Apologies for the delay! An unfortunate real life emergency happened in between playing this game and so I couldn't get this video out any sooner. That is mostly taken care of now and I'm excited to finally have this video out! I will say that I'm willing to make a part 2 of this video if there was way more references I missed since I know the presence of FFXI in FFXIV is massive. Feel free to comment down below or on the community post on any missed references!

these from what I remember atm:
      - Rhapsodies of Vana'diel which has Iroha as central character has 3 major chapter. At the end of chapter 2, she was sorta thrown into dimension vortex & coincidentally, the FF14 Iroha event started right after this. Can assume by the end of this event that Iroha made her way safely back to Vana'diel again, in which final chapter resumed. In essence, the FF14 event kinda actually part of FF11's Rhapsodies storyline. (and yes, I was playing both games right at the moment those contents released)
      - Island Sanctuary featured in recent 6.2 are huge nod to FF11's Mog Island content, which introduced during Adoulin expansion. The beach area where player 1st arrived, almost exact replica of mog island area itself.
      - Trust system also introduced on FF11 before making its way to FF14.
      - Back to FF11's mog island again, need to rank up in order to unlock other plots, one of such thing is Monster rearing, sorta equivalent to pasture, though difference is that where in mog island can evolve your monsters, FF14 only requires catching & feeding them. Petting feature exist on both, but... while it has major purpose for evolving them, in FF14 they're just mere gimmick & serves no purpose. btw, need to max rank them up in FF11 as part of requirement to obtain one of rarest trust npc.
      - FF11 has content called Dynamis, which is sorta what-ifs of another alternate timeline where humanity are totally obliterated, in which turns out to be phantom world in which Diabolos being the culprit. And Dynamis itself became major plot on 6.0 later half, serves as similar vein. Back to FF11, these content just got their savage version called dynamis divergence which is requirement to upgrade your relics
      - Think your video forgot to mention another cait sith, which is actually part of 3.0 alliance raid storyline & has near-exact model, & even involves its arch-nemesis: diabolos itself. Some of alliance raid designs also took huge note from content which cait sith involves, one of which is Walk of Echoes where the cait siths resides (yes, the "-s" are intentional since there are more of em).
      - "Hades" serves as final story boss, on FF11's Adoulin expansion & FF14 5.0's.
      - Geomancer, job that exist in FF11 per Adoulin expansion, are the far east counterpart of FF14 Astrologian job, which does introduced during its job story quest in 4.0.
      - There's still way more FF11 assets reused in FF14, at least I didn't notice any from Adoulin's being referenced. One of NM which is a giant shark, became mount obtained from ocean fishing achievement, one of examples.
these are all I can think of atm, might gonna make another post when I remember more.

@@mikoto7693 ah... coincidentally, started mine around abyssea era, right after 14's 1.0 ended.
Also, if haven't know, they've been periodically having free login campaign, which occured every 3 months with durations around 2 weeks worth of play, great way of catching up contents. They've been doing this since midway of Adoulin expansion's main story releases. The game also became solo-friendly nearly all of it due to trust system introduced around rhapsodies expansion, & currently has more than 100 trusts with each has unique traits suitable to certain content situations. One can now easily gearing up for preparations on endgame stuff via record of eminence (sorta the combined achievement/challenge log from ff14) & ambuscade. I usually take semi hiatus from 14 whenever 11's free login campaign occurs, which btw should be happening this november if i'm not mistaken.

So far as missed enemies, one I noticed was actually Ravana's inspiration.
Back in FFXI's Voidwatch content, possibly slightly before that, they introduced a mob type called Naraka.
Naraka were large 4-armed Armored Zombies with multiple stances which augmented their attack patterns.
Many of Ravana's animations are copied from Narakas, however he does have additional moves and such.

Bruh, seeing and hearing all the old FFXI music and scenes had me in as much tears as Shadowbringers and Endwalker. Remembering all the times I've had and spent in XI is such a massive nostalgia trip. I loved every time the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel event came back to XIV. The first time it came around, joining the FATE to battle snippers on the coast of Costa del Sol brought back soooo many memories of Valkurm Dunes! The part of the RoV storyline in that quest was so right on the money about how much time we all spent on those beaches, fighting those crabs!

FFXI is my favorite Final Fantasy, so when you were going to do XI references in XIV, i knew that this was going to be a long video, because XIV literally pulls the most directly from XI. if you bothered to dig or go into detail you could probably do a part 2 and i'd definitely look forward to that.

Man, the music, the references, even seeing Allakhazam... You hit my FFXI nostalgia bone so hard sir, and you definitely didn't even include everything you could have. For example: the majority of the weird undersea mobs encountered in the first portion of the 5.2 dungeon Amnesis Anyder are from the same part of FFXI as the Yovra (UFO) mob Ovni/Jailer of Love. Xzomits (Squids), Phuabos (Sharks), I think Hpemdes (Dolphins) all show up.
Other mobs that I can think of that you didn't include:
    - Flans (Not an XI original obviously but XIV uses the XI model as a base)
    - Soulflayers (Mindflayers/squidhead caster dudes)
    - Wamoura/Wamouracampa (Giant moths and their beetle larva)
    - Manticores (They're called something else in XIV but I can't remember what, I just know I've seen their models used)
    - Sandworms (a big boss monster in XI but usually just a regular mob in XIV)
    - Rockfins (Like Sandworms, a boss-mob turned regular mob, these are the drill face sharks near the volcano in the Ruby Sea)
    - Zilant Dragons (They're boss monsters, in XIV Tioman, the final boss of Sohm Al uses this model)
    - Also all the Lamiae/Merrows and Medusa from the Allagan stuff

Hey good job on the coverage, you got a huge chunk of them. A few that you missed off the top of my head:
Nashmeira. A name shared by the Empress of Aht Urghan and the Dancer job mentor. Given how many references to Aht Urghan there are in Thavnair, it'd make sense that a job from the area references it as well.
Hilda and Lilisette are both human/elf hybrids that are a job that came out in their appropriate expansion.
Seekers of Adoulin and A Realm Reborn came out within a month of each other in 2013 and as a result they both feature what were, at the time, new mobs that share models and is unclear which game they were developed for. Matamatas, Snapweeds, and Craklaws being some of the standout examples.
Umbrils from Adoulin also recently started being reused as well. They're only in the Tower of Zot at the moment but are everywhere in undead areas in Adoulin. The generic demon from Zvahl Baileys recently got used Troia. They had only appeared in Maiden's Rhapsody previously which you did a pretty good job covering.
My personal favorite reference are the Beastmasters in Save the Queen use. They use 1handed axe + shield which is exactly what non-dual wielding BSTs use in XI. Run Wild is an interruptible cast that buffs the pet and does the exact same thing in XI. Reward is a heal for pets in XI, but changes the beast's behavior in XIV. During Lyon's duels the effect that has to be dispelled at the beginning is "Enaero" which is a spell that can be applied when a FFXI BST is BST/RDM

I was a long time FFXI player and recently started playing FFXIV, enjoyed the video. Here's a couple of other references I don't think you mentioned.
The FFXIV races each have a tribe that uses the same naming schemes as their FFXI counterpart: the Hellsguard, Duskwight, Keepers of the Moon for Mithra, Plainsfolk, and Midlanders. Some characters even have the same first or last names, though that's probably just a coincidence of using the same name generator.
In every FFXIV expansion, you can get a Sightseeing Log from one of the members of the Ironheart family. In Vesper Bay, one of the Ironhearts you meet tells you his grandpapa mapped out all of Eorzea before the calamity. The sightseeing logs are FFXI reference, where each map the Warrior of the Crystal obtains was drawn by an explorer named Gwynham Ironheart and his daughter Enid. During the quest An Explorer's Footsteps, you'll have to travel to hidden monuments all over Vana'diel which contain messages and drawings from them.
Cardians can be found FFXIV, they're near the end of Bardam's Mettle.
FFXIV and FFXI seem to use the same day/calendar system and lunar cycles, but they renamed Lightsday and Darksday to Umbralday and Astralday.
In Heavensward, heretic elezen turn themselves into dragons by drinking their blood. In Rise of the Zilart's DRG questline, this was what happened to Cyranuce and the other corrupt dragoons.
After defeating Odin in FFXI, he offers you a reward. If you choose "Release thy Knight", he initially mocks you and leaves. If you repeat the quest "Unyielding Resolve" and defeat Odin 12 more times, choosing "Release thy Knight" each time, he'll accept and make a pact with you to be the new rider. FFXIV's Odin takes the appearance of whichever player defeated him last, allowing you to defeat them and take their place.

The Maiden's Rhapsody was the first crossover event I participated in when I started playing XIV; I had just missed the XV crossover, when everyone was rolling around in their Regalias. Since XIV was the first MMO I ever played, all the ways XI influenced it were mostly lost on me, but I appreciate them now. Fast forward to May of this year, I'm trying to talk my ex into playing the free trial, but he is an Xbox fanboy who doesn't have a PC and won't get a PS5. He mentions that he played XI on the Xbox and was a male Elvaan Paladin with white hair. I stared at him for a second before informing him that I am a female Elezen with white hair in XIV, and Paladin is my favorite tank job. Talk about a weird coincidence.

Final Fantasy Legend was the first appearance of the Four Lords in the franchise. They serve as tower floor guards. The major bosses of the game's main story.
While technically part of the SaGa series, Final Fantasy Legend was given the Final Fantasy name for it to ride the franchise's success on its release in the US since SaGa was unknown here at the time.

Probley not the best spot to enter in from considering how ungodly difficult it still is (even with some of the QoL changes that have been added since I stopped playing and only recently picked up again out of sheer curioisty).

I just meant if you go back and do the class/job story in FFXI then FFXIV for Dancer you'll see it was pretty linked between the two as well as a lot of it's moveset and animations remained the same.
That does remind me that Yoshi-P did say that Dancer was supposed to get throwing weapons for Dancer and not just chakrams as a design and I guess he/developers stepped back on that because they are mostly bladed chakrams and later in ShadowBringer's they got renamed from Throwing Weapons to Dancer's Arms. Just something I remembered off the top of my head tis all.

I admire my seniors who played FF11 they are some of the most friendly old school MMO gamers I've met in FF14. When FF11 came out I always wanted to play it but I was so young and online gaming on consoles was such a new and odd thing I couldn't figure it out being so young, not to mention I had no computer and the idea of paying a subscription to play a game to my parents seemed like a scam to them at the time :< BUT I've watched videos on its history and I know a lot of the characters. I remember doing the FF11 special event the first time it came out for FF14 and getting the special samurai armor. I love that the game is still going and so many still enjoy it. (I tried playing it once but it was a lot to take in) I hope that as a FF14 player our community and game will be as cherished as our older sister MMO. 💙

Most of the crossovers between XI and XIV can be found across the entire FF franxhise.

    • @meakimon
      @meakimon Před rokem +2

Considering that FFXIV was supposed to be a sequel of sorts to FFXI (hence so many base similarities), and how the devs tried to entice the players to go play FFXIV 1.0, I wouldnt be surprised.
However, FFXIV is it's own beast with it's own spirit now. ^^ Which is why I like to see the two as separate games. Cameos are fine, since FFXIV takes from all the mainline games.
I throw a small internal riot every time my wow-turned-ffxiv playing friend tries to downplay ffxi, saying they should just make it canon that it's the shard that got turned into the void (she gets annoyed since she's one of the few officers in the FC that didn't play, and she has to listen to them tell stories XD). She really wants ffxi to die and be a footnote inside ffxiv. It's hilarious.

FFXI was my first MMO and even if I played it for "just" 5 Years (2004-2009) i can remember more details like songs, locations, enemies, gear and so on than from 14. especially the music is something that will probably last forever in my head ^^". I can tell you wich song belongs to wich area or situation. and even if 14 has also an incredibly good soundtrack, it's not the same.
And there is one things that i'll be always be grateful for: My friends! It's been 18 years since i met an lot of ppl in 11 and guess what? most of them are still part of my life! Even if those ppl don't play 14 (anymore) they're still visiting our real life gatherings and are part of the group (we still have the same Guild/Linkshell that we founded in 2004). Of course, I've met a lot of nice ppl in 14 too and some of them also became good friends but not as much as it was in 11.
For some reason, the longer the game lasts, the more impersonal the community (ingame) gets. Maybe it is because 11 "forced" you to stick together as you could not play the game solo? As for me: I always loved to help new players (old players too ^^) and communication within the guild is very important in my opinion. But a lot of new ppl who joined our guild simply don't communicate. not even hi or goodbye. And if you ask if someone needs help with something or if someone wanna do dailies for example, there is often no response. Also no interests in events. They're doing their stuff, whats basically ok but it leads to a dead end at some point. what is a guild for when you don't do stuff together anymore? Maybe this is just a problem from the german community (of our server) but I know a lot of FCs that have similar problems. some of them don't exist anymore or just have 2-6 members left.
The way all this has changed makes me feel sad :(

if you want to get really technical, the first appearance of the four lords in final fantasy would be the international release of SaGa, titled "The Final Fantasy Legend." In that, the four lords effectively fill the role of the four fiends, being the generals of the main villain whom you must defeat to progress the tower.
In addition, a few sets of gear are directly lifted from final fantasy XI. The Wootz sets for Tank and Maiming classes are both ripped straight from FFXI.
