    J, I love watching you create...your attention to detail encourages me in my designs. I'm just starting out as an event florist with a home study course under my belt & I learn so much from you that just excites me. I was at a design show in Maryland last month with an English designer who said that the glue is available in Europe clear, however, because of the US standards, we cannot purchase it here or even order it for here...interesting. Thank you so much for going the extra miles & sharing your craft with us...Looking forward to more ideas & learning...blessings

    Thank you! I've watched several videos of people using HOT glue for fresh flowers and I thought, "Isn't that bad for the flower? Won't that make the fresh flower die sooner?" So, as soon as they started using hot glue, I exited the video. When I heard you say (at 5:26), "We have to remember to use cold glue. We never use hot glue....It's a bad idea." I was like, "Yes!" THANK YOU! You're the best!

    I was just wondering - how long could I expect a flower to last when it's done with glue? Should I make the corsage on the same day the corsage is needed or can I make it a day in advance? (sorry if this was mentioned in the video and I missed it!!)

    Great Video and Tips Re storage of the corsage once made. You said in a plastic bag in fridge. Would a Ziploc bag be OK and should the bag be sealed? Any particular area of the fridge? Again, best video I have found for making very updated corsages!

    • @LifeinBloom
      @LifeinBloom  Před 8 lety +2

      +Rebecca Elliott Yes... A Ziploc bag would work nicely... be sure that it's large enough... so that it won't damage the flowers... I also use a straw an breath air into the bag so that it won't lay on the flowers... as far as location in your refrigerator... I suggest on a shelf and not in a drawer... and definitely NOT in the FREEZER!!! Temperature should be about 34-38 degrees... Thanks for the great question!!

    Question for you! I have always done the horribly time-consuming wire and tape method. Does this really hold up for 'heavier' flowers like roses? This is for wildly dancing teenagers at a winter formal, and I've experimented with great success using oasis cold glue and lighter flowers, like hellebore and hydrangeas, but I am worried about the heads being too heavy. I like to glue mine not to a plastic disc on a bracelet, but onto the ribbon like you did with the green one. Thank you! PS- your video is very good, one of the best I've seen.

    • @LifeinBloom
      @LifeinBloom  Před 8 lety +2

      +Deborah McLaughlin - Hi Deborah... yes it works well with roses too... be sure to use enough glue and place it on both the rose and the area where you will place it in the corsage... allow the two areas to set up for a few moments (about 15-30 second) and place the flower... for larger heads... it's a good idea to have them attach to something more secure than the ribbon... depending on the length and give of the ribbon... the rose may flop around... not that it would come off... especially if you have used enough glue... but you want the attachment to be secure! Thanks for the question... practice and experiment... that will give you the confidence level you need!!! All the BEST!

    • @LifeinBloom
      @LifeinBloom  Před 7 lety

      The secret is to use enough glue and place it on both the flower and the ribbon... this will secure it ...
      Again... don't be shy with the glue... using more for heavier heads is KEY!

    @rebeccaelliott1713 Před 8 lety

    Thank you for answering my question. Very helfpful! I have one more question- I used the glue that you suggested and when it dried it was yellow. Did I purchase the wrong one? Maybe there is a clear drying of the same brand....

    • @LifeinBloom
      @LifeinBloom  Před 8 lety +1

      +Rebecca Elliott No... the glue is a translucent yellow... just like rubber cement... so you want to be careful that there is no exposed glue... unfortunately the ingredients in the glue DO NOT allow for it to be clear... so you need to be sure that you are covering your mechanics... and concealing the glue with flowers or foliage!

  • @weddingstoitaly
    @weddingstoitaly Před 6 lety

    Oh thank you so much! So I can do the headpiece for the bride and they will hold all day without water?

    • @LifeinBloom
      @LifeinBloom  Před 6 lety

      You can make the Headpiece and do all the construction work... but NO Guarantee on Holding all day... as there are variables... They Could Last all Day... if the Weather is NICE... if it's VERY HOT... or If the Bride is active and running, dancing, and playing with the headpiece and continually touching or messing with it... it won't last...
      I say this because there are no guarantees... when other variables are involved.. if the day is cool and the bride is calm and leaves the headpiece alone.... and is does not overdo or becomes hot... then yes... but all these come into play when it comes to human interaction with flowers! hehehe!

    Where can find the cold glue?

  • @LifeinBloom
    @LifeinBloom  Před 11 lety

    The Problem with Hot Glue is that anytime a Flower is subjected to heat over 100 degrees it begins to break down the cell structure of the flowers and botritis can attack the flower. Heat Is NEVER Good For Flowers... and dipping a flower into HOT Glue does not help it last longer. Cold Glue (while a bit messy at first) IS much better for the flower... providing better holding properties (in and out of the cooler) and does not stress the Flower! While Hot Glue may Work ok...IT is not BETTER!

    • @LifeinBloom

      Certainly... the biggest issue with orchids is that they are fresh- so be sure you're supplier is offering the best orchids... and that they are super fresh... using the Chrysal Professional Glory will also help them hold... to keep them super white... wet your hands and fingers when handling and gluing the orchids in place... this will prevent your finger tips from bruising the orchids...

      Thanks for the great question... I always suggest creating REAL SAMPLES of the items you would like your customers to buy- because it is true- they need to see it in real life... the great thing about Flowers to wear is that they are small - and you can create a sample to show them...
      You can indeed glue the larger Roses- it's all about using enough glue and having a structure that you can glue to... I have glued many LARGE Roses into corsages and even boutonnieres and pocket squares... where there is a will- there is a way...
      Create the things you want to sell- and show them to your customers... that way they can see and appreciate them... and even add their own creative colors, themes or ideas...

    I’ve found the glue to be too toxic smelling.Time saving didn’t seem to be true, waiting for the flowers to hold onto the bracelet was aggravating.

      Sorry to hear that Jane... the smell from the Acetone is part of what allows the glue to hold... the same as Rubber Cement... the smell will not remain- and I always suggest creating in a well ventilated area...
      As will rubber cement... placing glue in both locations - On the Flower and on the Corsage Structure and then allowing both to dry for about 1 minute before placing together... makes for better adhesion...
      Again... Every idea is NOT for everyone... I know that many people love the gluing technique and others remain steadfast in their dedication to taping and wiring...
      The Fact I can share is that Glued Corsages- when created with Cold Adhesive (NOT hot glue)... do last about 40% longer than traditional wire and tape...
      I also know that practice of any technique is key... it's NEVER Faster the first time you try... it's about building up experience- and getting better at a process...
      There are advantages to all processes... Thanks for sharing your experience... I appreciate it very much!

    has anyone compared pan melted hot glue to the cold glue. i have been using the hot glue for many years never have problems. I have tried cold glue and feel so much more messier than pan hot glue

      My advise David.. never use a hot or even Low temp glue gun... as the heat of the glue begins to break down the cell structure of the flowers.. causing botrytis and flowers may fall off... Hot Glue and Fresh Flowers is never a good idea... the Rubber cement type glue is much better for the flowers as it allows them to stay fresh... for Silk Flowers hot glue may be ok... but never Fresh!
