This is the match up we have all been waiting for! Both of these brands have made huge performance claims in power, torque, run tim, and cut quality - TODAY WE PUT THOSE CLAIMS TO THE TEST :)
The two mowers that I test and review in this video are the new Milwaukee M18 18v Fuel 21" Self-Propelled Dual Battery Mower ( model Model 2823-22) and the EGO 56v 10Ah POWER+ 21" Select Cut XP mower with Touch Drive self propelled technology ( model LM2156SP)
    LM2156SP.
I will cover the power of each of these mowers, the cut quality, and all the features of both brands. Don't buy a battery powered lawn mower OR A GAS unit, without watching this video!!!
Both of these mowers are GREAT, but only one can be the champ!!!!

One thing to think about when considering the price. The two Milwaukee batteries and dual charger included retail for about $600 on their own. They can be used in any other Milwaukee m18 tool. I think they should offer a tool only option for the mower, but technically the batteries are making up 50% of the price.

@@richardvacanti9428 If you only own a drill or a multi-tool you probably wouldn’t want a heavy battery attached to it. But they also make leaf-blowers, pole saws, light towers, hedge trimmers etc. All of which come in a tool-only option and could make use of a large battery or two. Most people who are thinking about buying a Milwaukee mower probably already own a bunch of other cordless Milwaukee tools besides drills.

One is the opening on the grass catcher is very small. Fine for loading the bag with grass clippings, it does not unload nearly as fast as the EGO grass catcher.

I'm on the milwaukee platform and I still would take my old ego,or my current toro batt over this milwaukee mower. It's 1000 bucks versus my 500 toro, thats not a small thing to ignore, plus toro makes mowers mostly which means they will have the parts for said mowers in every major city. Ego is realy is really good, I just wanted a change. bc my old ego wasn't self prop.

I really appreciate all of these videos you have made. Especially the power tests. That is one of the most important things for me. My grass grows ridiculously fast and stays damp for some reason, even when it hasn't rained in a long time. My grass this spring is growing about 3/4" a day, so it gets deep and thick before I can mow it again, the mowers have to plow thru it. My gas powered Toro Recycler bogs down if I try to mulch, I have to use the side discharge, and even with that I have to go slow. I've been looking at every review of electric mowers I can find for the last couple of weeks. Ego seems to win in the power category every time. I've only seen two other mowers match it, this Milwaukee and the $2000 60v Toro Commercial unit. I'm not spending $2000 on a push mower, even though it does an outstanding job. I've finally decided to spring for the EGO XP with the 10AH battery, seems to be the best you can get for the price.
And that Milwaukee ad... That is just sad that they do that. Their advertising department needs to be replaced with some more honest people. I have also found another reviewer that keeps on going on about Ryobi, but it seems they almost work for Ryobi. They brag about how good they are, but they only demonstrate on pre-cut grass that is actually shorter than the mower is set for, so it actually cuts nothing... And always have Ryobi reps there for the testing also. Pretty sad how some try push a particular brand with fake demos.

I think the EGO mower used in Milwaukee's video was an older single blade mower. My EGO with single blade performs very similar to the Milwaukee video and doesn't like tall grass at all. But neither did my previous gas mower. The select cut mower looks to be on a new level.

I put a beating on my Ego mower and it hasn’t failed me yet. I’ve ram it through tall grass, wet grass, and tall fields. Folds away nice, and leaves an amazing cut. I’m sure Milwaukee will release better mowers in the future, but as of right now, it just can’t compete w Ego.

  • @Margalus
    @Margalus Pƙed 2 lety

Welp, got My EGO Select Cut XP and mowed for the first time today with it. The power of this thing literally destroys my gas powered 22" Toro Recycler. There are parts of my yard where the grass is thicker and deeper than others, in those spots I would have to slow to a crawl with the Toro and then have to stop and back up and go forward again every few feet sometimes because it would bog down, and that would be with the side discharge! You could hear this XP speed up and it just plowed right on thru that, I never slowed down and the mower never sounded like it was straining, and I was mulching all of the dead grass left laying by the Toro. It's simply amazing. I got about 80-90% of the lawn cut in 45 minutes before the battery died, then switched to the 5AH battery that came with my blower and finished. Used less than 20% of the 5AH battery. I am very pleased so far! I don't see myself ever going back to gas.
The only thing I miss is the Personal Pace System Toro uses for self propulsion. Nothing can beat that in my opinion

    • @Shaymon23
      @Shaymon23 Pƙed 2 lety

Wow we are in the same boat! I have the 22" Toro self propel. I miss that system but the EGO just rips through my grass like nothing. Whereas my TORO would bog down to where I had to raise it or lift the front up and mow twice. AND I also bought the top line EGO blower and LOVE it. Be warned, next year you will be using both batteries near 100%. Not a big issue but for those with just one battery, it would suck. I kept my batteries inside all winter as well so not sure the decline...

Particularly, in the front yard where I have a slope. I have the LM2101 mower. The blade is in the correct orientation. I am really beside myself. It looks terrible. Not much of a commercial for EGO. Can I add the dual blade to this mower? I really hate to have to buy a new mower already...

Hi Andrew, Still having fun with your comparison demos I see...i feel your pain about the push test though...we both need some "spring training"!
I recently got an EGO 21" Select Cut Mower with a 7.5AH battery. My grass isn't really growing so I haven't given it a real test yet but I've mowed my yard twice with the mower. It cuts well with the mulching blade and chews up leaves very completely ( I can't wait for fall to really test it's leaf chomping capabilities ). My backyard is a bit sloped so I use the self propel feature to go up and roll back down to save battery. I mow on wheel setting 3 for now. Speaking of rolling, the wheel bearings roll really well compared to my old mower with just a bolt and plastic bushed wheels...a real treat. I attached the bag and cleaned up some leaves relatively easy ( except for the ones that were embedded in the lawn ). I found it very easy to attach, detach and dump the bag...nice feature. I haven't tried the high lift blade or the "better" runtime blade yet. I love the way it folds up for storage. The battery charges as advertised. My yard takes 2 charges to mow so I just plug in the battery and do some other tasks like, vacuum the pool, rake some sticks, work on the new ( to us 21 year old ) trailer, etc., until the battery is recharged and away I go again. Even with the recharge it seems to take about the same time as the old ICE mower as I'm going faster uphill under it's own steam. I'm loving that feature! It's a pretty pricy mower up here in Canada but with the price of gas these days I think it will pay off. In the meantime, I'm loving the no fumes, low noise, and ease of operation AND no trips to the fricken gas station! Oh yeah...I haven't spilt a single electron that I know of...lol! So far so good with the new EGO mower Andrew. Cheers, John ;)

    1. Self propelled wheels lock up when pulling back
    2. Not enough suction causing big mow hawks in the lawn where the tire wasđŸ€Ź
    3. Not enough power to mulch thick wet grass
In my opinion my Milwaukee is better
    1. More power
    2.More vacuum

    5. Steel deck is superior

The single battery lasts an hour depending on the resistance based on grass height, longer grass puts a strain on the battery, therefore wearing down battery time. Just an easy to use mower.

Talking to a couple of dealers selling the Ego mowers, I asked about the metal decks, they both said the professional garden maintenance guys like the plastic decks better, being lighter and they don't rust, they like the electric gear for use where noise is a problem.
Batteries, the Ego battery has more Watt/hours than the pair of Milwaukee batteries, running a pair of 18volt must mean the mower is running on 36v, so the Milwaukee batteries is 432Wh against the 520Wh of the Ego, 52v X 10Ah, that Ego pack is 14s4p, 14 cells in series with a nominal voltage of 3.7v per cell is 51.8volts and 4 parallel packs to give 10 Amp hours, on a full charge that battery will be 58.8v so Ego just call it a 56v battery
I think I trust Ego batteries over other companies that still build a brick battery, heat kills batteries and the thermal management Ego use works to keep those batteries cool, the 5Ah battery I have for the 21" mower and multitool is 5 years old and still holds a good charge.

It'd be nice if some features from the Milwaukee were on the EGO, like the highlift blade speed, the rear discharge chute direction, and the dual battery option. I know EGO have the lm2142(dual battery) and feel that they need to use that mower as their base model and refine it into the ultimate battery mower. Dual battery (runtime), dual blade(cut quality), 1500+watt motor with 9+ftlbtorque (power), a power button for the blades(3500+rpm, 3000rpm idle).........
Just some constructive feedback from a contractor that needs performance more than runtime, but both are equally important 😉

This video in particular, shows your unbiased opinion which most channels don’t do in order to keep current and future sponsors happy. As you stated in your video, cut quality should be considered table stakes(especially at these prices) and the EGO was superior to the Milwaukee. What I don’t understand is how people are willing to spend $1K for a lawnmower just to use the same batteries across the board yet would ignore the most critical aspect: Cut Quality. Also, people don’t seem realize that both mowers come with batteries so you aren’t really being inconvenienced by being on different platforms. In my opinion, while being on the same platform is great, one’s objective should be to obtain the best tool/equipment for the job!!

My thoughts on the EGO after owning it for a year. If I went back, I would NOT get the self propel. It is very awkward to press and hurts after a while and just not worth the battery loss. Mine also engages by itself at least 2 times while I mow. Very annoying. The mower will leave mohawks even if I overlap my lanes. Powerwise, It obliterates my Toro Gas mower. With my 5HP gas mower I often times had to raise the deck and mow twice. With the EGO, this thing will cut tall thick grass with minimal clippings left over and will not bog down. Battery life is MEH. I had to buy the blower so I have an extra battery and on year 2, I need the 10 a/h batter and the 6 from the blower to mow my small yard. House is on less than 1/2 acre. Takes 45min-1 hour to mow. I bought my mom the twin blade Ryobi and prefer that over the EGO and it is much cheaper. Comes with 2 6a/h batteries that both go in the mower and you just flip the key to swap batteries. For 250-300 less, Ryobi wins for me. Only issue with Ryobi's is the blade will hit the plastic deck if you hit a big tree root. Oh and the EGO blower- AMAZING!!! The power is just crazy. I even use it to blow light snow :)

Then it moved on to what he didnt like about the Milwaukee and what he loved about the ego. Thats just straight up biased.

Milwaukee failed by copying the wrong Honda model (HRN216VKA) and not using the best part the micro cut dual blade. For a ~$1000 mower they should have cloned the HRX217HYA with a Nexite deck, cruise control lever, micro cut dual blade and electric motor. I'll wait for the Gen 2 to see if they follow my suggestions, will probably msrp ~$1500.

At the end of the day ego’s battery’s are better engineered do to the arc design. They hold peak power throughout usage till they die. Milwaukees battery’s will start losing peak performance while in operation.
Plus ego’s platform has a better blower, better weed eater, better edger. And cheaper price compared to Milwaukee. Ego is an outdoor power equipment company their focus is on OPE. Milwaukee is an tool company focusing on contractors. they even had to lie in their demonstration using an ego lm2135 instead of lm2156 an a Honda hrx217 with a flooded carb. I have both these mowers they have never done that. Good try Milwaukee trying to pull a fast one.

Was super pumped about the Milwaukee lawn mower until I found out it was a single blade unit what the hell were they thinking? Still having to use the old tried and true reliable Honda hrx 217 just too many cool features to give it up. Ego is far superior in their handle and ergonomics again Milwaukee totally dropped the ball and that completely lame handle and control design. I'll give It 2 to 3 years in Milwaukee will have a complete no redesign with a dual blade lawn mower. Probably called the pro + model LOL.

I bought and used both of these mowers. It’s not really a fair comparison since the Milwaukee is made for smaller areas for landscaping pros. I kept the Milwaukee and the options on it are unbeatable. Why did ego not include variable speed control. The ego takes longer to get full speed at start up, it’s really annoying on areas where you are going back and forth quickly. Having said all that, ego is it easier to move due to the bearings they are using. I’ve never had bad cuts like this video with the Milwaukee. The one huge negative for me with the Milwaukee is the blade they include. The ego is lot better at lift, or using your mower as a vacuum on your lawn. The Milwaukee blade sucks at lift, it is very particular with deck height. I’ve never had this issue with my old gas mowers. Again this isn’t really a fair comparison since the Milwaukee isn’t really made for residential use so high lift was maybe not a concern for them.

Milwaukee wasn't meant for residential use? WTF đŸ€Ł LMAO bro what lawns do you think commercial lawn services mow the most? Yup "Residential" đŸ€Ł the part that is not fair is blades. Change the ego and Milwaukee to the same blade / qty / type. Also deck height is not the same as blade height remember the Milwaukee blade is recessed up higher than the ego meaning lifting the grass into the bag especially with that second lift blade on the ego is going to out perform. I have the ego for almost 2 years now and it's awesome. Only gripe I have is the front end of the ego is HUGE between the cutting blade and the front end. That means you can't get close to a wall to make the cut it's always like 6-8"+ . I like the smooth underbelly of the Milwaukee I hate all the grass gets stuck inside the cavities on the ego. I also wished the ego was able to drop just 1 more level down. You can't really drive on side walk or drive way and suck everything up into the bag I think the Milwaukee does this better especially with the upgraded blades. No idea wtf Milwaukee was thinking about supplying that crappy blade. For me it's simple. If the Milwaukee was out 2 years ago when I was replacing my 6.5 Honda I would have bought the Milwaukee because I already had the Milwaukee string trimmer / leaf blower and the countless other Milwaukee tools I have. The ego battery just sits on the charger or used in the mower that's it. At least with the Milwaukee I could utilize those batteries for other projects with my other tools and use them on the blower / trimmer. That said I think alot of other people are in the same camp. If you already have other Milwaukee tools and or lawn equipment the choice is easy just buy better blades and you are all set. If you are not invested into Milwaukee the choice is easy just buy the ego you will be happy.

I LOVE the EGO product line. Using the EGO Power+ LM2100 model, I was experiencing the exact issue as this: czcams.com/video/FfvNdk1-tzk/video.html
My research shows that after a while, the lithium battery will no longer charge, related to its 'maximum allowable charges' counter maxed out, thereby a 'safety feature' to prevent old lithium battery usage dangers; this is what was known as the 'AMBER-LIGHT-OF DEATH'. So -- my LM2100 was out of warranty by that time -- expired, and I popped $250 for a replacement. The improved battery -- the same one the video shows -- runs great.
NOW, HERE IS THE KICKER: The next summer, I still had the old battery. For fun and giggles, I then placed it on the charger, and IT THEN FULLY CHARGED... YAY! Now, I have two fully working batteries! I'm no rocket scientist with quantum physics knowledge, but my belief that there is a digital counter inside the battery that will count down to a you-cant-charge-me-anymore level. As long as the battery has even a minute amount of power in it, the counter will be maxed. My belief is that once the battery gets completely depleted of ANY power, then once it gets charged, the counter automatically resets a factory default counter to zero charges!

Also, my Toro was a mulcher but when I switched to the EGO, I witnessed what mulching really is. No comparison on how the mower minces the grass :) I am sure the dual blade has a lot to do with that though. I never owned a gas dual blade.
