Hiking the Ordesa Valley to Cola de Caballo waterfall

- Our Hike in the Ordesa Valley to the Cola de Caballo waterfall was an inredible experience. It is a glacial valley situated in Aragon, the Spanish Pyrenees which forms part of the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. It was first discovered in 1820, but not mapped in detail until approximately the 1920s. The valley is about 11k long. There are many stunning waterfalls along to route with the stunning Cola De Caballo at the far end of the valley.
During the summer months parking is restricted so you will need to catch a bus from Torla, they run every 15 mins. It is a very efficient service. There is a restaurant and toilet facilities at the start of the hike.
There are several routes but the main choice is whether to walk along the valley floor or a steep ascent to the right which we did. You need to be fit for the ascent, its up up up for a good hour! The route is very easy to follow but this is our route:

Wow that cascading waterfall was amazing. Beautiful shots. The yellow flowers on the hillside and snow cap mountains. Wow. 13 miles is a great walk. We can't do that anymore. We do travel videos too

Great rewatching this as we sit in Camping Rio Ara. Probably the best view of any campsite we’ve been to, and definitely the best we have taken our new Motorhome to.

Our Motorhome is only 6m so the bridge was no problem. We’ve been walking in Ordesa today but not as adventurous as you. But in my younger days I did walk from Ordesa to Gavarnie on the “other side”.

Love this video so much it's inspired us to tour the north East of Spain this June and lined up the walk after pinxos in san Sebastian. Also going to take in the picos de europa and do the cares gorge after seeing that vid as well. Not that we're stalking you at all.

I'm thinking of doing this trail but am not very confident as I feel I can only manage really easy flat terrain - wondering if I do the valley floor route both ways instead of going upwards like you did, whether that's easy? Any tough parts or slippery sections going the valley floor route which you guys took on the way back? Thanks! :)
Hi, the route we took back is the way most walk there and back, there’s an incline at parts near the beginning I would describe it as a prolonged upward section for 2-3 miles, it wasn’t slippery, the hike is quite long to the end but even if you don’t make it all the way there’s lots of stunning waterfalls along the way, cheers.. No toilets along the way unfortunately but theres plenty of tree and bush cover for the first half of the hike up there 😀 after this it becomes more open in the valley

Hi, the valley is very big so even if it’s a busy time I don’t think it will feel crowded, we didn’t visit the refuge but I believe you walk up the valley in the way so yes you will see the waterfalls including the big one at the end😀 cheers.. Andy&Michelle

Hi, we stayed at Camping Rio Ara, a nice site and closest to the town, the approach looks a bit intimating but it's not as bad as it looks, we did fine in a 7.5m Motorhome. Cheers...Andy&Michelle

Hi, it depends on which activities you are planning, in addition to the hike in the valley we did a day biking and a day climbing in Broto (although that could be done as a hike instead of a climb if preferred. So i'd say yes 3-4 nights depending on how many activities you are planning. When you do the hike in the valley I recommend catching an early bus if you don't have a car, it gets busy, Cheers...Andy&Michelle

High Eric, unfortunately there are signs saying no drones and that is the case for all of Spains National Parks. Its a really pity as I would have loved to fly here
