  • Another CZcamsr posted a video about eight reasons why you shouldn't live in Manta.
Obviously, I have a different opinion.
Please note: The new Condo project I mention in the video is named incorrectly. My bad.
The proper name of the project is Grand Bay. Ryan Kelly from Ecuador Shores Realty can answer any questions you might have on this property.

I first arrived in Manta in 2012 for a short visit while waiting for a work visa to live in Colombia, needless to say, I never returned to Colombia. I met my now wife in Manta and we eventually bought land down the coast and built a house. Manta is a great place to live and I would not hesitate moving back there if our circumstances ever change.

As a 4 year resident of Manta, I agree with Don's observations regarding that critical video. I was surprised seeing it. My guess is that the poster was having a personal hardtime while on a brief stay here... and took it out on Manta. Don is much (thank you) more accurate.

If not for your videos I would not have come because I have seen the other person's videos and I have stopped watching the others now. I'm so glad you started your Q & A's. Thank you for the laughs ❤️😊. The people here are AWESOME. I was in Quito and now I'm in Manta

Well Don, I didn't see this person's video. Based solely on your reading of his reasoning, Manta shouldn't want him either. He sounds like the type of ungrateful person that you have spoken about earlier. Visit someone's home and then complain about how they live and just be a poor guest. I am glad to see you defending your new home. Keep up the good work

I have lived in George Town, Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands for the last 8 months. One of the most expensive places in the world to live. People call it a Caribbean Paradise, which it is. BUT there is a DUMP in the heart of George Town called Mount Trashmore. They are in the process of sealing it but it used to smell on occasion and catch fire on occasion. The govt would make warnings about staying indoors in parts of the city when it was on fire. Even here in paradise we have smells from time to time. It is also. Very hot here, but everyone still loves this place. Manta sounds wonderful to me and I hope to live there for a while someday.

    Hey Don,
Cudos for defending Manta. I live in Cleveland, and even though my homeboy feeds the stereotype we have lived with for decades, not all of the area around "The Land" is a toilet bowl. Geraldo bought a house in Shaker Heights after visiting in 2016. It has fabulously affordable high-end housing, social amenities, parks, etc. that many Americans are discovering is a good place to root, especially in an internet-driven economy (forget those $20k houses.). You can't live in a 5 bedroom home in New York for under $200K. Back to Manta. This young man has a limited view about what makes a place tick. It can't all be about "I get bored and annoyed because those people who are carving out a living are getting between me and the the night clubs and restaurants, or obstructing my postcard view of the ocean."He does not yet appreciate the struggle necessary to build and support future nice places to live with infrastructure, roads and culture, especially after a major earthquake. . He lives primarily in the present where "if it doesn't cut it right now while I'm looking, take a pass." So perhaps you could cut him some slack. Cleveland has shown glimmers since the days of burning rivers and fiscal default. And many have found a home and good life here. I'm sure as time passes, he'll realize he should have invested in Manta before it blossoms into an investor's paradise.

Don, thank you for this video! I have not been to Manta, but my gf has lived in Cuenca for 7 years or so, and has been there several times. I have seen Manta through her photos and videos, and have a pretty good idea of how it is there. No, it's not Miami Beach, it's not Key West, it's not a Southern California beach. But it's the largest city on the coast of Ecuador, has a usable beach for either sunbathing or swimming, depending on the winds at the time. I say winds, because winds cause not only higher waves, but also sand blowing around, sometimes a lot! I think all of your responses were pretty much spot on, except for when you agreed things are probably a bit overpriced there. Manta is a BEACH town! People go there to enjoy the ocean, the warmer/dryer climate than Quito or Cuenca, so naturally prices would be higher there! But other than that, you pretty much nailed things there!

I'm sure life in Manta is fine for many expats.. It's all about what an individual wishes out of life.. I'm more inclined to move back to Europe where I am originally from... Although, I have lived for decades in the U.S., I've never been able to connect well with the American way of life.. Nevertheless, I'm not complaining about my decision to move to the U.S.. As they say, it is what it is...
As for Manta, Ecuador.. Well, for me, I think I would rather live in Cuenca, Ecuador.. It has a cooler climate and the amenities of the city are far greater..

Don, as an Ecuadorian I truly appreciate your videos. You and Amelia & JP are pretty much the only ones I watch when I'm feeling homesick because you give pretty accurate information. As for the negative video guy, I know who you are referring to. Can't stand his negativity but most of all his cheapness annoys me. He apparently believes that everyone is out to rip him off and his mission in life seems to be scrimping and scrounging and saving a dime wherever he can. I mean, you get what you pay for. Also, in one of his videos a while back he talked some serious BS about Costa Rica (where I live now) and claimed that home invasions by robbers was commonplace here. That is a bald faced lie. That NEVER happens here. I don't know where he heard it, but he repeated it as if it were fact. He's never even been here. Those ridiculous assertions were enough to put him on my crap list.

Finding negatives or have a bad experience - that’s reasonable - but it’s bad taste to generalize - human nature has a bell curve - those at one end with the dark lenses simply see the dark

Salinas is more of a vacation party city than Manta. Busy on the weekends but dead during the week. I wouldn't live there.

Ecuadorian People are so friendly and the food are the best 👌. but for all those people trying to move to Ecuador 🇪🇨 it's better to scap Manta and Guayaquil and some areas of Quito because the crimes are high on those places.I heard a lot people are moving to Vilcabamba. around there .it looks bery nice.

Mr. 2nd Passport is a longhorn; a few good points with a lot of bull in between. Debunked: Manta as stinky, unsafe, bad beaches, traffic, construction, and excessive heat. True: Real estate cost, earthquake-prone.

@@DonShader The Earthquakes are probably the thing that worry me the most....the rest - the cost of real estate is extremely affordable FOR A CITY BEACH TOWN.......the other stuff - my point is, are you looking for a place to LIVE or a place to vacation? If you are looking for an awesome beach for a vacation, there appear to be many close by. If you are looking for a place to live, with a good health care, vet services, airport, convience goods and services, internet, Manta appears to be a good place for daily life. The places the youtuber who will not be named alluded to many not have traffic, (was really not bad), no industrial smell anywhere in the city, as well as having cheap real estate and expansive beaches, but if your phone breaks, you need to get get a flight somewhere, or you or your dog need medical care, you're kind of out of luck. Manta also makes it much easier to survive with no car. He didn't point any of that out.

People just want to complain or say "see me, see me." I've been to Guam and if you want to complain about something then go out into the jungle and look at the huge mountain of old, discarded vehicles that are left to rust. It is not just a few hundred it is an enormous amount rotting in the jungle. That is an assault on the environment, all those old engines with fuel, oil, coolant, batteries and such just polluting the pristine jungle. Why are those vehicles there? Because there is no mechanism in place to recycle them. Out of sight out of mind. There ya go, now you have another thing to be aware of and maybe even complain about.
