  • The Garmin ECHOMAP chartplotters have many GREAT features, some of which are a little hard to find. Let's take a look at 3 of these features hidden in the Fishing chart menus of the UHD and Ultra series chartplotters.

    Good content as usual, thanks buddy. You should look into getting that heading sensor for your boat. It was a game changer for me. Your maps will stop spinning with the Steady cast unit.

    Love your content and presentation. Just came home with a 28ft baby Grady-White CC I will be using for fishing maybe 30-40 miles offshore here in San Diego. Will mainly chase kelp patties. Have you done an Echomap VS GPSMAP comparison. Will probably go with GPSMAP if I plan to upgrade the boat and add radar. But mainly looking for fishing and charts and way points.

      Unfortunately I’ve never got my hands on a GsMap to do a comparison. Obviously those units are more capable for off shore navigation. Congrats on the new vessel! Tight lines

    Great content I’m interested to know why you suggest the heading line? When I’m waypoints & I pick a waypoint & select “Go to waypoint” the unit puts a pink line on the bow of my boat in the direction i should head to in order to arrive at the waypoint. In the past I’ve used a the heading line & like you say in video if you map orientation isn’t set up correctly the boat spins around at low speed making the map very confusing to follow. If you’re not 100% sure which direction is north it can make this very confusing. I mainly fish in the sea in Australia & where I’m located we have two gulfs which the tide can rip though when they start to flowing. Another factor to content with is the wind direction. Quite often when fishing we have wind against the tide & that heading line on front as boat is spinning around can make it really hard to get the boat right on the mark. Don’t get me wrong you have a great channel very interesting to follow with your tips. I wonder if a the steady cast sensor would help with accuracy in getting at precise anchoring accuracy on the spot.

      Yes a steady cast would help. I like a heading line to get me close to my waypoint without running over it. Most of my waypoints are less than 20’ deep

    It’s funny, looking at that map after purchasing the relief shading. Totally worth it.

    Good information. Why do some lakes not have depth shading?

    • @DoubleTFishing
      @DoubleTFishing  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Rick, has something to do with the way the lake was originally mapped. Not sure what the technical reason is. Have a great weekend!

    Need to Pick Your Brain . Looking at two different Fish finding units both look to be discontinued models and both models at the $999 price point. The Garmin Echomap Ultra 106sv with 154 Transducer. The other model is a Lowrance HDS Live 9 with 3 in 1 active imaging transducer. New boat trying to outfit. Last time i did a fishfinder was 30 yrs ago a hummingbird 565 . Wow have things changed! Any Suggestions for which one I should purchase? Looks like both of these unit can expand later to LiveOptics (livescope) or is there another unit that would be around same pricepoint . Always look forward to your Videos Thanks for your hard work Bill

    What’s the difference between depth shading and shallow shading? Your map didn’t seem to change when you turned off shallow shading.

    • @DoubleTFishing
      @DoubleTFishing  Před 3 měsíci

      Shallow shading is the distance from shore, have to be zoomed way in to see it.

    • @brs270
      @brs270 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@DoubleTFishing ok. Thanks. Do you have any idea what the map would look like if the depth shading is set 0-10’, Red, 11-20’, Green’ and 21-30’, yellow and the shallow shading set to 20’? Does it give a different colour and block out the red and green?
      Thanks for the videos, they are great!

      I’m not sure to be honest, they changed the shallow setting since I messed with it last? You used to be able to set the color, not sure what it is now🤔

      If you press and hold the information boxes in the corners it should give you options for what is displayed. There’s a box in all four corners so you can make 4 selections. Have a great day
