- Craft and Lore builds handmade full grain leather wallets from natural veg tan. Here we show the aging process that develops with natural veg tan leather. Natural Veg is very near and dear to our hearts here at Craft and Lore. "Natural" refers to it not having any color added, and "Vegetable Tan" means it was tanned with bark tannin (wiki). It is essentially the "classic" barebones leather, tanned in the old world method of using environmentally friendly bark extracts in the traditional manner as opposed to chemical tanning which is quickly done and highly regulated by the EPA due to the toxicity of the leftover chemicals that must then be disposed of. Veg tan takes longer to create, and is famous for the extraordinary "patina" that will develop.

Do you still need to put a top coat on the leather at the start? Seems counter productive but In new to the craft so not sure

Dooney & Bourke is being whack with that free shipping limit and I don't want a coach wallet for him either. Then I remembered this video. Hahaha onward to look at the wallets!
Awesome video! I have one question- which leather is more likely to get that beautiful shiny patina, raindeer or cowhide? Both veg tanned. I am trying to make a decision since I would like to get my husband a wallet for his 40th birthday, and I would like it/him to age well :D

Do back leather dress shoes patina? I have pairs for years and they don't seem to look different.
They are painted black and given a protective finish
If they were natural finish with a patina they would have faded and scuffed years ago unless you treated them like kid gloves (pardon the pun)
Ok...after looking at the wallets, is there anyway you can create a wallet that is unique but familiar at the same time? Like have the front of the port wallet but also opens like the insider wallet? My bf isn't going to like any of the designs cuz you have to fold your cash before putting it into the wallet. ugh. Such a shame cuz i can tell the leather is quality. Onward with my search

We would suggest winning the lottery. but it seems everyone who wins the lottery hates their life. So the next best answer is to budget accordingly and make use of the coupons.

What oz are you using for wallets? 3oz
Are you treating it with anything before use (oil, wax) or leaving it as raw veg tan?
3-4 oz leathers mostly.

You can always clean the leather if you don’t want the patina
@@superjose96121 careful tho, some cleaners and oils/moisturizers will darken leather
I was with you until you threw in the bronze watch thing. I don't think there are too many that view bronze watches in the same category as the other items. They are sort of trendy and over the top. Of course, everyone has their own tastes and opinions.
