I'm Jamaican living in America for over 50 years. I visited Shashamane in Ethiopia in 2017. It was an amazing experience. The Ethiopians were so nice! Addis was so cosmopolitan. I was really surprised about the Italian influence on Ethiopia. There were so many Italian restaurants. The people there really loved and respected Jamaicans.
It’s so cool that you guys are promoting Jamaica. Many Africans don’t know that Jamaica is the one black country that keep fighting for the freedom of Africa. Rasta is a very small percentage of Jamaica. Most Jamaicans do not smoke marijuana. Jamaica is a heavily Christian country. A lot of these images of Jamaica is from pop culture marketing (money) and not accurate. It’s sad to see people really believe this. This makes me even more proud to be Jamaican as we are most well informed about other cultures, unlike other countries.

There are not many Rastas in Jamaica compared to the population. Not one person with dreadlocks lives in my community, so that is a completely false notion. Rastafari is a group of people in Jamaica that follows a particular belief system. Bob Marley was a rasta man, and a Jamaican, just like Usain Bolt, the fastest man in History, or Kamala Harris, the US vice President and Collin Powell, former US SECRETARY OF STATE ARE Jamaicans. Even Mike Tyson's father is Jamaican. How many of these people I mentioned here has locks? Only one. This is how Jamaica looks. Haile Selasi, in 1966, visited Jamaica and offered land in Sha Shamane for Jamaicans who wanted to live there. Rastafarians, because their belief system revered Rastafari, too k up the offer. This is why the Jamaicans you see in Ethiopia are Rastafari. Branding Jamaica as a Rastafari country with mostly Rastafari actually prejudices ninety odd percent of the population.

There are not many Rastas in Jamaica compared to the population. Not one person with dreadlocks lives in my community, so that is a completely false notion. Rastafari is a group of people in Jamaica that follows a particular belief system. Bob Marley was a rasta man, and a Jamaican, just like Usain Bolt, the fastest man in History, or Kamala Harris, the US vice President and Collin Powell, former US SECRETARY OF STATE ARE Jamaicans. Even Mike Tyson's father is Jamaican. How many of these people I mentioned here has locks? Only one. This is how Jamaica looks.
Haile Selasi, in 1966, visited Jamaica and offered land in Sha Shamane for Jamaicans who wanted to live there. Rastafarians, because their belief system revered Rastafari, too k up the offer. This is why the Jamaicans you see in Ethiopia are Rastafari. Branding Jamaica as a Rastafari country with mostly Rastafari actually prejudices ninety odd percent of the population.

You guys are funny. I was raised in Jamaica. only about 1 or 2 percent of the population embrace the rasta faith. I am a Christian but likes many aspect of their faith except they look to Hali Selassie as God. But they are great people who kept the African awareness very very strong. I notice you guys are asking the guys about Jamaican women. In Jamaica most men know that in Africa Ethiopia has some of the most beautiful women in the world. Its a known fact. Jamaica has beautiful women too just like many other places in Africa or the world.
