    I'm so grateful for a Tai Chi video I can actually learn from. For some reason, European/western practitioners always do it wrong, moving extremely fast. I even tried a Tai Chi school in my town and sure enough, they blast through it at high speed. This is beautiful, what the essence of the self-cultivation & the Tao is really about.

      Yes, he is the embodiment of moving meditation that most masters talk about in theory. His legs power is something we can be envious. Without the lower part body strength, the upper will collapse... just like our house. Foundation is the key.
      I just do not like the shape of the fingers. My natural fingers shape not like chicken feet shape. Maybe that is his natural form. If I follow exactly, my fingers will be arthritic after a year!

    It would be wonderful if there was a demonstration of this Wudang 108 with simultaneous front and BACK view so I could follow it and practice and learn it by constant repetition over time. In the last few years I learn yang, Chen, Wu and sun by watching back views. If there was detailed instruction that would even add more value and create a unique video since I can’t find a back view version on you tube or amazon. I would be willing to pay for a dvd in English that accomplished this task. All the other forms have back view on You tube.
    It’s very difficult to learn from front view because all movements are the mirror image. Your form is great and i would love to practice it by watching you daily as I do my other tai chi’s. I’m 74 and my purpose in life is to maintain my body as long as possible knowing its a difficult effort at my age but I’m determined.

    • @malmess2164
      @malmess2164 Před rokem

      Ce n'est peut-être pas la quantité de formes apprises qui aide à une meilleure longévité, mais la profondeur où on va dans une forme et tout ce que cela dérange chez nous, qui amène une remise en cause de nos vérités et habitudes.

    • @nkos918
      @nkos918 Před rokem

      While you are correct that concentration on one form is important, I found from just daily repetitive practice that all the practices have a similar end point that is a focused awareness of your body and how you balance yourself as you move through space through each movement. So while each style is different, they appear to me to be similar.
      Unfortunately I have no external teacher and just focus on following the demonstrator or sifu on you tube as closely as possible trying to emulate their every step exactly, even watching how they place their feet on the ground - heel, toe first.
      Admittedly without a teacher guiding and evaluating me I am limited. I let god guide me

      I understand and appreciate your point; I do the various tai chi and T Y. Pang’s authentic Pa kua late at night as a form of mental relaxation and meditation . It’s very difficult for me to schedule “classes” during the day.
      at this stage of life god directs me good or bad. It’s not a question of difficulty but rather intent for me. I practice over 75 minutes daily with my own preferred music to soften and focus my spirit.
      My intent is to just follow the sifu as best as possible and I never do my tai chi and ty pang’s unique pakua without following the preferred demonstrator.
      The key for me is to try to remain in complete balance and flow with the movements done slowly and sense the alterations in the distribution of my body weight as I twist and turn. Many of the movements involved circularity. For me there is nothing to gain or lose. I’m not competing with anyone; only with gravity and my bodily limitations. I try to remain as fluid as possible and approach it like a continuous movement from one step to another like a ballet dance.
      My goal at my age (mid 70’s) is to maintain my muscles and joints functioning as long as possible and to enjoy the fluidity of the movements. However I understand and accept your points.
      Ps I also slow jog/trot 5.5 miles almost daily including a 150 ft hill climb in all sorts of weather for the same rationale. I have been jogging/trotting for 17 years now.

    It is a very beautiful demonstration indeed, thank you for the upload.
    Just one question occured to me during watching. What really disturbed me were his feet. He seems to correct his stance with many staggering motions. For me at least it broke the flow of the movement since it looked like he made multiple corrective movements instead of one steady motion. However I do not know this particular form and I'm an absolut beginner. Therefore my question: Are you supposed to shift your feet in that way?
    I'm currently learning the Wudang Xuanwupai 64 Taiji form. Most likely I lack insight and only therefore his foot movement seems unfluent to me in comparison with Master Tian for example.
    Hopefully someone can explain it to me, thank you in advance :)

      @michaelweichhardt  Před 8 lety

      I think i saw some positions! I recorded this video and first it was very cold - so yes the body feels stiffer and cold. Making weight adjustments difficult. His footwork shown here is not as good as on the other videos.

    • @slathas
      @slathas Před 8 lety +1

      Hi,
      thank you for the reply, sorry that I'm so late to answer.
      And yeah, I should have posted some time stamps :D
      Three moments would be: 08:38-08:41, 09:01-09:15 und 24:56-25:07
      An additional thing I noticed, at 29:20-29:26 for example, is that he seems to shift his weight before he puts down his left foot completely, hence giving the impressions of falling into the step instead of putting his foot completely down and then shifting his weight. Even though I've seen this in multiple videos I was irritated because we are told to first set down our foot, secure a stable stance and only after that we are to shift our weight, but that might just be a difference of style or it's something that becomes less important when you're doing taiji for mre than 20 years :D
      And yes I could imagine that the cold might have played a part, otherwise the execution is extremely beautiful from what I can tell :)

    • @michaelweichhardt
      @michaelweichhardt  Před 8 lety +3

      Master Chen Shiyu is simply sometimes easygoing...and the weather condition was not the best - im not sure if I could have done the same - my fingers almost froze while holding the cam. I also do believe that master chen shiyu favors a natural flow over perfection.

      i have watched several times; my perception is that he adjusts due to bad footing of the ground ... adjusting to a rock or clump of grass is required or was by my teachers ... solid rooting on uneven ground is what i see. The root must be correct for energy to flow from earth thru dantien to fingers that is what is going on ... adjustment to root not corrective movement imo peace for all beings.

      No, it's the number of postures contained in the form.

      Research on their website for info.

      @@kenmesa8435 It is actually the sequence of Yang Cheng Fu (Yang Style 108) but performed with a lot of embellishments. Nice movement and very well connected!

    • @thapeloheath
      @thapeloheath Před 7 lety +2

      Not sure what sort of face you'd expect, although tbh i've found my resting face replaced by beaming a weirdly cherubic/silly smile 'randomly' in the middle of a sequence on a few occasions.

    why so slow?

    • @thapeloheath
      @thapeloheath Před 7 lety +11

      Fast movement requires far less communication between the motor cortex and the muscles that do the work. Slow trains neuromuscular specificity usable at any speed upon demand.
