the West in 1939 and it paid off in Hitlers defeat on the eastern front. Had Churchill prevaricated Hitler could have launched an attack on Russia in the spring of 1940 and reached the Caucasus before the winter and knocked Stalin out. I think all churchills efforts were to distract Hitler in the West and so weaken and delay his drive for Russias oil, in the end it was a power play about oil and iron. i.e the matterials to make war,

    • @DavidSmith-fs5qj
      @DavidSmith-fs5qj Před 3 měsíci +2

Thats all very well, but considering Churchill proposed bombing the Russian oil fields ag Baku to deal the Soviet Union a devastating blow, it renders your point meaningless. We should have staid out of the war, let Hitler and Stalin fight it out. Stalin was hoping for the western powers to become bogged down in a conflict like WW1, he would then have mopped up Northern Europe. He didn’t count on Germany conquering Europe in a few weeks. Whoever emerged victorious from such a war, would not have been as strong as when it started.

One of the many ironies of WW2 is that Hitler really wanted an agreement with the UK, and wanted a free hand on the continent in exchange for not messing with the British Empire that he admired. But let's just admit he had broken many promises, and many treaties by surprise up to that point. Plus it has always been the external policy of England to prevent one power of dominating Europe, as it then makes them vulnerable.
I easily believe Germany invaded Norway to prevent the British from doing so first as they needed the ore, but war was on. Yes, that made it worse, but I find it quite simplistic to put all the blame on Churchill for turning a "local" war into a world war! Germany invaded Belgium, the Netherlands and France soon after, so the "phony war" was coming to an end regardless.
Yet was it worth it for the UK? Many of their top brass wanted peace as they could foresee that win or lose against Germany, they would lose the Empire. And that's what happened. Plus communism overran Eastern Europe. Churchill will always be a controversial character, that's for sure.

Peaceful (or at the very least localized) resolution could have been achieved until 2 September, with Mussolini's effort to have an international conference for a mediation of the conflict, idea which the Germans didn't refused and were interested in, to the point that they were ok to consider stopping their armies advance (even if they obviously tried to temporize since the invasion was starting good), and having an armistice (which would in any case, have been time saved for Poland, even if the negotiations failed).
But the British government, with French government aligning, imposed a condition to have such negotiations in the first place, this condition was that the Germans had to pull back all their troops from Poland (they just could have accepted the negotiations for giving the Poles some time and then refusing any treaty with Germany, if saving Poland was really the motive), knowingly that Germans had no obligations to do so and would refuse because an armistice, by the international rights, concerning troops movement, is that both sides have to stay in a status-quo, meaning not advancing, not pulling back, even from unfavorable position, just stay in place, which again, in any case wherever the negotiations would be successful or not, it would have been precious time gained for the Poles.
Source come from French diplomatic records : "Documents diplomatiques français 1932-1939. 2e série, 1936-1939. 19, 26 août-3 septembre 1939 / Ministère des relations exterieures, Commission de publication des documents relatifs aux origines de la guerre 1939-1945" i don't remember the exact pages but it is between the 400-500's pages
    Link: gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bd6t5327053v/f457.item
I don't know about translated versions but since this is various gathered documents and not a novel, google trad should be enough.
There is also this little page which quickly talks about this Italian mediation for peace, even if it accuse them of "lack of conviction" : lhistoireenrafale.lunion.fr/2020/09/01/2-septembre-1939-la-mediation-italienne-manque-de-conviction/
So in the end, the fact that the invasion of Poland became WW2 was on the simple will of Western Democracies, and obviously yes that doesn't excuse any crimes that could have occurred during this war, but most of them couldn't have happened in the first place if there wasn't this escalation, especially since Germany didn't even wanted to occupy all of Poland first, so all of Europe lol

Peculiar that WS would want to kick-start a war his country wasn't ready to fight yet though.

Not really. Churchill knew there wasn't any way for Germany to actually invade them. They were in a good enough position to simply wait the Germans out while the USSR continued to build up. The only way Germany could win is if the UK signed a peace deal in 1940. Otherwise they would only get weaker as the Allies got stronger, and Churchill knew that.
