      Beste Rupa Customs,

Hi. I've finally found someone who has the same problem as I have. Im not confident enough to solder the unit itself but I'm guessing installing a new head unit (instead of repairing the old one ) would fix the issue. My friend has offered me one as he has upgraded his system

souag reply below: Hello, thanks for these informations, I may need to do the same job on an rns510 station. if I understood correctly all the problems come from the soldering of the pic16 which must be redone. concerning the amplifier module, you only put a new thermal paste to be sure that the cooling is done correctly. Do you know why the amplifier is defective when it is put back into service? An obdeleven tool is very expensive, it would be better if you could do this troubleshooting without needing to use it.
yes the chip has a bad connection. It is not broken. Just solder the connections again of the PIC16 . It doesn't hurt to solder the parts in the marked purple area. I have done that. But PIC16 is the issue.
Correct I only put thermal paste because there was none and with firmware 5238 you get an extra menu with temperature readings and mine was 72C, which i found to hot.
The amplifier is not defective, just because RNS510 system wasn't working properly an Error code was written in a module. YOU ONLY NEED THE ODB SCANNER IF YOUR SPEAKERS SOUND BLOWn UP (over amplification) AFTER REINSTALL. Then With ODB scanner you need to remove the error and everything work as normal. Perhaps CARLY is cheaper than ODBELEVEN, but I do not know if it works I bought ODBELEVEN. I did not buy the ODBELEVEN for the amplifier issue, I had an airbag light error (panoramic roof drains were clogged and I had a bad leak in the roof, which caused my airbags to go nuts). WHen reinstalling the rns510, the speakers didn't sound right so i did another scan and found the amplifier error and removed it and everything is back to normal. I haven't had a single issue in 4 months and other are having no problem either.
Be sure to use flux with your soldering tin. And use a soldering iron with a point tip. Magnifying glass is useful. Or ask someone that has soldered before. It's very easy to connect 2 pins while soldering so be careful.

Thanks Rupa Customs for your quick response.
I heated the pins with flux to properly resolder pic16, and also added thermal paste to the amplifier module. After reinstalling the radio in the car, it worked for a few minutes before switching off. I tried unsuccessfully to turn it back on, only heard a click in the speakers twice and quickly saw a red light once.
the problem is still not solved and maybe it is the same as this: czcams.com/video/q0PkQtzHMIo/video.html
Unfortunately, I do not understand the explanations in Italian correctly.
Apparently it's a bad connection between the first pin of the black connector and a capacitor but I don't see where he soldered the strap.
Maybe you will understand better than me by watching the video and be able to explain to me?

@@souag963 No Romanian here either haha, but the PDF described below covers part of the video. www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/521028-RNS-510-CAN-BUS-CHIP-PROBLEM/page2 maybe this? Post 13 (need to register, post hellloooo in new people section, wait 15min) / Post 20 (you can use 10k resistor, a wire, or replace chip) / Post 31 has a pdf in dropbox, but german. if copy the text into google translate it translates it correctly i've checked. Pin1 often needs to be resoldered.

-Resolder Pin1 as pointed out in PDF (STEP 7 and 8)
-Create a bride/bypass on TJA1054T/TJA1055T chip: Pin 14 (BAT) to PIN10 (Vcc) either with a wire, 10K resistor. (or replace chip)

@@souag963 I made some screen shots and put on imgur imgur.com/a/M2MR9DY
i figured out what the Romanian not italian is babbling about. If you turn off his voice, it's easier to follow haha.
At 7:19 in "Italian" video he solders the red wire (on the other board of STEP9 PDF) ---->>>> then he goes from RED to some connector with 2 wires black purple, the black and purple he solders together as 1 wire, WHY??? don't ask me ---->>> at 7:37 he solders the 2 wires in one spot and that spot is in PDF STEP10
      www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/521028-RNS-510-CAN-BUS-CHIP-PROBLEM/page3 POST 31
I made some screen shots and put on imgur
      imgur.com/a/M2MR9DY

sorry for the delay in responding, pretty easy to solder with a loop magnifier, some soldering flux, and a sharp tip on the soldering iron. You only have to reheat it with some flux and everything is connected again. Why it happens? Perhaps bad manufacturing/a lot of components seem to get hot on the unit/and yes maybe vibration and slowly causing fractures in the soldering.

This has recently started to happen to my 2012 unit. The problem came 100% from vibration. I drove over 3 cattle grids on my way to Felbrigg Hall (Sunny Norfolk). When we got back to the car the sound you are hearing one on start up happens….. then down the road 10mins it’s like the power has been cut and it restarts. I’m wondering whether it will be a cable or if it’s completely ruined the unit. Will take it out and check for anything visible but I will be clueless after that. Bring back the 80s please ☹️☹️
