This is our 2nd episode from our Taiwan Street Food series. In today’s episode, we are focusing on Muslim-friendly, Halal Certified restaurants and food in Taipei. It can be difficult for travellers to find good quality Taiwanese food, or any food that is halal in Taiwan. We include an authentic Taiwanese beef noodle soup, an Indonesian meal in little Indonesia and an awesome fried chicken stall, all HALAL certified!
We start our day with delicious halal Taiwanese beef noodle - tender beef chunks and hand cut noodles in a rich broth, and beef dumplings, which are uncommon in Taiwan. We ordered their braised beef noodle with a red, oily broth and the beef dumplings were rich and juicy (130 NTD / USD $4.32 for beef noodles - 60 NTD / USD $1.99 for plate of dumplings). This restaurant is Halal Certified and there is also another halal restaurant next door.
Our next Muslim-friendly meal brought us close to Taipei Main Station, where you’ll find a neighbourhood called Little Indonesia. This is a network of small alleys full of Indonesian warungs serving up halal food with a Taiwanese twist. We went into the local restaurant which looked more like a home kitchen. We ordered one of our favorite dishes - Soto ayam, which is an Indonesian aromatic soup with chicken, vegetables and rice (150 NTD / USD $4.99). Although this shop (and likely many of the restaurants in the area) does not hold a Halal certification, we ensured with the chef that the food is indeed halal.
While digesting, we visited a sight which may be important to Muslim travellers coming to Taipei: Taipei Grand Mosque. This beautiful structure in the heart of Da’an neighbourhood was the first official mosque in the whole country. It features bronze domes and supposedly holds a market on Fridays.
Our final meal brought us to Shida District where we found a street food stall that serves Taiwanese fried chicken that is popular among locals, and is Halal Certified as well. We ordered a typical ji-pie (chicken steak) that is seasoned in typical Taiwanese spices. The chicken was juicy, flavourful and fried to perfection! The massive piece of chicken was 69 NTD (USD $2.29), and is enough for 2 people to share!

I’m an Indonesian muslim living in Taipei. FYI, not all Indonesian restaurants are certified halal. Some even cannot guarrantee the ingredients that they use. They think as long as there is no pork, they claim their products are halal. So sad about this, so be carefull my muslim friends :)
Thanks for the info
0:15 0:25 Do they still keep "Chinese" in the logo, or have they changed the name to "the Taiwanese Muslim Association" already? Do Muslims in Taiwan think they are Chinese? Thx

Do muslim ppl visits taiwan?
Hey, Luke and Sabrina. Thank you so much for this guide. This would definitely help me find Halal food in Taipei. Hopefully gonna get there soon. Be safe, and have great trips!
Hi Luke, thanks so much for posting this video - it is so helpful! As an avid muslim traveller, often it is a challenge to find halal food in non-muslim countries. Videos like this really make my life, and I'm sure many other muslim travellers' lives, so much easier. All the food looks absolutely delicious! As an Indonesian myself, I was unaware of how much Indonesia was represented in Taiwan.
I am on my Ramadhan fasting and I watch this channel. can't wait ifthar time! Thank's for your awsome Halal Taiwan Video!! Stay safe
I wish someday i can visit Taiwan, and try all the halal food restaurant in there

By you definition, there is no Japanese ramen since it was originated in China.
@Dennis Chu no Muslim population in Taiwan? What are you talking about...
Dennis Chu
1. Taiwan’s aboriginal population is Austronesian. The aboriginal people from Hawaii, the Philippines, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Madagascar are Austronesian people. The most adopted theory of the origin of Austronesian people is actually TAIWAN. At least check google or wiki. I don’t think Tsai would say Taiwanese aboriginals are from other places.
2. Tsai herself happens to be 1/4 aboriginal from her Paiwan grandmother.
3. Most people in Indonesia are Austronesian people. Indonesia is also the country with most Muslim population in the whole world. Also, there are about 275,000 Indonesian foreign workers in Taiwan in 2019. 10k Indonesian students studying in Taiwan.
4. Taiwan’s “local” Muslim population are mostly Chinese Muslims who came to Taiwan after 1949 with KMT. They are within the population of Chinese Mainlanders or Waisenren. The beef noodle shop is likely opened by someone with the background rather than Mainland Chinese who moved to Taiwan recently.
Great! I'll definitely have to check out that Halal beef noodle joint, looked awesome!
Taiwan is in our bucketlist too😍halal food is quite interesting and delicious too❤️

When I miss Taiwan, it is often a food memory that triggers the feeling. I love and miss Taiwan cuisine. Sharing a meal makes people like each other or as the feel closer with strong bond. Eating the same food leads to trust and cooperation because they feel closer with the feeling of intimacy among those eating together, share the experience with eating and drinking. Get away Corona Virus, I miss friends and family…
I love how you describe and review halal food in taiwan.. Thanks Luke Martin X)

Thank you guys for showing the Halal food sources in Taipei I love your channel I wish you all success hope you get million subscribers soon.
muslim area close maybe because off ramadan ... happy ramadan everyone ❤️
Yup. Most of muslim indonesians tend to close their food shop/vendor when it's ramadhan. Beside it's for Ramadhan it is also of course not worthy to sell when there is less seller.
Only few of these Indonesian Muslims that still open in the day. Some even 24 hour.
I love your videos and thank you for being so respectful and considerate about other people's faith. I'm a proud American Muslim!
Hi luke thanks for video and sharing us happiness with food 😀
Thank you for this! keep up with the good work :)
That's my favorite halal beef noodle soup place in Taipei. I had their noodles/beef dumplings 8 times in 2 weeks. I know, that's a bit much. At the same time their noodles were really good. Thank you for new ideas for my next trip.

Juste discovered your channel, amazing videos guys!
Ohhhh... Okee I will go to taipe. Love muslim have some special space here
We're growninly reminded in this aspect these years as we have more an more Indonesian workers here, and Taiwanese tends to go PC right that we should accept multiculture and respect these Muslims by helping them feel at home, rather than be descriminating... Well that doesn't mean every Taiwanese are kind, but mostly we tried to be nice and open 😅
Oooh! I haven’t been to any of those places! Next on my list! :)
Rachel Smisek wanna go together?
