one problem is that Jamaicans are anxiously expecting the next SAFP or Shericka or Veronica to come along immediately. Take the pressure off young runners or they will fail to progress.

I just think sometimes jamaicans act like brazilians in football giving unnecessary pressure to emerging stars simply because they have had greats before and want all to rush their development to fill the greats void. Tina and Tia have many more years to develop into stars lets give them the time to develop and be greats as long they stay injury free

Blessings from NYC. I believe in the great Mr Francis. After watching the twins running at home I realized Coach has them on a leash, because I'd also saw the international 60m heat where one of the twins ran from behind to place 2nd. And in doing so ran past Natasha Morrison. So my take away is this, the twins know what they are capable of by training with some of the same competitors, and they're doing a fantastic job at underperforming while working on technique and public pressure. He's teaching them to be patient, preserving their talent to peak and strike at the right moment. Which means trials will be exciting, because Jamaica will be sending it's best to compete internationally. One love!

Good video, Greg. And good insights too, Davian.
Truthfully, they have to learn to sprint biomechanical and strategically properly to become elite seniors. They have a lot of glaring issues that don't manifest as obviously when competing against other U20 athletes, but show up in the senior ranks. So, as you both rightly point out, this will be a process.
And as you also rightfully said, it's a matter of if they have the understanding, maturity, patience, and support to go through that whole process properly and play the long game to success.
Franno knows how to develop global medal-winning female sprinters for sure. But it's one thing to get a young athlete who was good but not great as a junior to keep believing in the process when they lose, because you can point to little improvements in biomechanics, place, execution, and time.
But how do you get someone who has already run very fast and won a lot from a young age to believe when their times and places are regressing or are so far removed from what they and others are used to?
Most great junior athletes will never have similar senior success for many reasons. A lot of things have to align in the right way and at the right time for that to happen.
Are the critical pieces in place now or being positioned for these young ladies to become great seniors? Time will tell.
Regardless, I hope people don't discard them too soon (or they quit on themselves prematurely), as they are still young women trying to find their way and make a mark in a tough sport from a country with an overabundance of talent and success.
      I wish them the best.
Please keep dropping your gems of wisdom. It's needed. 🙏🏾

  • @JETOFF

I believe that the strategy is to develop and change their forms. They have the natural speed, but their form is not of a world class 10.6 standards, so correcting their forms, they need to run slower before they can run faster again. This may take a two year process, but how are they coping with this?
They also need to slim down just slightly, and this will come with strength training, which includes weight training and get the muscles. I believe their time will come. Let the big 3 reign until they step aside, then they will be ready.

Although we see Tina doing well at the early part of the season, I don't think we should expect her to improve proportionately as the season progress. I think I prefer the pace of Tia at this point. In my view she is developing at my expected pace and will improve much better as they mature in the sport. What I am actually looking for from them this season is to improve their PB, if I can get that, I am satisfied.

I can. Most of the time we look at the best outcome, without take in consideration the possibility that stuff happens. There is no guarantee that they will overcome the psychological pressure they are facing right now, but because the coach is Stephen Francis, we will give them the benefit. They are running overweight now and until they shed the unwanted pounds anything can happen. Each time an athlete steps on the track they are taking a risk. As I said, this phase of their development is most risky and requires careful adjustments every single time.

One of the few exceptions I know of is Veronica Campbell-Brown and even though she though she never won a World Junior or Youth title Allyson Felix but she was exceptional at the Junior level winning silver at the age of 18 in the Olympics in 2004. Nonlinear Dynamics: Athletic Analytics
    _________________________________________
The culprit for Tina Clayton's--the Jamaican arch-ace--speed lag is below mid-torso: her hip-flexion factor¹ of 0.59566 yield a start-reaction time of 0.13142 seconds and by extension turnovers of circa 2.59 steps per meter² when she ran at the speed of 11.44 seconds in the 100-meter sprint. (Clayton's coverage of the
100-meter race at 2.59 steps per meter is indicative of her peaking in momentum or expended effort at 61 meters).³ Comparably, when she ran at a speed of 10.95 seconds, her turnovers in steps per meter⁴ were circa 2.37 with the same hip-flexion factor. The 0.22 (i.e., 2.59 - 2.37) variance is suggestive of her being inefficient in effort expended and laboring in momentum when she ran at 11.44 seconds with 2.59 steps per meter. Her healthful weight should be at 124 pounds⁴ within a relevant band of plus and minus ten pounds, given her height of 63 inches. With the same hip-flexion factor of 0.59566 and a yield of 2.59 steps per meter, Clayton can attain her best score of 10.95 seconds, if she sheds 12.50 pounds.⁶ Clayton has a 99.77% likelihood of scaling at 10.88 (21.73) seconds in the 100- (200-) meter meter sprint, per choice she competes in at least four (4) major 100-meter sprints.⁷ In a gist, Clayton is in a 75% state of physio-mental or athletic readiness.⁸ This is not even a state of satisficing median or status quo. A retrenchment strategy in performance preparedness is warranted.

Until their body is developed, losing streaks are the least. Running in High School you are always prone to injuries, so as they transition full time to pro allow them to find the best place for their bodies. Shelly-Ann explained that her strength training was not easy, for she did not want to become muscular, so they focused on her legs. The Claytons may be going through the transitioning as needed for the outcome they best desire. I do not see this period of defeats as nothing more than mental and physical strengthening. Let Sir Steven work.

This is the mostttttt😮hardest part of a master teacher's evaluation when considering taking on their students, especially the ones who have always been kicking ass & taking names all their young sprinting days, & now when they start to approach 16-17 & 18 graduate to the grown folk class & get their ass handed to them a few times😮, most time one never ever hears from them again after that freshman year when they find out that all their mighty👉🐀 mouse adolescent victories from elementary to the end of high school was just that, & now the real deal is apon them as they move into man & woman-hood, & now all the winning that only took jive time work-outs to do & still one could beat most in their class, has now got to be seriously put on the operation table & counsel of the master teacher & he has to do a very honest evaluation of his future pupils should he so choose to select them as a student, cause in truth he has to properly evaluate them, their attitudes egos & just plain behavior of how they react with him & how they respect just who the ♨️☄️hell🔥he is & how valuable he could be to their future in the sport that they have grown to love, this is where the rubber meets the road baby, & this is why most miss the opportunity of a lifetime, they are coming in strongly into their body & all those sexual needs that are becoming more misplaced along with that body change into woman-hood & man-hood, attitudes change & with that tons of times that stinking🤧thinking arrogant ass attitude moves in, 👉"CANT NOBODY TELL ME WHAT TO DO" thang, & of course as the "Master" teacher picks up on those thangs he has to now be very very honest with himself even though it hurts bad, sometimes one has to reject the student because of their attitude & their basic background that they came from in the first place, sometimes a coach has to work with their students to detect all the character flaws early, cause most time they will be on their best behavior at first, but trial & error of working together it want be long before the real attitudes start to come out & when it does that's when the coach has to make his final decision to continue his very hard labor of love or cut ✂️ the strings before it gets to deep, cause he or she is going to loose the student anyway, it's hard but it's fair to the coach in the long run, you take a very talented student on & you know they have certain characteristics that will intrude with your work in bringing them along, the higher insight if listened to will tell you to cut it ✂️ before it starts; more later if interested 👌. Amen 🙏 !!!

Provided they are humble and stay away from the hype and social media, they will succeed.

I don't think much is wrong with the twins. I think they were following instructions to run this race. Those girls run way under 12 seconds consistently, and then they show up at a meet and clock 13.10 for 100m. Anyone who believe that something is wrong after they both ran very quick, 60m races two months ago, sump wrong with yuh, and not the twins. Those times indicate that they were not trying, not to mention that they both looked very ordinary, like they were just going through the motion. I think their coach wants them to be conservative and not get carried away with the hype and pressure that is on them.
