This thing has only one piston, less moving parts and less mechanical loss, higher theoretical efficiency. The air expands, pushes the piston, reaches the cool side it shrinks again and is sucked back to the hot part and the cycle continues. In fact it does not need an output shaft, it will resonate the piston.
