I swear it's a natural evolution for alternative kids with sewing skills to turn historical.
yes!
Of course! After all, historical dressing is a real-life role-playing game! Playing the part of yourself x-many years ago 👏🏻👍🏻 It was great seeing the gradual transformation. Thank you for sharing this with us.
That's kinda wild, I got into metal as a young teen and now I'm getting into historical sewing lmfao. Never letting go of metal though, I'll cherish my battle vest just as much as my finely tailored waistcoat 🙏🏾
I know 😂 I illustrated a character design for a friends DND character that lead to me sewing a gusseted sailor shirt because I “needed” to understand its construction better 😅. I don’t understand how my brain works but I’m just glad my husband accepts it.
This is so funny. Back when I was in the Army in Germany in the 70's I dressed very much like you do but now that I am 70 and living in California's wine country I dress like a role-playing goth metal-head. One never knows--do one?
Think of it like this: all those phases you have gone through were necessary for you to become who you are now
This video is sooo adorable!
By the way, I work in a bespoke atelier and I could say THE BEST things we ever made were for ex-metalhead and ex-tolkienist IT guys. I guess there's something about this fantasy and historic background they have make their taste more sophisticated and eccentric in a good way.
My fiancé is in IT and he likes dressing nice but not boring nice. I think that’s part of it - there’s an attitude that it’s okay if you don’t just totally blend into the wallpaper?
I remember when i was a teenager.. I got so into a gang member look like.. Ya know representative and all that shit.. Baggy jeans, tank tops and big necklace and stuff.. Mostly influence by gta crap.. And i remember watching godfather once.. And was so intrigued with the way they dress.. All suits and formal looks.. And I dive straight into formal wear.. I made mistakes here and there when i was younger but learned from it and keep on improving my style.. Needless to say.. I am really into classic menswear now.. And i would love to thank you for sharing your story! And also you have been influencing me into improving my style..
What do you wear when you meet your friends?
I find it hard to wear classic menswear when my colleagues or friends dress like they are doing sport every day.
Same with me
@Joseph Pierce Why not? If your job is in jeopardy because you dress too well then that's a pretty lousy place to work.
@@blakemcnamara9105 Agreed.
It is always fascinating to see how each person's style develops over the years! I have noticed that many vintage people seem to originally come from the goth or metal communities, and I thought it interesting that you did too. Thanks for sharing your transformation!
Not goth or metal for me, but all I ever wore a few months back was the same old hoodie and jeans.
I went from a trashy glam metal chick into 80s Goth Queen!
Well, they are used to wearing strange clothing that makes them stand out of others. Both is more a costume than a style and also both focus way too much on the subgenre they like.
@@Gesetzgebender Hmmm, as someone who made this very transition from goth to vintage I find your comment interesting. Most of us are not trying to stand out but rather we are just living our lives in a way that makes us feel happy. Who is to say that one type of clothing is any more strange than the other?
It's also kind of rude to write off other peoples lifestyles by calling their style costumes or that they focus too much on their subgenre. Just because people are different doesn't make them strange, it makes them unique. :)
@@uniquelymadison what value is uniqueness when its not about youre character but how you dress?
I love classic style but also my long hair. I would never get rid of it. Your transformation is stunning by the way and I love your style.
Cheers, Niklas!
Krunoslav Kovacec Classic style and long hair. If you don’t already you should check out Hugo at Sartorial Talks. Also a great channel.
There’s a show I work on set in 1930s but we don’t ask the dancers to cut their hair if the gents have long hair - just fashion it out the way if necessary. I like long hair with vintage suiting
You could go for an 18th century look with your long hair
@@ForTheLoveOfSuits Hugo is a legend. Of course I've heard of him
@@MysticOceanDollies Oh yeah, I like the curly hairstyles that you can see on portraits of e.g. Alexander Pushkin or Lord Byron. Oscar Wilde was also quite elegant.
As I'm nurse and busy still I have sometime to watch your vedio. Stay all at home and safe ❤
I commend you for posting pictures of your transformation. I hate having my picture taken so there aren't a lot out there. Never would have taken you for a metal head but then, you can't always judge a book by its cover.
You shouldn't be ashamed of the past you! Nothing wrong in being a long-hired metalhead!
I'm on this way now from full-on 80-s metal gear to classic vintage look, but I don't think I'll ever fully cut my hair.
Cheers!
I’m only just discovering your channel today. You are providing such a great service to men everywhere. Oh, by the way, hallo from Fredericksburg, Texas. Don’t be so hard on your chin, brother. It’s stronger than you think. You look sharp in the photo with the mustache. I’m so grateful to have found your channel. Looking forward to learning from you.
A similar transformation has happened to me, although I'm a few levels less formal in my style. However I do have an acquaintance who was and still is associated with the metal community, although he's gone into politics and has been mayor/royal secretary for a time so seeing his formal style evolution was interesting for me to follow. It's really interesting how noticeable it is when someone genuinely likes this style and knows the rules, compared to only doing it out of necessity, especially in politics with people wearing plain black suits etc.
Honestly this is how Iam. I went into my emo phase (6, 7th grade), semi normal/metal phase (7 - 10th grade), back to emo (10th grade), grunge / 90s phase (11- 12th grade and two years afterwards) and now its a mixture of historical, goth and metal. Im sure I'll be hisotrical in a few years but it seems us alternative kids turn out to be historical in the end haha 😂
Okay but the Aesthetic of you today, looking super Dapper and Vintage- to the dulcet tones of Early 2000s Heavy Metal just warms my heart.
Funny how my fraternity was also the real start for of my classic menswear journey. I guess it’s a great starting point for a bunch of guys.
That’s a real Fritz Lang, Dr Mabuse look, your first vintage photo. Great era for men’s clothes.
I’ve been interested in vintage mens wear since transitioning at 16, as well as collecting antiques. Currently 20 and I’m glad to have an exquisite number of vintage clothings, I can’t imagine wearing shorts and a tee shirt in public again.
Transitioning at 16 😂
Bruh, you were groomed.
@@cursedcancersurvivor they left him alone with uncle Fred for too long 💀
I’m still a Goth/Metalhead there’s nothing wrong with that and loving different clothing styles as well. 🤘🏻
your beard is like a pokemon which has evolved over the years
I learned a lot from this... but one of the biggest lessons was the confirmation that we are our own harshest critic! I think you started looking more like you do now before you recognised it ^_^
Pretty much the exact same story as with myself, except I always despised Soulfly (especially when compared to the first three or four Sepultura albums) ;)
Nice to know I'm not the only Metalhead who made this transition.
11:42 you look straight out of peaky blinders, very cool picture and outfit!
Vintagebursche would make a terrific 'King Charles1' of England in a movie, with his looks, manner and grace.👌
Great to see your tranformation over the years and the courage and honesty to share where you've come from with others. Thanks for this.
I think a good way of looking at it is this: the best way to live a happy life when it comes to dressing, is to dress in whatever way brings you most happiness at the time. As we change through our lives, so does the aesthetic/look that brings us the most happiness, and that's okay. So there's no reason to cringe if you were dressing goth/emo/lolita/prep/anything in the past. Just because that wouldn't make you happy today doesn't mean it is embarrassing; it made you happy at the time and that's what matters. I've spent a lot of time with older folks and one thing I've learned from them is that all the worrying about what's cool or refined or whatever ends up seeming sillier and sillier the more perspective you gain in life. So just dress in whatever way you can that will make you happiest and don't worry about the future you, because there's no one "right" direction in your outfitting journey, just a lot of fun islands you can visit and even carry souvenirs as you keep traveling.
Similar transformation here. I've had long (and very curly) hair for six years throughout school. I cut it off in my graduation year (just a month after my "Maturaball", timing is not my greatest strength). It was around that time, that I bought my first three-piece-suit with a pocket square. But I really got into powerlifting/strongman the following years, so I just couldn't find fitting suits anymore. Thanks to you I found Hockerty though, which was the real start for my classic menswear/vintage journey. Now I mainly wear pre-1950s-style work and student wear (1930s especially, due to their roomy pants). Even my gym attire has switched more to a vintage-inspired outfit to complement my handlebar moustache. So take this as a big thank you for playing a large role in my style journey.
PS: If you still update your shop list, you might want to check out Labour Union and Oldfield Clothing.
Binge watching your vids. Your metal to vintage journey makes me very happy. I just KNEW you were a badass at heart. I mean, how could you not be 🖤
This is delightful, especially I think it was helpful for the critiques to show you also learned the silhouettes and fitting. I do enjoy your grandfathers suit, it’s a lovely colour of blue I do hope you kept it ❤. I also had a crazy changing of styles and it’s funny as a trans man many young women and young gay people in general in my personal life look to me for some reason 😅 and I always show them photos of myself as a younger to show them
“I have never had idea what I’m doing, I’m just not afraid to look stupid, I just want to look happy”.
Now as a trans man trying to explore vintage menswear and more importantly how proper styling and fitting should work, i appreciate your insight and your attention to detail in your work!
I am also a metalhead with long hair. Because my girlfriend is a vintage fans, I start to inform myself of the vintage stuffs. In your video I see my future 😆
It's courageous of you to make this video. Well done.
Danke für die klasse Videos. Du bist eine große Inspiration! Keep on the great work, my friend.
Danke danke ☺️
it was so fun to see the transformation! and knowing that you made mistakes a long the way and it wasn't an overnight transformation is comforting to me as I dive into vintage fashion. I love your style
Great achievement. I adore people who are able to invent themself new and find a more satisfying way of clothing. I myself struggle for a year now to establish kinda of 40s wardrobe and know how difficult that can be. I am soooo far away from that I want to be yet.
Wow, I just discovered your channel and am utterly amazed at how much knowledge you harbour about classic menswear. I’m a lady interested in becoming a stylist, particularly a menswear stylist, and I just wish I knew someone as knowledgeable as you to study and learn under! Every little detail from sleeve lengths to pocket square folds to fabrics and textiles... I wish to know it all as in depth as you do one day. The devil is in the details... You’re terrific and you look absolutely brilliant! I admire this vintage style so much, I think every man looks stunning and so perfectly put together from that era. Gorgeous work! Thank you from Canada! 👍🏻🇨🇦
Great video, I remember in the mid-2000s thinking black on black was amazing. I only recently started trying to dress with a bit more style, I wear a suit every day to the office and started to notice this does look right or this bit isn't made as well.
So I went to CZcams and I started to research what I need to do to get a better fit. It's nice to see that as I go along this journey I can expect ups and downs.
In my experience is the same when look back on older outfits, i guess we improve over time! Love your channel! Please... consider make a vid about "Making of Detachable Collar or stiff collars" im having difficulties on that, and it will great for me and i guess for others too. Really appreciate your work!!! Best regards from Argentina.
I have a couple of other sewing videos on my to do list, but I'll definetly do collars eventually.
@@Vintagebursche Thanks you so much for reply!!! you know, all of your vids are special to me, because some how i see myself reflected. I started making from skratch my own vest and very first in 2015 because i want to use pocket watch, with that i bought my first sewing machine in 2015, and you can imagine, i'm also IT Consultant with my own clients. I starting wearing suit 15 year ago for my first client, and that became an everyday situation until the present and not just for work, in live itself. of course if you see my suits back then are very different, i dont know if a have the courage to see old pictures of me wearing those first outfits back then hahaha. Anyways, thanks alot again!!!!!
my dad has always represented classy menswear so well. he's completely got the craft down. even though i'm female, i admire his fashion so much i started dressing more like him
Super that you captured some of the photos, plus the transformation from where you have come to now, brilliant video..stay safe
I love your videos! I've been dressing in a vintage style for 7 years and I love seeing people's transition into vintage ✨
You have come a loooooong way! A vast improvement and you have found an easy going, yet highly presentable personal style along that way.
Great video, thanks. We all have ‘those’ outfits that cause us physical pain in our past.
Love the outfit. The jacket, the shirt, the tie are amazing! Congratulations from Portugal.
Thanks for sharing your transformation with us! I have a friend that lives in Hamburg that would probably love your channel, going to send them some of your videos. 💞 from 🇭🇲 Australia
I'm so pleased you showed the pictures; putting aside the physical pain it causes you: we've all wore shocking (still wear? hopefully not;-)) combinations. I've been on a sartorial journey over the past 3 or 4 years and I now know that classic men's style is firmly where I want to be going.
What is clear from the images you've showed here, is that it is often takes several years to gather the knowledge and know how, and the clear sartorial direction to be able to pull off men's classic style.
I have suits that I bought a year or 2 ago - most of which are vintage/second hand/ thrift shop and modified by a tailor, that I am not really 100% happy with. I like the way you describe your journey and that mistakes will be made and even 'backward' steps made. I think this makes for a better and deeper understanding of what really works.
Again, I enjoy the content and hope to see more like this in the future. Keep safe, as they say - but that's important! I'm self-isolating abut may don a Spring jacket when I'm able to buy a loaf ;-)
Tony
Thanks for opening up and sharing. A road well travelled... You looked great in your first job
Your actual style is impeccable.
You are to be commended sir , an amazing transformation .
Sir , love the shirts with the detachable collars . I have started wearing them . It was a pleasure to watch this video .
Congrats queen 🙌💅
I love all your Looks! Most people go through different looks throughout their life. I know I have, and I look back at all my looks fondly...👍
I am so glad you transformed yourself! Ausgezeichnet!
Hello Niklas, I just discovered your channel and this was the first video that was recommended. I am also a metalhead and in the past 5 years have been discovering classic menswear and how to put together different outfits. My interest actually began with boots, since I wanted to buy some quality leather boots for going to metal concerts, and started to learn what are the main features to look for. From then on, it was all the way to the rabbit hole. I still have my long hair (not cutting it anytime soon), wear earrings on and off, have lots of metal t-shirts; but also have some many dress shirts, a bespoke suit, and a growing collection of classic shoes out of which 2 are shell cordovan (one of them of course a pair of boots lol). Learning about style and menswear have made me more conscious of how to show part of myself in a fun and versatile way, while investing in quality items and vintage stuff. I am happy to know that there are more like me on this journey for self-expression. All the best from Peru!
I love your transformation. You speak English beautifully. Congratulations.
I like the classic look to it. I cant tell ur dressing vintage its more classic and i love it
Interessante Entwicklung hast du durchgemacht ^^ sympatisch in allen stadien der Transformation.
The last photo of you (along with what you currently were wearing) showed how handsome you are. Everything just fit together well. I think one needs to try things on to see how they look together!
I wish I had a foto from one of my go to styles in 2008/2009, white shirt, flared jeans (a little bit to long and with a high rise) and my long long hair in my natural color without any kind of hairdo, openly flying in the wind. I often got told, I looked like a kid from the 70ies. Loved it!! Now my hair got chopped off a few years ago and my outfit is very different.😄😉 I couldn't decide as a young adult, who I was. So I heard Rock and Punk, dressed normal or like a kid from the 70ies and let my hair grow as long as it could get. 😄 Maybe I will start someday and wear vintage, but for now, I really love my stuff that I now have, for example my green and black stripped knitted sweater that's a little bit Punk and my nice warm boots. Maybe when I could sew properly, my outfits will change, because I have the possibility to get something in my size and price range and maybe alter it. But until then, I will enjoy my stuff I already have.
Oh man, you have get your skills developed great deal, Nobody but nobody could criticised your evolution since it is all yours ❤❤
My favourite outfits are the white jacket you're wearing as you talk in this video, and the pinstripe Supply Suit from 2017. You don't age! Good for you.
Very fun video! I really love how you look in that fox brown? color with the color of your hair & beard!
After watching a lot of your and Gentlemen's Gazette's videos, I realise as a larper and metal fan, that the time for washed out band shirts and uncormfortable jeans will finally be over.
This video is very helpful since I have 3 son's.
Thank you.
where you went from Metalhead to Fraternity is quite a twist! 😂
you are so sophisticated, and handsome too !!
So cool to see your glow-up! I've also got teenage long hair, and as much as I like the rockstar/knight/pirate/viking vibes, it certainly doesn't look classy, and there's no way to style it with a suit. I'm getting kinda tired of it and I think it's time for short hair again.
Always entertaining and fascinating to see a personal development in fashion style. I guess most people think "Oh my gosh!" 🤦♀️ 🤦♂️when seeing older photos, but you're right, thats how you develop your style.
I think wearing a kilt to a Abiball is a great idea. 😁 And i also liked the black Hugo Boss suit! You look comfortable in this outfit. (Although being comfy is not the main goal in a suit, right? 😄)
I learned the word dimple in this video. 😘
Super videoblog!
Danke für die Infos. Für mich ist dein Homepage auf deutsch hilfreicher, aber durch deine Videos habe ich Lust gekriegt englisch zu lernen.
Du bist lustig!
I personnally went from « football sportswear » every day to full suited + pocket, etc… everyday in ONE MONTH. I evoluated very quick, i made some mistakes but now, its been 4 month and i can assume that i wear suit really nicely. My life changed when i changed clothing style. Thank You for being that inspirational ! I love as vintage suits as business « yuppies » suits ! I can turn into Patrick Bateman or Edwardian man in a fraction of seconds ! (Sorry if i made english mistakes, i am french)
Nice transformation! Nothing better than the present fashion stage…
Love how the pocket square from your suit in 2015 looks like the black lodge symbol 🤣
love the mustache and beard!
Pretty cool... In this same time, I went from looking like a vagabond in worn out denim and nasty dreads to today where I look like a friar rubbing wood. Traded the denim in for sackcloth and the nappy dreads all grew together in to 1 big dread. Although I don't really listen to metal anymore it is mostly the Psalter for me, but I do like bardcore instrumental metal covers
I was thinking on your pointing out 'my suits are way to large for me' and looking at the shoulders and it looked ok. And then .... wow! The difference between 5:50 and 7:15, just gobsmacked me right out.
Great walk through time video!....may I ask , do you use beard/moustache wax to get that sharp defined look?..( especially the moustache!👍)
Congratulation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My birthday is tomorrow and what a great BD present, not just a new video but hearing about your journey. Frankly I laughed so hard seeing your early photo that I had to pause the video till I could breathe normally again. But you should see how I dressed as a young person, you'd laugh too.
I'm glad you're having fun. 😉
I found your channel at CoCoVid, men's wear is not my main interest but I wanted to compliment you on your sartorial skill and I'll be catching your videos in the future.
Wow, you can be proud of your journey, what a change, you've learn a lot !
... Not enough knickerbockers for my taste, but don't worry, it's not your fault, even in the stories of Tim und Schtruppi, there's not enough knickerbockers for me :-))))
This might be the biggest, most amazing transformation I've ever seen!
I think you look great with short hair! Very smart.
We all have a past. Don’t be shamed of who you were or looked like. People change over time. What you look like and are into doesn’t take anything away from who you are as a person.
You look great!
Im on the same process 😂 old trad goth, but now changing to a inspired everyday barock/ rokoko style ☺️
You remind me of my brother in law, makes me love your channel even more haha
Excellent video, thanks! I have decided to invest in bespoke clothingbecause of your channel! One small remark concerning your otherwise excellent English...when you say 'apparently' I believe you mean 'obviously' or 'clearly'. Keep up the good work!
You appear to be quite fond of black neckties over the years.
Continuing in this vein, black and white photography may influence the vintage style of today. Certainty many clothes, particularly outer garments, would have been dark for practical reasons in the age of coal especially among the less affluent, but I suspect that vivid colours would have been present if only as accents. Antique and vintage upholstery and drapery have a subdued pallet, however here time and sunlight are the cause. On disassembly the original colours were often found to be rich and bright. Victoria's mourning had a substantial influence on all fashion in the UK, but I was under the impression that subsided by the end of the Great War.
Perhaps you have some insight on this subject. Many thanks.
dein bart sieht so gut aus in dem video, in kombination mit der leicht rausgewachsenen frisur
I've just have a look on your Instagram. Awesome stuff there
I hope you still play tabletop games on occasion, of that's what the "RPG" in the title means, they're very fun!
Mr. Vintagebursche,
You are so interesting and mannerly... and handsome.
Soulfly is a great band!
Really great video! It is fun to see the masters transformation. We all start somewhere and I myself started wearing ties everyday since I was 12 years old. Looking back I also regret my former haircut, I looked like a Beatles member.
I have long hair (don't plan on cutting it) but wear mostly 1920s inspired garb, so I try to make it fit without changing too much. My phillosophy is to basically make everything else in my outfit period appropriate (or as appropriate as possible) but just assume I just happened to be a long-haired dandy or something lol
well, I had the same transformation, from black metalhead to a well dressed gentleman, and I still listening to metal
Der Flanellanzug gewinnt für mich trotz Deiner kritischen Dekonstruktion 😉 Herzliche Grüße von einem Co-Metalhead.
I also have gone through a style change. I used to have long hair and it was freeing to chop it off. I'm tempted to cut it again because I can't decide how to style my longer hair. I also have gotten into vintage .. how do you look current yet vintage?
Au Banan extrem tolle Stiltransformation
Hard metal punk transform into 1920’s classic gentleman. Triple- Cool! 🤘🤘🤘
I asked my husband if he wanted to watch the video with me because he really adores the shirt and vest look. He immidiatly said he can't wear this because of his belly. He is pretty much in the 2003 area right now lol.
Do you have tipps or a video for fuller men?
your 2003 is me rn... i can only hope i get as fancy looking as you now
