- One of the most famous and charismatic driver/car Combos ever coming from Croatia, Dejan Kopajtic and his Yugo 16v little Monster evolved through over a decade are unfortunately stopping all racing activities, starting on 2021. Mr. Kopajtic has announced his retirement from Motorsports and has put the screaming FIAT engined machine for sale.
Powered by the 1.6L Naturally Aspirated engine taken from the FIAT Bravo, here with 220Hp/9.000Rpm, the diminutive hatchback benefits from its ow weight of 725Kg to become a devastantingly quick Pocket Rocket. With all this power transferred to the front wheels through a 6 Speed Sadev sequential Gearbox, it has won countless races and achieved a great number of Class Records through the years. And on the video you can see it on one of the very last appearances the duo will ever make, at Skradin Hillclimb where it posted a tremendously impressive performance. with a place among the 10 Fastest Touring Cars present at the event overall.
We can only hope someone worthy picks up this unique machine and continues its illustrious history in deserving fashion...

Love these kind of cars, affordable grass roots racers that are based upon ingenuity and effort, not starting with some 100,000 euro sports car. Long live the X1/9, the 500, the 33, and all the other beautiful little fast cars.

Thank you for this video to remember what kind of awesome this duo was and i can't express how lucky and glad i am to witness the sheer speed and spectacle they brought over years.Hardly there will ever be crazier and more unique Yugo than this one and i'd personally rather like to see this car resting in racing museum rather than beeing crashed in a race because it's a true legend of croatian motorsport and this is a car and driver combo hillclimb racing will surely miss.

OUT OF MY YUGO!!!
My first rally car was a Yugo. Lancia engine 1,3 lt. with 306 degrees camshaft, Uno Turbo brakes, Osrav suspension, short Alquati steering rack, short gearbox, weight lower than 700 kg.
Since then I have driven in rallies several other cars, all of them with much higher power.
But nothing has been more agile and more fun to drive than the Yugo. I really miss it.
That thing is absolutely glued to the road!
BEST THING ABOUT THIS CAR IS IT HAS SEQUENTIAL QEARBOX

Back in the late 80's my friends and I made up a fictional Yugo performance model that we dubbed the "Yugo Otis GT Turbo". I'm glad to see that someone else had the same Idea! Although clearly somewhere in the development phase the Turbo was dropped in favor of a N/A engine. 😎

Thing is pretty sweet. Corners really flat and has pretty much no body roll. Its cool how you can see the velocity stacks from the ITB's through the grille. I would assume other than the drivetrain the other parts are one-off fab. Not like there is a known tuner or vendor for 'Yugo performance parts.'

It is a car between fiat 127 and fiat uno,most parts can be fitted on him (engines,brakes etcc) only that this is now prohibited in Serbia,but before that it was possible to produce own pocket rocket with a little expencies,and also it is still good base for a race car.

I thought this little monster was going to have a 1.8 liter inline 4 turbo.
It had a 1.8 before, but Naturally Aspirated. Switched later back to 1. 6 to be more competitive
@@bura280 The reason why he switched to 1.6 is because 1.8 exploded.
@@hillclimbracingfan5821 maybe but with 1.8 he was with 2.0 cars, which on most tracks he couldn't beat
@@bura280 For 2.0 class a 2 litre engine would be better choice.
@@hillclimbracingfan5821 yep, but 1.6 was i think a way better option for him. 2.0 would be very expensive to get the yugo done properly. Knowing him, he would not race it in 2.0 without it being (almost) perfect.
