0:53 here we can see Tomas as he reverses reality, humans can't realize his technique, but Tomas has ascended to a divine entity making him able to play 1 billion notes per frame
the most impressive part of this video is his left foot nailing the quarters and he's fucking all over the place with the rest of this limbs. Love this guy!!
I would love to know what goes through his head as he plays this stuff. There is no way you can "remember" parts this complex, I think he just sees patterns in the universe and his muscle memory is so advanced he just turns these patterns into music subconsciously. Whilst playing what is to my ears some of the most aggressive music man has ever created, I would wager he is actually in a mediative state, full of serenity on a higher plane of existence. He is without question on the greatest drummers who ever lived.
He seems like he's in flow state every time he plays. He's so in the zone he doesn't need to think hard about what he's doing, he just does it. Absolutele legend.
I think it's because he's just a really good drummer......it's really cringe how far you're reaching with what you put. 'Patterns in the universe' jesus christ.
Damn ... appreciate the skill needed to make your left foot go in a totally different pattern than your right one. While playing ghost notes on such an off-beat riff. While making it look so effortless. Wow This guys is a damn beast
He looks so relaxed and channels the 4/4 so effortlessly, that it's easy to think this music isn't as complicated as it is. Super heavy, gritty, funky, metal.
Don't you have to relax to play it in front of anyone else? otherwise it'll come out dead...I was told by Bernard Purdie (Steely Dan) practice slow and relaxed. :)
Tomas Haake and Chris Adler are the two best drummers in the world to me, one originated Djent and the other brought metal back so we can enjoy eargasms..
I don't know why, but as soon as the song starts at 00:03 and the description of the kit appears, it looked that it was describing some kind of cyborg. Which I think Tomas is. I laughed. Then I cried. Now I'm scratching my balls and joining the groove at 01:09 with my head to the left and right.
I never get bored watching Tomas play, his technique is amazing. He is up there with the all-time greats of drumming (Buddy Rich, Neal Peart) and has definitely continued the perfection for drums like what the previous drummers done for their era.
A proper drummer, using Hi hat foot and ghost strokes - real 4 way co-ordination. I teach so many Metal guys who just don't bother learning how to play the Hi Hat with the left foot. Tomas, you are the real deal! In the main theme he's playing in 7/8 but his Hi Hat foot is playing quarters straight through, sort of like what Vinnie Colaiuta does with Sting.
+DemiUrge Is it just me or do a lot of bad drummers like this guy. What you said a lot of people can do, even my year 10 students. He isn't playing a poly-rhythm like Mike mangini or danny carey. It's just doubles or triples. This guy probaly cant even count to four.
This video needs totally non-sequitur thought bubbles appearing over his head. "Huh, I'm hungry." "I wonder what's for dinner..." "Shit that reminds me, I need to stop at the store." "What did I need again?" "Eggs..." "Milk..." "Zucchini..." "Did I leave the stove on?" "...nope" "Zucchini. That's a funny word."
dude, calm the fuck down, you are a pathetic human being if the first thing you do when you can't think of a point is search someone channel to abuse their videos, i made that vid about 2 years ago and only uploaded it in feb, try watching one of the more recent ones or checking out my solo stuff, you really are desperate and pathetic
I'm always impressed by how disconnected his limbs are from each other. Even of I would be able to play his Songs that good (I learned some, but it's always a blast to see him nail what I'm struggling to do so easy), I'm always almost falling off my chair
The thing I think is so great about Haake is most great metal drummers are so locked in, ahead of the beat, pushing, precise to a fault. And that’s amazing. But he swings and grooves even when playing in 23/16 with his right foot, 12/16 with his left, and 4/4 with his hands. How can a human do that!?
@@exoticfailure4617 I believe they have a few things that they consider when they choose what to play live. They pay attention to what the fans respond to, and they also probably consider what's playable live. "I" is not playable live. The Demon's Name is Surveillance is probably not playable live... They also may feel like the recorded song won't sound good live.
It fits the style of music and fits the track in context. I've played hundreds of pieces where I've had to hit a chunk of wood and I can say that his bass drum sounds nothing like hitting a piece of wood.
Tomas is somehow able to play these amazing drum parts all while looking like he's in a long line at the bank
+Tim Balch I laughed so hard.
+Tim Balch and as though he has to use the bathroom. He keeps squinting...
+Tim Balch I think he has to do it to focus on all the offbeats with his feet, but none the less I laughed really hard at this.
lol
Gene Hoglan? :D
This guy puts the shuggah into Meshuggah
The song is called "Marrow" for those of you wondering
Underrated as hell if you ask me.
Both "Swarm" and "Marrow" happen to be the best songs in *Koloss* yet get to be the most underappreciated of all.
@@i_want_my_shuggah100% Swarm and Marrow are my favourite songs too
Where the hell's the rest of it
His groove is so sick

That's what you called a sneaky ghost note.
I noticed it first
Such a tricky set of ghost notes there. Very creative!
00:34 There it is again... or before?
he hit it so fast it sounded like a computer generated breakcore snare
amazing how he's able to keep the tempo with his left foot no matter how complex the song is

In interview he says he zones out completely and thinks about fishing

can someone make a 205 hours long version?!
He's *in the pocket*. Relaxed. Swinging. Amazing. Peace.
He's so calm and peaceful, while i go bat-shit crazy practicing the song.

***** how long have you been playing drums?
***** you're still not old, though :)
i think tomas is the real game changer in metal drumming in the last 25 years...he's the groovest and most personal metal drummer, a great musician
Tomas Haake and Chris Adler are the two best drummers in the world to me, one originated Djent and the other brought metal back so we can enjoy eargasms..
I agree, Mario in Gojira is really damn good too.
And Matt Gartska from Animals As Leaders. I love his playing style and his fills are so ... so good!
Metal never left

I like the part when he played the drums
He is a sick man. Sick left foot!
Marrow! Probably my favourite song in the album, it blew me away instantly...

This man is in such a daze. His soul just knows what to do. You are the man, Tomas!!

Yeah hes great
left foot hihat work is like the foundation of your timekeeping, atleast that's what I'm becoming aware of
Right hand playing cymbals. Right leg playing main beats. Left hand playing main beat + ghost notes. Left leg playing constant hi hat.. ARGHHHHH
i can totally understand this feelings, bro! :D
Haha it's like each one of his limbs has a mind of its own lol he's crazy
DemiUrge _ lol is that not normal

+DemiUrge A real metal drummer that is way better then him is probaly best pick Chris adler. Now he can do the real stuff.
Just a magical experience to watch him play. 25 years in and I’m still in awe. 🙌🙏❤️
I get disappointed everytime this video fades down. I want it to continue :(
snucke85 what’s the song title? Thanks
Mike James marrow
Spud Magnum thanks so much. That song kicks ass and I love the outro.
Mike James I was in your place for like 2 months tryna find this song haha. So i understand ur pain haha
1:48 Mother of god, what?!
tasty!
A life changer = Tomas Haake
He make it look so easy, damn, this is some of my favorites drum grooves from them.
The snare at 54 seconds sounds like a computer. Amazing.
everytime ive watched this i always think the video buffered at that moment lol
You can just tell how amazing he is based on how relaxed and controlled he is when he plays
Absolutely astonishing...
You see the midi port on Tomas's skull? Wicked.
I learned maths from Haake. I work at NASA now.
XDDD
The entire album is amazing, but I love blasting this one. Marrow!!!!!
I've been listening to this band for 20 years and Tomas still laying it down-you don't need to be 300bpm and triggered to be heavy
The kicks are triggered. From what I remember, the sample is the attack of a 20" kick and release of a 26".
the most amazing drummer hands down!!!
I bet he can leave his left foot at home while he's out shopping.
Lol :)
He’s unbelievable drummer
Best comment I've ever seen in my life

Tomas Haake would make trash can lids sound good tbh
Awesome! Just plain out awesome!
Tomas is one of the best ever! Song is titled Marrow off latest album Koloss..seen them live 3 times and simply amazing-
I love the placement of the second locked hi-hat just underneath the ride
Tomas is my everything
I still cant believe that Tomas lost to Joey Jordison on Loudwire's best metal drummer poll...
jj would pretty much automatically win such contests just cos sk has so many more fans
Yeah that was more of a popularity contest rather than one based on skill.
BEAST of a drummer!!!
thanks bro!
Legend says a metronome tried to play drums , it had to use Tomas to keep timing ....
The World Clock is based on his time
Me gusta como toca la bata este tipo! I love it! \m/
I'm not a musician or anything but the more I pay attention, I find it more impressive.
Master at work!

+Baran Yildiz a fill. The fill transition is way more intense at 1:23.

only tomas can get away with having only 2 toms and 147 cybals
Unless I'm mistaken I can see 3 toms there.
I use only one tom (Floor), two when I'm playing more melodic stuff like Classical rock tunes.
OK so, this AAX Manta Ray stack with the china below it sounds absolutely mean. Love it. I wonder what china cymbal is underneath it.
we need the long version!!!!!!
