I actually love this season. The best parts of Overlord are the politics and world building, and see how everything interacts with each other in an organic, living system of interconnected peoples and states. This episode today was one of the highlights of the entire season for me, and I think the show shines when it spends its time building the world and how Nazarick has shifted its balances.
@@raychii7361 To be honest, you make a somewhat fair point, but I'd argue that this series actually does OP right, in that we see the effect such a force would realistically have on the world and it's people. It uses the premise of Nazarick being utterly OP to explore many themes, like politics, religion, people's perspectives, their psyche and the depths of morality. You see, if Ainz was a good guy and simply bitch slapping some evil Kingdom (like a certain Slime) it would frankly be boring as fuck. But the Re-Estize Kingdom is not just full off assholes, the vast majority are genuinely good and normal people, like Zanac, the adventurers, the general population, and even some nobles like Marquis Raeven and that Count. It's just many of the nobles who are corrupt and deserve death, and that the king was incompetent. Ainz is actually the villain in the situation. Nazarick acts like an antagonistic force and imo this makes this whole thing work. It is a stomp, yes, but it's not just that simple. On top of that, the characters are actually well-written and we get a full view of their perspective of the situation. There is just something captivating about watching genuinely likeable characters trying to fight against absolutely hopeless odds and continuing to stand strong, even in the face of annihilation. And as Zeronic mentioned there's the whole thing about Ainz being "evil" but that we see and understand his view point, which makes us understand that it's all a matter of perspective, and that the world of Overlord is not simply black and white.
I honestly felt sad seeing Zanac's head in the bag, I was beginning to like him too. And I LOVED the way anime showed Ainz's emotions, even though he has no expression on his face showing he's angry, you can definitely feel it by the way he moved and talked.
At first I thought I was going to dislike him base from his appearance, but then over time he gave me a completely new respect for him… And then they executed him like that… Edit: Also in a weird way, I didn’t really felt any emotion after seeing Zanac’s head. Literally the second I noticed that a rebellion was happening. I had a lot of respect for Zanac, and was suddenly ripped out of me before I had a chance to process it.
It got to me a bit even after reading the light novel. He really does come off as a good king and he earned my respect. I also like the subversion of having the short dumpy guy be the ideal leader over all the typical pretty or kingly looking people
One indication of Ainz's rage on Zanac's assassination was him explicitly telling Aura to make the nobles who killed him suffer and suffer as they die. It was an interesting scene since his order demonstrates both a fitting reward and mercy for the enemies of Nazarick and Ainz's wrath on what happened to Zanack. The initial torture was is punishment for showing betrayal, giving them death is the fitting reward, and the slow and painful death shows Ainz's wrath. The Satoru and Momonga theory is pretty interesting, hopefully it's true since it will make a lot of Ainz's moves in the series makes sense instead of boiling it down to dumb luck. Momonga's INT stat should've played a role since the other stats also does for Satoru. It's most likely that the personality and soul of Suzuki Satoru can't keep up with the innate intelligent Momonga possess along with his low self-esteem making him do intelligent moves subconsciously.
well, i don't think they will die too easily.. neuronist is excellent at her job at keeping those in her care alive. death will be near but yet not close enough to grasp. Death is the reward and i doubt it would be easy to have. I think it will just be a slow and painful suffering for them.
That satorou momonga theory makes sense.... I read it on a book if my memory serves me right... That acting or lying on self personality creates split identity.....
Prince Zanac is truly the most competent rulers of Re Estize. Ainz would see his death really such a waste because Ainz really wants the prince himself to be one of his right hand in decision making especially in Kingcraft, in my opinion, idk.
@@muhamadsyahmi951 Nah. Zanac was supposed to die or can die in the war. I dont think he'll give orders to have NPC avoid killing him. What angered Ainz is the Blatant betrayal of a seemingly good king in Ainz' eyes to save their own skin. The best way to describe his emotion was being "utterly disgusted" at the Kingdom's nobles
I noticed the armor hes wearing, who ever wears that armor gain Bone Daddy a Respect. Btw the guy who stood in the prince side earned my respect for loyalty.
I was quite surprised he died from a combat perspective, I know he sucked but he had a good position. The soldiers behind for the flank, assuming they were loyal that is, should've been a win, or close at least. It looked as though almost none of the nobles even died in the fight, I was looking among the nobles kneeling at Ainz to see if he was there. Expecting him to have sealed the deal backstabbing him. Couldn't see him though.
@@wasdwasd609 I think you misinterpret the situation as I did first. If you watch the scene 2-3x times you can see his smile isn't like "oh yes help" it's more like "Am I this disappointing for the kingdom, that everyone betrtays me?" So the soldiers that joined up were actually allies of the nobles and the smile was the result of the lost possbility of victory when those guys joined up.
@Cold Yes, in the novel Zanac actually killed a couple of the nobles that try to take his head. So they wimp out and call for their soldiers for support, which made Zanac think “I must really be a bad king if they all feel the same as these nobles.” It’s a shame that he had to die thinking that. Zanac really did have a lot of potential, he just had to deal with unfortunate circumstances beyond his control.
Yes. Finally they did it right. I was worried since 2nd season which also supposed to focus on world building was made badly by omitting a lot of actual info out, but they executed it quite well this time. This has made my 2nd best season slot already. If next 2 episode they top it off with a good action packed finale then season 1 is probably gonna drop to 2nd place.
Well madhouse is rushing through content. An showing action costs Alot to animate. There saving Budget for a handful of action scenes. So far this season they have gone through 3 books....and the movie is going to cover another 2. So if we're lucky we'll get another season 3 years from now to end the series. Kinda sad, Alot of people love the world the author has created but it seems everyone involved wants to blow through it and end it.
This reminds of Roman History when the Ptolemy presented Pompei Magnus' head to Caesar. He also got mad and angry, even though Pompei and Caesar are enemies they still respected each other.
I really liked Zanac character. The first time we see him, behing kind of rude to his sister and her loyal servant, it's easy to see him a the little fatty, over-arogant and petty second prince. But trough the serie, we see him behing actually intelligent, making good decisions and struggling to find the best action for the kingdom. We see him acknowledging and respecting people he don't really like : his monster of a sister and even the undead kind who's the cause if all of his people misery... And it's easy to hate an arogant and stupid prince, but he's actually the contrary of everything everyone believed him to be. I knew how he was going to end, but I was rooting for him more than the princess.
I think the really interesting part is that in a typical fantasy story, he probably would have just been to the cocky kind of ugly second son of the king, but with how bad the kingdom was and acknowledging how others saw him that way, he strives to be much greater than the archetype.
Actually that arrogant attitude was just an act on Zanac’s part. In confidence he acts more like how we see him now(though not this extent). Zanac figured the worthless nobles would try to take advantage of him regardless so he put on that act to try and bait out nobles that were worth acquainting, like Raeven. Unfortunately after the events of season three with the king distraught, his brother missing, and the Sorcerer Kingdom officially their neighbors Zanac couldn’t keep up his act anymore. Or rather he couldn’t waste the effort to act with all his new responsibilities.
This is one of the peak moments in Overlord. This episode made us respect a man who was introduced in earlier episode thinking that he is another throwaway side character. He even wish that his little sister survive and live a happy life with Climb. And also relief to know what was happen to his missing older brother
@@tykep1009 the title would probably be "My new Life as a mailman of another world". Ironically enough taking place in Ainz's former world and Gazzef being his co-worker 😂
Oh my god, that last scene was chilling, Ainz was so infuriated. You can tell how much he had respected Zanac after their little meeting and was upset that he had to die such a death. When I saw Albedo smile after Ainz told her to send them to Neuronist, I could tell they are going to have an even worse time than they would have in the war but then seeing Ainz give those instructions to Aura, I can't even imagine what they'll go through.
One of my favorite things about the after-credits scene is that after he sees the head in the bag, Ainz walks over and throws himself down onto his throne, when he is usually more dignified. His voice becomes bored and his attitude becomes short. The way he suddenly grabs Aura's arm to tell her to make sure the nobles die slowly, when he is usually very gentle with her and Mare. It's such a subtle way to show that he has completely given up on trying to place nice with these awful people.
I love that ending of that episode. The nobles did indeed get a reward equal to their efforts. Nueronist and the Happy Farm are the two places you would never want to go.
Also Gashokukochuuou(I had to look up his name in order to spell it right) because he’s essentially a giant worm that lays its eggs in people. The victims are kept alive, and possibly paralyzed, for as long as possible while being very slowly eaten alive by thousands of parasitic worms.
@GLaDOS I don’t know if he has levels in healing, but Nazarick has plenty of healing scrolls. And yeah I’m sure even the Ainz Ooal Gown members would be mortified to see their creations come to life like this.
what i also like is the symbolism at 17:32 left: Zanac, the last king of the re estize kingdom, a human and a live horse right: Ainz, the sorcerer kingdom, an Undead Overlord, soul eater undead horse both side deeply cares and love their subject 2 butterfly on the bottom the one on the left perched onto a dead trunk (lifeless, no hope, blight future) the one on the right perched onto a growing branches with leaves (full of life, hopeful, bright future future)
When Ainz hold Aura's hand and told her that even if they want to die give them the slowest most painful death (something like that) i really felt it , like how enraged he was . And another thing , those filthy nobles didn't let Ainz keep his promise to Zanac . Ainz told him that he will give him a peaceful death but oh boi look what happened .
ngl it's becoming my new weekly routine now. i watched overlord new episode at night, i go to sleep, and wake up the next day in excitement to watch your weekly breakdown video
One of Zanac’s final comments before dying was that Ainz was more human than he expected, followed by Ainz responding to his death in a way that was purely emotion based and devoid of any logic, just like a human would. Peak narrative parallels.
I found it crazy people thought this season was slow, crazy how it’s season 4 and the world building and character development still being implemented.
I agree with the theory that there are two personalities in Ains, based on the fact that his internal dialogues are voiced by different actors depending on the situation. I'd love to see how that plays into the finale of Overlord 🤩
The way Bone Daddy grabbed (I think Aura) and was like. "Even when they beg for death make sure it doesn't come quickly." It gave me chills a little. I've not had the opportunity to read the LN so am experiencing this through the Anime only so really appreciate these videos. Thanks man!
The fact that even Zerconic can't remember the ninja class warrior's name shows that he's a pro at what he does, I'm excited to see the part he plays in the anime.
I remember Ainz saying something along the lines of "Don't kill them unless they beg for death, and even then make it as agonizing as possible." Those nobles honestly had it coming.
people are so spoiled on epic fights scenes from all these animes that they forgot how good a well made anime is, giving back stories and building up the world around the supporting characters, Anime watches these days just want to see epic fight scenes every episode and if this is not given they lose interest just soo bad
Problem is, when you build up as much as Overlord, people do expect something good at the end. Imagine building up something for a whole season and it results in a short 10 second fight. Only good part in Overlord was the Shalltear fight, great build up, high steaks, and finishes it off on a high note, all without wasting our time with pointless exposition dumps and characters we don't care about.
@@xenosaga123456789 ahh as expected your a perfect example of one of those new epic fight andys that expect a fight at the end of each episode to keep your attention to an anime, you have no understanding of the anime or characters, your just here for the fight scenes you could care less about the characters, all you care about is the MC fight scenes, LOL that's what all the new people who are introduce into anime know, so no can wrong you their, since that's the way all new animes are trending, only the OG's will know and understand what a well-made and well rounded anime is. Did you even read the novel??? to know what type of anime overlord is??????? holy crap bro, now wonder you know nothing about animes all you do is watch anime for the fight scenes LOL haha, bro just stop watching anime if that all your watching it for and go back to your IRL life LOL you have no idea what good anime is even if it walked up to you and slap you in the face LOL
In my opinion I loved this episode I've always loved the more political and strategic side of overlord because like you said about the theory with ainzs it makes since we aren't really seeing the aura he gives off when he's angry like we used to which makes it feel like he isn't as conflicted about not feeling emotions And shows that he is able to handle more serious matters calmer. I could truly realize how fed up ainz was when he grabbed Aura telling them not to give them a painless death. Also when he told Cocytus and Mare to not hold back since up until then he has always wanted them to be reserved
I liked the episode. Was awesome to learn about these new characters. Just one thing that was hinted at but not explicitly said in this episode, that one man army blonde dude is the brother of a certain crazy lady named Clementine
I'm an anime only watcher and haven't read the novels but the way I see it with ainz is that he's a human at heart. I don't think it's a full on split personality, but I always get the feeling that his soul is human and it's just the mental passives of the undead race which nudge him to what he does. His mind makes calculations on every deciscion; both purely utilitarian and also moral. But because he's undead the moral calculation is forced out of the final decision. That's why ainz talks about not feeling affinity for humans. It's not hatred, he simply can't feel a moral urge to engage in heroism to protect humans. It's like a human soul that's been repressed on an extremely fundamental level.
Thank you for explaining the adamantite adventurer meeting scene. Wouldve had a hard time figuring out that the meeting was completely seperate from re-estize's war preparations otherwise!
This season so far is probably the best one since season 1. The worldbuilding, exploration is great and seeing the world shake upon Ainz's gaze is great!
This was my most favorite episode so far! The beheading of Zanac really caught me off guard when it happened and made me sadly lose much of my sympathy as well.
I feel the same. This episode was really great in terms of world building. But I felt about as angry as Ainz was. Here we have a moment of mutual respect, and Ainz even agreed to give a quick death that wasn't painful to Zanac and those brave enough to join him. Then there was those arrogant, downright stupid nobles, backstabbing the only person who managed to stave off Ainz massacre of civilians. I'd be furious too if the man I made an honest deal with, got killed by the very thing he was trying to protect. It's no wonder Aniz wanted these nobles to suffer. They're the reason their own country got into this mess and now they're gonna reap what they sown
This is honestly my new favourite episode of Overlord, Ainz went full badass mode and we saw so much of him as the Sorcerer King and I loved every moment of it.
Tbh this arc is where I have kept reading over and over and over. Its such a masterpiece to be able to portray Ainz silent anger. His rage. He respected Zanac but in the end, the people just didnt want to stand by him.
i really like the ending when ainz said i understand i understand. in his mind he like just gtfo already it give me shiver.i rewatch the ending so many time it so good
I’m kind disappointed that they didn’t talk about the red suit. Like how it was something for noob to lv up fast but no real threat to them. But this episode was pretty good, I enjoy the seen when he grabbed the arm and you can tell he was furious.
The mech sure is good to help low level to defeat mid level, but wouldnt stand a chance against high level. It would give the Pleiades some trouble in 1v1, but theyll manage if they worked together. However, the floor guardian wouldn't have a problem fighting Azuth. Even Demiurge, the weakest combatant of the Floor Guardian would be glad if Ainz told him to deal with Ainz
@@dreadrath it's a sad and angry moment for viewers so bringing the outro will ruin the impact. So they didn't. But I agree with OP. That entire info about the mech was skipped was sad.
My personal theory ties in to the one you mentioned about 2 identitys because I think that ainz achualy is as smart as the npcs think but he does it all subconsciously as part of that second identity of the character he is
love your positive outlook of the series that other content creators on just telling what something bad not understanding the circumstances of the studio and direction. Thank you for being a positive bubble on my feeds.
I think Ainz is subject to the rules just like his npc companions. Whatever was in their description was what they basically ended up being. Again they do differ slightly from the descriptions about them but when choosing his race it ultimately might just be part of being an undead and it's his emotions are just being suppressed to fit the bill. They aren't swapping in and out but I think more like his sense of self is slowly being fused into a permanent state. It doesn't appear as often that he would get shocked at some of the situations like in the beginning. It's like shock therapy I guess. The higher the emotion the higher the voltage.
You made me think perhaps its as if its forcing him to revert to the settings he set for himself, like you said, he's subject to rules. Like if he put "Momonga is always calm and collected, except when he's angry" then when he gets super embarrassed its the game correcting him because he's out of bounds, not because he's "too emotional for an undead". We don't see it in the others because they always follow their design (or close enough to not need the auto correct). this would suggest as long as its within his description its fair game, also probably why we see it less and less. As if his human side is slowly becoming more like the character, he can still act out, but he tends to react how Momonga would, whereas he didn't as much in the beginning
The blond guy I thought at first that he is Clementine revived and turned into a Priest caster but when I heard he is the brother I think he might be hugged by Ainz.
Firstly, I didn't think that the Marquis was working against the re estize kingdom considering his efforts in the Katze plains to protect the people as much he can. But when they pointed out that his son might have been taken as a hostage, that dawned on me how bad the situation is. Secondly, I got confused why Ainz sent them to Neuronist when they pledged their loyalty to Ainz. But when you explained it, it made sense in the most human level why Ainz is disgusted by the betrayal. I don't think he thinks Zannac might be the best king, but they somehow connected on a basic level with two leaders wanting the best for their people. I like how you're giving flavor to the episodes. Kudos to you and your channel!
King: takes my head and please stop this! Nazarick: lol no Nobles: How about we try this again but with the prince’s head? Of course it would go greatly.
I absolutely love world building in anime especially when it doesn’t feel like it was half assed and there is actually some thoughts within the story I wish they showed more but I know not all anime can be like one piece and get a bunch of episodes
When Ainz grabbed Aura by the arm to tell her even if they begged to kill them slowly. His aggressive action toward a floor guardian showed just the amount of rage he had
Ainz practiced sitting on a throne in a dignified way when in front of his subjects. When he sat down after giving over Zaneks head he plops down roughly which is a good touch.
I really enjoy the anime, how the world building and how it lead’s up to the action. Truly a gem 💎. Love your breakdown look forward to your next one.👌🏿
Zanac looking like a little kid on his horse as he was riding away was a great touch. Even though he looked cartoonish he was a true leader and worthy of being a king. It is quite sad that the people that Ainz gets to admire are all doomed, often by his own hand. Zanac really won a spot in my heart with this episode!
Man, I don’t understand the people saying it’s slow I absolutely love the political aspect of this series, it’s what sets it apart from the rest of the power fantasies. This one is a power fantasy no doubt about it but it weaves it into the plot as a secondary agent, it’s not just big strong MC destroy less strong but arrogant bad guy. The world building and character building of the rest of the cast is *muah chef’s kiss*. I’m so sad we’re only three weeks off of the end it breaks my heart.
The political aspect fails because at the end of the day, no matter how good or bad negotiations are, nothing will happen to the main characters. The purpose of politics is to achieve something one cannot do individually or with strength. However, Ainz and Nazarick already have the ability to do anything they want, so the political aspect falls flat overall. Even if you look at the story from the perspective of the new world. No matter what they do, they won't be able to beat Ainz in anything. The author already said even if everyone in the new world teamed together, they wouldn't make it past the 3rd floor of Nazarick. The story, politics, and world-building are predictable. Overlord is like a slice of life with the occasional fight.
Hope he managed to kill at least one of those mercenaries. In fact since he was wearing Gazef's old armor and other gear, he probably did manage to at least wound one or two before going down despite not being a fighter. Plus he had his attendant backing him up, so maybe they did do a little damage.
I thank you for your analysis. I was touch by the fact that Eins requested Albedo that the was buried properly instead of just being turn into an undead a singed he truly respected him.
A slight change but I missed the lines form the LN when Ainz "granted" the nobles' wishes, where they insisted their families go with them and he says "even your families?" after it's clear that their fates will not be pleasant, and instead of telling Aura to let them eventually die, he says "even if they beg for death, do not let them die" implying (for now) eternal healing and torture instead of eventual relief, a more nuanced show of Ainz' anger at them. As said, a slight change that doest affect the trajectory of the scene, but it does miss out on some of the emotional gravitas of the fallout of the nobles' deeds.
I really love your reviews about the Overlord episodes, I hope you will do some spoiler videos aswell or even do some LN readings, I really do enjoy listening to you and your insights.
I really appreciate that they didn’t do the typical blinded by rage protagonist trope. The calm and collected, comparatively silent vibe of the scene has a way bigger impact, and truly shows just how furious these vile creatures made him
Im glad to have your videos. I always hope for more content from you! I look forward to seeing more from you. I hope you will also cover the movie for overlord? This episode was crazy though. Zanac is one of the humans I like and would have prefered to live. He and jircniv strike me as good leaders.
You're amazing keep up the great work, 4:55 when you said they didn't mention the black scripture in the anime, the red drop dude said they are the black scripture and the big dude confirmed it was them with out saying it themselves
One thing I liked best about about Zanac was his character design. Usually in anime evil nobles are depicted rather like Zanac. Short, obese, not very attractive while the good ones look like Renner. The usual ugly without and within. But they subverted our expectations by the good noble the ugly one while the beautiful one is evil. A refreshing subversion of the usual trope.
Loving the comments and the episode breakdown. Aside from Gazeff, seeing Zanac don the armor, was surprising at first but after going through the ep breakdown, I can say that no one else could fit it better than him. Loves the country, died protecting and fighting for his country. Definitely sad about the School Days end he had... Wish we saw him struggle some more... Would like to know more about how Neuronist took care of the nobles with her unending hospitality.
Agreed the politics in Overlord is basically the entire story. So whenever people say the non-action parts of the story are boring, they are essentially saying Overlord itself is boring. Which I personally don’t understand(maybe because I’m an LN reader) but Overlord’s political conflict is really engaging and always intriguing. Especially how Ainz and his subordinates will play a role in these complex webs of relationships, reputations, and deceptions while looking to achieve their own goals.
I still love Albedo's and Demiurge's reaction upon learning that it wasn't any scheming or some grand plan to mess with the Sorcerer Kingdom. It was just the plain stupidity of the noble class.
If the duality of Ainz is to be taken as a note, I believe that both Ainz and Suzuki Saturo are not just duking it out but trying to reason one another on certain situations, Zanac's death could be seen as a form of it (trying to be humble/human and finding happiness via said conversation followed by no mercy for betrayal of a decent guy also potential betrayal later on).
its super amazing, ep 10 was a piece of art, thats what i wish from an anime, not a meangingless fight scene, thanks for the reveiw and breakdown been waiting for your video ty
World Building over action is what made Overlord such a good show. And if anything, it makes the action sequences seem that much more thrilling since they are more sporadic.
As Zanac said, Ainz is definitely a monster on the outside, but surprisingly human on the inside. However, it ended up being the opposite for the nobles that followed Zanac. They’re human on the outside, but they’re truly the monster on the inside. Only out for their own selfish desire to live by disrespecting and killing the person they supposedly sworn to follow.
I love seeing daddy bones get angry, just the scene of him asking they should take them to the neuronist and to kill them slowly. 😩😩😩😩. Then at the end saying he got bored and ask my boy cocytus and mare to lay total destruction and mayhem.😍😍😍😍. That’s the lil scenes in Overlord that made me love the series from day one. His total lack of emotion when he sees the darkness in humans and then just decides to be the hammer of justice.
I've read the light novel and you were right on what you said in a previous episodes, there are some parts that were taken out and you can clearly see the cuts in the anime. Anyone who hasnt read the light novel then I would suggest that you do so since you will be missing a lot of the story.
great breakdown. I read somewhere that that Ainz explained to Zanac that he thought the plains demonstration was enough to deter foolishness but it wasn't so this was the only course of action. Did that happen in the LN?
I remember the same excerpt, however no it was not in the official translation for the novels. I am not sure if that was just added by the fan translator or if it was(for some reason) omitted from the official text, but I know what you’re talking about.
@11:00 wow first time hearing that theory! I like it alot and the little particle effect is the personality swap, idk if its true but its an interesting theory

At first I thought I was going to dislike him base from his appearance, but then over time he gave me a completely new respect for him…
And then they executed him like that…
Edit:
Also in a weird way, I didn’t really felt any emotion after seeing Zanac’s head. Literally the second I noticed that a rebellion was happening. I had a lot of respect for Zanac, and was suddenly ripped out of me before I had a chance to process it.
@@Zack_Zander I felt the same.
It got to me a bit even after reading the light novel. He really does come off as a good king and he earned my respect. I also like the subversion of having the short dumpy guy be the ideal leader over all the typical pretty or kingly looking people
_"I've lost interest."_
*from this line you know Ainz doesn't care anymore what happens to Re-Estize Kingdom next.
i love how every time Ainz is super angry at someone he just sends them to Neuronist lmao
@@LynnToledo
If they do ended up dying early, that doesn’t stop them from being revived to get tortured even further.
I noticed the armor hes wearing,
who ever wears that armor gain Bone Daddy a Respect.
@Cold
Yes, in the novel Zanac actually killed a couple of the nobles that try to take his head. So they wimp out and call for their soldiers for support, which made Zanac think “I must really be a bad king if they all feel the same as these nobles.”
It’s a shame that he had to die thinking that. Zanac really did have a lot of potential, he just had to deal with unfortunate circumstances beyond his control.
I'm more interested in the world building story rather than full on actions so I don't find this season boring.
Kinda sad, Alot of people love the world the author has created but it seems everyone involved wants to blow through it and end it.
agree! idc about the action either....
I didn’t realize how much I liked Zanac until this episode then he gets killed
It’s one of those things where you don’t realize what you had until it was taken away from you.
I don't think anyone liked him before this episode where we realized he wasn't a corrupt noble and he was a true hero
So true
This reminds of Roman History when the Ptolemy presented Pompei Magnus' head to Caesar. He also got mad and angry, even though Pompei and Caesar are enemies they still respected each other.
Or when Augustus was told of Antony’s death just because he’s your enemy does not mean you rejoice at their end

Yeah, he actually suits up and lead despite having little combat abilities.
This is one of the peak moments in Overlord. This episode made us respect a man who was introduced in earlier episode thinking that he is another throwaway side character. He even wish that his little sister survive and live a happy life with Climb. And also relief to know what was happen to his missing older brother
Isekai God should give him a better country and families that deserve him in the next life.
Amazing how Ainz's most human moment in the series will probably be followed up by the most inhuman
Yep
It won't, at least not directly. don't worry
@@thricereckless hey spoilers dude
@@GuyWhoWatchesStuff 😅 it's not. He won't personally kill people but that doesn't mean there won't be any battle 🤣
@@thricereckless well that is still genocide even if by proxy
Add kyouhoko nest
Also Gashokukochuuou(I had to look up his name in order to spell it right) because he’s essentially a giant worm that lays its eggs in people. The victims are kept alive, and possibly paralyzed, for as long as possible while being very slowly eaten alive by thousands of parasitic worms.
@@jacobjohnson8635 Doesn't he have levels in healing too so he can heal them back up? Jesus the supreme beings had some nasty roleplaying going on.
@GLaDOS
I don’t know if he has levels in healing, but Nazarick has plenty of healing scrolls. And yeah I’m sure even the Ainz Ooal Gown members would be mortified to see their creations come to life like this.
what i also like is the symbolism at 17:32
left: Zanac, the last king of the re estize kingdom, a human and a live horse
right: Ainz, the sorcerer kingdom, an Undead Overlord, soul eater undead horse
both side deeply cares and love their subject
2 butterfly on the bottom
the one on the left perched onto a dead trunk (lifeless, no hope, blight future)
the one on the right perched onto a growing branches with leaves (full of life, hopeful, bright future future)
Beautiful, I didn't make the connections
Also ainz wasn't confident in his horse riding skills. Soo he choose that undead tbh. No other deep thoughts
17:32? The vid only 15min
@@Kuribonker I think he meant the episode timestamp
When Ainz hold Aura's hand and told her that even if they want to die give them the slowest most painful death (something like that) i really felt it , like how enraged he was . And another thing , those filthy nobles didn't let Ainz keep his promise to Zanac . Ainz told him that he will give him a peaceful death but oh boi look what happened .
Really felt that part fr fr crunchyroll used it
That moment also gave me chills. The suffering that awaits those foolish men...
ngl it's becoming my new weekly routine now. i watched overlord new episode at night, i go to sleep, and wake up the next day in excitement to watch your weekly breakdown video
Same actor, different voices, btw.
Not 2 different actors. The VA is just that good at sounding different
The way Bone Daddy grabbed (I think Aura) and was like. "Even when they beg for death make sure it doesn't come quickly." It gave me chills a little. I've not had the opportunity to read the LN so am experiencing this through the Anime only so really appreciate these videos. Thanks man!
What if they cut the noble's tounge o.o will that prevent them from begging for death.
I feel like Zanac’s legacy will be very good in the Sorcerer Kingdom. The honorable last king of Re-Estize that was killed by his cowardly nobles.
The fact that even Zerconic can't remember the ninja class warrior's name shows that he's a pro at what he does, I'm excited to see the part he plays in the anime.
The voice acting of Ainz at the end. That growl-ish tone man. Actually feeling the rage that gives goosebumps
I remember Ainz saying something along the lines of "Don't kill them unless they beg for death, and even then make it as agonizing as possible." Those nobles honestly had it coming.
people are so spoiled on epic fights scenes from all these animes that they forgot how good a well made anime is, giving back stories and building up the world around the supporting characters,
Anime watches these days just want to see epic fight scenes every episode and if this is not given they lose interest just soo bad
Did you even read the novel??? to know what type of anime overlord is??????? holy crap bro, now wonder you know nothing about animes all you do is watch anime for the fight scenes LOL haha, bro just stop watching anime if that all your watching it for and go back to your IRL life LOL
you have no idea what good anime is even if it walked up to you and slap you in the face LOL
Was waiting for that bell Yeess
F for Zan he was the King who they needed but didn't deserve 😔 😪
I liked the episode. Was awesome to learn about these new characters. Just one thing that was hinted at but not explicitly said in this episode, that one man army blonde dude is the brother of a certain crazy lady named Clementine
makes sense, he looks just like her.
Honestly, Zanac deserved better and smarter nobles
Stopped caring about the people of the capital with this
I feel the same.
Yeah, they crammed a lot in this one. Hell they didn't even bother with the outro song.
@@dreadrath it's a sad and angry moment for viewers so bringing the outro will ruin the impact. So they didn't. But I agree with OP. That entire info about the mech was skipped was sad.

My personal theory ties in to the one you mentioned about 2 identitys because I think that ainz achualy is as smart as the npcs think but he does it all subconsciously as part of that second identity of the character he is
Loved how I just finished watching the EP and your review is right there for me! Very much enjoying these vids :)
love your positive outlook of the series that other content creators on just telling what something bad not understanding the circumstances of the studio and direction.
When ainz grabbed Aura out of nowhere to emphasize his desire to make those nobles suffer, was so impactful
Nazarick: lol no
Nobles: How about we try this again but with the prince’s head?
Of course it would go greatly.
Loved the episode and your analysis. Really gives this new and interesting “LAYER“. You know 👍
I absolutely love world building in anime especially when it doesn’t feel like it was half assed and there is actually some thoughts within the story I wish they showed more but I know not all anime can be like one piece and get a bunch of episodes
I look forward to your videos after each episode!

Zanac looking like a little kid on his horse as he was riding away was a great touch. Even though he looked cartoonish he was a true leader and worthy of being a king.
It is quite sad that the people that Ainz gets to admire are all doomed, often by his own hand.
Zanac really won a spot in my heart with this episode!
you have the best channel of Explaining overlord Anime... Direct to the point.,.... I subs and like!
I wish in the LN we got to see Zanny boy throw some sword swings at least so we could see it in the anime, damn shame he died off book/camera.
Hope he managed to kill at least one of those mercenaries. In fact since he was wearing Gazef's old armor and other gear, he probably did manage to at least wound one or two before going down despite not being a fighter. Plus he had his attendant backing him up, so maybe they did do a little damage.
Zanac killed some of them, but those nobles were so trash, they sent their soldiers, so zanac was unable to reach the nobles and only killed soldiers.
@@overlordthebest4249 Wow they are just rotten to the core
Waiting for episode 11 review. Great stuff as always!!!

i agree with your opinion bro this anime is about the world building and characters the politics 🔥🔥🔥ainz too cold in this episode
The same people probably hated all the talking scenes in Game of Thrones.
This episode was like a 9/10 for me.
Came for the power trip, stayed for the inner politics and affairs of a fantasy world

Let's goooo! Can't wait to watch this vid, love the content bro.
I still love Albedo's and Demiurge's reaction upon learning that it wasn't any scheming or some grand plan to mess with the Sorcerer Kingdom. It was just the plain stupidity of the noble class.
i loved the episode. I was about to start reading the LN but i guess i will read after this season
If i remember well, the Platinum Dragon Lord is the one that tells Azuth Aindra to use the "Rufus" name against the Theocracy.
I was so surprised when Ainz said he lost interest. It was a pretty strong moment for me
Love it and I am looking forward to the next episode.
