- Justin Furstenfeld shares a deeply personal song he wrote called HRSA - delving into some of his battles with mental health. This unsettling Blue October song still bares its raw emotion to this day. HRSA is from the band’s second album, Consent to Treatment (2000). #BlueOctober #livemusic #mentalhealth
This show took place on March 9th at a sold out show at the Riviera Theater in Chicago.
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is a federal agency that conducts programs and initiatives to support behavioral health in the United States. “Consent to Treatment” is an actual phrase used in the medical field to denote the agreement a person makes to receive medical treatment or care. EVERYONE that checks in has rights as a patient to receive considerate and respectful care.
Song lyrics are below…
I hope you all have a chance to experience this band perform these songs live, whether it’s your first time, 15th, 50th or more!

LYRICS to HRSA
Oh
Admitted at 22
just to get over you
my belly aches blue
Lorizapam flu?
I'm down for the count
Always three times a day
Sometimes four, sometimes four
A bee stings straight through the arm
A high swing I ride upon
My eyes can't quite focus on
The nurse with my Lucky Charms
And while the 2-step was just a laugh
My boundaries were broke in half
It's a good thing to know
as you walk into group for the show
to group for the show
Knock knock on the window pane
my smoke break, the hour rang
my quiet roommate sleeps the same
and woke up when dinner came
the mans no more than 40 old
arrived scared 2 days ago
a family of earth and gold but still none the less alone
learned quick, knew what to say
then three angels walked my way
in Spanish tongue they knelt to pray
Said "God keep him safe from screaming voices"
They became my family
out stretch their hands around my head
you know boy I can feel you breathing
they actually knelt down and prayed for me
they actually knelt down and prayed for me
oh……
Don't you dare put me on H.R.S.A
does self abuse extend your hospital stay
well I think I'll lie a bit
lord I won't cry over anything or anything at all
over anything at all, over anything at all
no
I won't cry over anything
I won't cry over anything, no
I won't cry over anything
Over anything at all
Over anything at all
My favorite Blue October song is HRSA. Unfortunately, they didn't play it at the 1st Houston show on 3/1/24. Glad they played at least for part of the tour. Can't wait for the summer tour.
Thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed watching this.😊
Thanks for watching! It’s fun to hear these older songs 💙
CLASSIC.
I was there!!! Amazing show!!
💙 vintage ..love!
Praying to get this on Thursday!
Wish they played it in Charlotte!
Luvlu. ......U
They didn’t have the full light show for HRSA. Instead, Justin asked everyone to flash their own lights in support. I turned to the crowd at 2:33 ✨
Awesome video. Thank you so much. Seen them over 40 times live and have yet to hear this song live.
Thank you for watching! Songs like this tell a a story, and it’s always welcome in the setlist.💙
Thanks for another great video. This Chicago concert was my first Blue October concert. So great seeing them live, and it was a pleasure meeting you!
So great to meet you too! 💙 I’m sure we’ll meet again
Do you mind if I ask how early you arrived to get front row? I know each show is different but I'd like a rough idea for when I see them in Montreal. Or I imagine the front row are the people who purchased soundeck experience?
These have been ticketed seats actually! It’s nice because you can move about your evening more calmly, even enjoy a meal between Soundcheck and the show! For GA shows, it helps to buy the Soundcheck experience from
BlueOctober dot com, because they let those people into the venue first.
