Fun fact: all of newjeans' MVs have been recorded in Barcelona and Catalonia. I live there and I literally recognize every spot. They even recorded on the same square my music school is at, i- 💀

And I love how she pointed out that from this first song they don't show the girls' full potential yet cuz that alone shows how much of stars they already are. that was a beautiful way to make a debut, I'm obsessed!

They have three pre-debut releases( Attention, Hurt and Hype Boy) and their debut song is called ‘Cookie’ (it’s kinda controversial atm tho bc of the lyrics)
The youngest (Hyein) is 14 and an 08 liner
The oldest (Minji) is 18 and an 04 liner.
All attention, hypeboy and cookie are title tracks of their 1st ep.

No they have 3 title tracks which are attention, hype boy and cookie. The pre debut release are only called that because they make their actual debut when the album drops. Cookie is just the last single off the album, it's a more westernised way of dropping songs.

Actually debuting as early as 14yo is quite common. I remember fx’s sulli and krystal debuted at 14. So as Shinee Taemin, Nct Jisung, Ive Wonyoung. Its just that its still bizarre to me theyre so young.
If i’m not mistaken Shinee’s Taemin and f(x)’s Crystal also debuted at age 14…. This is the freshest debut in recent years…not overtly cutesy or dark/girl crush type… perfectly in the middle… love the music

attention chorus really might be one of my favorites so far this year. idk what i was really expecting from this group but their debut -between the songs AND the concept/aesthetic is actually so good. but yeah, the member's ages range from 18 - 14... aside from making me feel ANCIENT, for the sake of the kids themselves i do wish companies would stop debuting people soooo young 😕 especially when some of lyrics (looking at 'cookie' specifically) are questionable lol

cookies is their official debut august 1st but they released attention, hype boy, and hurt before then. attention, hype boy, and cookie are all title tracks that are being promoted and hurt is the only bside!
Ah! It's so much fun to watch someone react the way I did. Attention is one of my songs of this summer and I also gasped when I heard those minor notes at the chorus. I was SO HAPPY when I could finally add it to my playlist of faves.

google is right caitlin! this debut did come out of no where to other people who weren’t following ! they did fully debut august 1st if i’m not mistaken ! two of the members did participate in song writing for two title tracks! one of the members (Danielle) participated in the writing of Attention, another member participated in the writing of Hype Boy (the song you reacted to in pt2) but i forgot which member 😭

in korea the birth rate is low, and this is also an issue in kpop industry (regeneration issue)..so that's why they debuted idols at such a young age, for agency long-term "investment"

It's weird to have them debut so young because even if it's called "debuting in a gg" it basically means "debuting in the job market" 😬 as a 14 yo I couldn't have had a job if my life depended on it lol
No shade to the girls though!! They seem very lovely and I'm super happy that hybe is taking this very unstructured/natural approach to the band. I want them to grow confident and healthy as a group and as people.
It’s a little funny to me that people keep saying ‘omg they’re SO young’ when Hanni, Minji, Danielle, Haerin are all 18-16 which is the usual debut age for both boys and girls.
Hyein is the only 14 year old and I wish people would stop acting like it’s the whole group. Also there’s a plethora of idols who debuted at the same age in the last 5 years but yet got none of them got the push back NJ are getting? And if they did it’s not as crazy as it is with them.
I’ve even seen people say it’s because NJ actually look and have a concept that matches their age whereas labels have an affinity for making other young girls look older to be able to do more mature concepts that wouldn’t be okay otherwise. NJ are one of the only ones to not do that and it’s insane that that’s backfiring on them.
Also I wonder is the push back also worse because those other 14 year olds were surrounded by people so much older than them that it was unnoticeable if you didn’t care enough? Yet with NJ it’s immediately noticeable that they are teenage girls.
