“Childless widow of a nation/ You cry like guns across the water” has to be one of the best opening lines to a song ever written. “Halls of Sarah” is a perfect example of how to turn primal feminist anger into refined art. Neko Case is as strong and stoic as the mystic heroines she sings of. I hear strength, truth and wisdom in her words. She breeds nature into her songs, weeds them, waters them, feeds them, creates the muse out of tooth and bone and then shatters expectations.
