In this Erebus Ascent review video, I analyze the newest release from Jody at Just One More Watch. Their first watch, the Erebus Origin, was far from perfect. Is this new line of watches any better?

How we work with brands: bit.ly/HowWeWorkWithBrands - Jak na to + styl
Following the bracelet critique, Erebus has now adjusted both bracelet styles to fit a wider variety of wrists; these shouldn't be an issue for smaller arms moving forward! That's a brand that acts on feedback, folks! 👏
Will the O style end link be improved by being shorter?
Yea the O-style that just tries to look like a Oyster bracelet from rolex and the J-style that looks like a Jubilee bracelet from rolex this brand is lazy and just copied other brand and don't even try to hide it lol
Ben! Thank you so much for the review mate! It brought a tear to my eye... So happy that you liked it. All the best, Jody
Are you saying you’re a cyclops Jody? 👁🤣🤭
pretty easy to generate an affiliate link for ben, right ?! Kappa
Jody! Any comments regarding Ben's point on the J-style bracelet on small wrists or that it lacks some fluidity against the end link? Great watch, I can't wait to get my black helix!
Id love to have it on J style bracelet but the lack of adjustment is no good.
Feekin shite just because it jody you kissing her A$$
Insta-ordered the bone white and black helix Ascents after the debut video hit. Monstrous value here. In fact it totally resets the bar for all microbrands. The only complaint is purely atmospheric in the sense that the Origin and Ascent do not (yet?) reflect a brand identity for Erebus. They don't visually relate to one another whatsoever. But, we're still early in the game and what they do bring is Jody's extensive catalog of evaluations distilled into a single "best of all worlds" choice for value-seekers. The black dial is the new Sarb for the masses... it really does it all. So I guess in that sense I wanted to own it for the simple reason that the Ascent is the distillation of everything us CZcams watch geeks have been nitpicking over for so many years and finally reached a new world-beating price/performance baseline created by one of our own. Baby Grand Seiko... with lume? Yes please! That bone white enamel really is gorgeous.
I didn't mind the Origin. I liked the tooly design and the variety of dial colors. The Ascent however is on a different level for a different type of guy. If the Origin was for the soldier's then this Ascent is the officers watch. None better than the other but made for different roles.
Great analogy with the soldier/officer's watch! I too do not mind Origin's design at all. In fact I love it more than a lot of the other microbrand offerings of a more modern dive watch design because it is just so sterile and tooly. I love the Pelagos' look so the Origin looks fantastic to me.
@@johnnychin Thank you! Yeah I like it too! I thinks its a great watch!
One is more ruged and reminds of the tudor pelagos and the other more elegant and reminds of the omega seamaster aqua terra.
@@kosmas173 I can sorta see what you mean! They do have resemblances!
I think this watch looks absolutely beautiful. It's like a GS and an Aqua Terra was tag-teaming a discontinued 39mm OP on a balcony under a St. Tropez sunset, and all their love-juices just merged together around a Miyota movement. Definitely looks like incredible value for money. I'm debating white dial with a J bracelet. 🤩
Love your honesty with these Ben. Also, the macro shots are great. These dials really pop.
But look sooooo boring 🥱🥱🥱
Glad my faith was not misplaced on this one! I passed on the Origin, only because I'm really not a dive-watch guy. But I "dove" into the pre-sale on this because on the surface it is exactly what I like. I picked the green helix, so it was nice to see some footage of it here. Fingers crossed that I'm still of the same mind as you after I receive it!
I'm excited to get my Ascent(s), I have a blue enamel and green fumé on order. I thought you were a little harsh on the design of the Origin... it wasn't supposed to be fancy or groundbreaking, it was supposed to be an ultra readable tool diver with excellent specs for the money, and it accomplished that handily. The hands and markers on it are a very original design and I quite like the geometry of them.
Let's go, always hyped for nev vids!
how in the world did u comment 3 days before???? 😂😂😂
@@Bluey016 I'm a time traveler ;)

Really great review Ben. Stunning videography and great description.
Congrats on 200k, Ben!
Ordered the Orange Fumé on day one. Have a black Ostrich strap waiting for it.
Thank you for your review!
The orange fume is a KILLER! When I saw it in sunlight in Jody's video I started salivating. Perfect summer watch!
Good honest look at the Ascent. I ordered the Green Helix version and great to see your shots of it and get your thoughts. I think it will sell well for them.
These look great! So many dial choices. Thanks for the review!
Mate I honestly thought he should have produced a sports watch first, this looks outstanding, totally agree 😎👍
This! Ben, make your own watch brand for us small wristed folks!
Already ordered mine with the aventurine dial. Can't wait. Thanks again☮️
I am considering the malachite dial, that or the green helix 👍
Great review Ben!
Wonderful review, i love those smaller brands giving us some real cold watches for really competitive prices !
Great honest review Ben. Your review has confirmed my choice. Cheers
Great video and thanks for drawing attention to the J style bracelet for the smaller wristed. When I saw the launch video I was ready to jump on the Malachite dial but all the reviewers seems to be skeptical or not bonding with it. I like several of the other dials but my second choice would have been purple but I have two purple dial watches already so a bit on the fence now.
Awesome dial shots! I wish you got more colors as I STILL haven't decided on a dial. For a true GADA, I want one of the enamel dials. Since I have black and blue, I am leaning the white enamel dial as like the black dial will truly go with anything...
Yep... all good points. This is totally up my alley. My main daily watches are in the similar ballpark. The Aqua Terra is currently probably my grail, though I don't wear my current premium watches enough to justify the cost. My San Martin AQ homage is probably my #1 for a true daily, followed by the Wise Adamascus, Cincinnati Cincinnatus and either the SWC Bunker or a Squale for more sporty times. I also really like the SARB033 and love most Grand Seikos. I ordered the white enamel on the J-style and honestly, I can see it potentially becoming my #1. My biggest criticism is the font used for the 'Ascent' logo and that is a VERY minor criticism.
Good looking watch! Thanks for the heads up video...
I was one of many folks who were unimpressed with the Origin. But damn, as time goes on that thing is actually looking pretty smooth.
Was happy that you called dull on the origin. Would be in my sights if I wast trying to break into a higher tier for my next
Awesome title! Can’t wait to watch.
Its a lovely looking watch but my main gripe is it isn"t going to be around £300 it'll be closer to £400 - £450 with import taxes into the UK. I know Jody has no say over that but its still a big extra chunk of money.
20% should make the cheapest come in around £340 ?
@@skuda9 £377 with postage, Unfortunately I don't want the cheap one
Me too, it'll hurt a bit to pay the UK duty/VAT but unavoidable.
I agree, it moves it out of my budget tbh, which is a shame because if I was American I would definitely be ordering one
Even at the discounted price it still comes in at €500 delivered including tax. That's a big ol' noperino from me.
Do you have a few names of dress sport reasonbably sized watches better for that price (or close) ?
@@K0tak3 Tsuyosa (both old one and new one), PRX Quartz
@@milqn4o Yes ok, nothing like it then. Tsuyosa is big and bulky and far from that class. For smaller range of wrists it's just BIG.
And quartz is quartz, apple and oranges...
I agree with your point of the fees, if they could have a way to sell directly within EU and skip vat for final Price at 350€ it would make it unavoidable.
But even with a seller here I think they couldn't avoid VAT and would need to sell for at least 450.
But for 500, you have nothing better and not really many either close to that watch. I prefer for sure this to a tsuyosa that I tried.
@@milqn4o No.
@@K0tak3 san Martin SN0113W V2. 38” case. Automatic. High finishing standard. A beauty … @ £197 .
Thanks for the video. Your comments are spot on. I too found the intiial Erebus diver watches a bit pedestrian looking. These Ascent models however, look very nice and I actually want to own one.
I really like The Orange Fumé one
I went for the Malachite as I couldn't really see the green swirly as different (although I may have pulled the trigger too soon). I hope mine is unique though. . green is my favorite color anyway. As to your take on the Origin, I don't think your off base; it's like a thinner and lighter Helm Vanuatu - and for that I like it a lot!
Excellent review I am a fan of the erebus watches and own a few of both models (waiting on my ascents) but I appreciate your detailed review and frank honesty, and this is what made me subscribe. Keep up the great reviews.
Damn it Ben, I had narrowed my choice down to either orange fume or white enamel but now you slid that purple sunburst back into the running. 😎 Great review and I agree fully - the Origin did nothing for me but this I really like as a responsible man's Aqua Terra alternative. I could afford an Omega but spending that much money for something that I would then just stress over damaging makes no sense when something looks this nice for less than 10% of the price.
Lovely! I hope Jody brings out a white fumeé. I’ll definitely buy that!
I think they look great! I'll have to get one, thanks for the review!
Finishing is very impressive
A top review Ben. It includes the really useful stuff that some reviewers miss. I can't justify this watch but that does not stop me wanting one.
Nice review 😃
Very fair review of what look like good watches. I'd like to see them on straps to see how they work with the dial colours (I'm one of those odd people who don't like bracelets).
Hello Ben, I disagree with your point about the Origin being uninspired, but not theAscent. In fact, I think the opposite. The ascent looks like a mix of a Seiko SARB and an Omega Aqua Terra. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact, if it was all brushed I would have bought one.
Great review and agree with all your comments. I really like this new model and ordered the green fume on the 'O' (oyster) bracelet. The Origin did nothing for me at all, although think it was probably well made and fantastic value, I'm not really a dive watch fan.
I’ve preordered the purple fumé sunburst, on o style with black leather strap pack. My second choice which I still may add is the white enamel on j style :)
I've been thinking seriously about the Ascent but not able to make up my mind. You review has helped me decide and I thank you for that, Jody.
The Helix dial is stellar. Has definite nods to GS. Very tempted to pull the trigger on this release. The enamel dials give off Sarb vibes,
Really digging that green dial.
i have opted for the purple fume with the oyster and jubilee bracelet. hoping its a as great as it appears
I appreciate your truthful and honest review. I am sure your criticism aided in getting us this watch. You are why I am now confident that I should consider buying one. I always watch your reviews last. To give you the final word
That macro pan shot of the polished sides looks like they polished a rough surface. Must be a factor of being pre production, but I would imagine they would have made sure that was perfect. Definitely a GS Evo9 esk case design without the Zeratsu polish.
I bought Aventurine one! Little flamboyant for a GADA watch but I always wanted a aventurine dial and a GADA watch so this was a hit! Hope it turns out great 🤞🏻
The Green Helix dial was absolutely stunning 👌
When will any CZcamsr get their hands on the green fumé? I put my money on that one already
dave from just the watch got the green fume on his review
czcams.com/video/h10F2AwfVNQ/video.htmlsi=l0DZ1PZJX_URBTFm
@@Grefareal Great, thanks. I'll check his out
The watch looks good and all, I just don't think it really fills any need that the market is missing. Most of his viewers already have collections, and these just seem like alternatives to the same aliexpress brands he reviews. Wish he could get a little more wild with them and do something unique.
These look absolutely amazing!
It is a great looking watch. Can’t wait for mine to arrive
What all reviews fail to mention is that it's a Chinese manufactured watch. It looks nice, and has good finishing. The movement is made in China so goodness knows how long that will last? Isn't really just another Chinese watch? A good review, and I agree the crown is a tad over sized. The watch looks great and would be nice to have one, but to spend over $400 AU plus on a Chinese watch it's hard to justify.
Why doesn't Ben point this out when it's his favourite thing to do. Really disappointed with his review.
In honour of the Erebus name they should have made one with the total black dial.
There is one with a black dial
That actually is an excellent idea. Jody could charge a little more for a Musou black dial and I will be getting one. AFAIK there are no Musou black dial watches that are in this form factor and case shape. The Venezianico Redentore has those crown guards that kind of take away the elegance simplicity of an ultra black dial.
I have ordered the Malachite on the J-link - believe it to be one of the more striking variants :)
Gutted about the sizing issue with the j style bracelet! That was my preferred option but I have a 6 inch wrist so that’s a deal breaker. Jody even stated the j style was better for small wrists due to the male end links on the o style 🙄
Glad I waited for your review before ordering as I wanted to see how it wears on a small wrist 👍🏻
Good honest review of a very nice watch. I would consider the white dial version if it were 40mm. As for your comments re the Origin, you are 100% correct, if anyone other than Jody produced it, it would of got roasted as it is a very ordinary looking watch albeit well specced. Anyway the Ascent looks the goods and well done to Jody and Steven.
the green helix is the best looking imo. Great watches and review. thank you
The Erebus line looks incredible. Little out of my price range right now (Just bought another $350 watch lol) but likely will grab one when possible
I was hoping another video might help me lock in a decision on which dial to get, but I'm still just as indecisive. Great review!
Random person on the internet says: Green Helix
Other random person says blue helix except I’m going with the white enamel. That’s literally the only criticism I have of the watch which is there are too many choices. I think it devalues it a little bit. But it’s brilliant otherwise.
Another random internet person loves the purple fumeé!
I want all 4: orange, purple fumee, green fumee, black enamel.
@@ae-ca602 I was down to orange, blue helix, and white. I’m going to go safe and go white on the j style.
While watching this video I was comparing the look with the watch on my wrist...and the same Seiko5 (albeit in a different colour) pops up in the video :)
If I'm honest, a big factor in buying the Origin was to support Jody's new venture (I'm not a huge fan of modern divers) but it's definitely grown on me - still more tooly than I'd like but with just enough flourishes to find its way to my wrist. By contrast, the Ascent had me at hello
Definitely on my "top watches to buy when I have the money" list. Thanks for the excellent, thorough review - as usual.
That finishing 😮💨😮💨😮💨 beautiful
Almost want to place my order, but it’s a pity my wrist is only 5.9 inches, the jubilee bracelet will be too loose for me. Thanks for the review.
I have a set of EFFY jewelry that would look epic with the malachite dial.
The issue with malachite is that you could get unlucky and get a bland pattern. It's the equivalent of going for a Timascus case watch without a single star.
I'd love this in Pink or Turquoise.
Thanks for calling our the bracelet fitting. I have the same size wrist and was looking at the Blue Helix on J style bracelet. Disappointed that it may be loose on my wrist :(
I think Jody and Steven have really smashed this out of the park. 12 different dials with 2 different straps makes for an amazing 24 different watch combinations. A lot more than some major manufacturers offer and at far better prices.
The Citizen owned Miyota 9015 with 8 bps , 28800 bph, will give this watch a touch of class, more of a sweeping second hand than ticking with an NH35 movement and like you stated is well worth the extra money.
I never ordered the highly anticipated Origin model as it just didn’t do it for me. This though has driven me mad.
All those dial choices, so many. I have changed my order 3 times already! Finally settling on the Black Enamel, a throw back to owning a SARB 033, which I rather stupidly sold for nothing, and also opting for the Blue Helix.
I can see Jody and Steven selling this model in the thousands, which for a microbrand is a phenomenal testimony to their ideas and design.
Bring on September!
Just wish it had a display case back option, like some companies give.
the white gives me grand seiko vibes!
These look pretty awesome. I think that white one would look amazing with a blue second hand. The green one would look even better with gold hands and indicee. That purple is amazing.
I like the purple one - just one more watch - great video thank you
Awesome review, as always! That purple is dope! Can I has it?😁😁😁
Whats your opinion on Vaer watches?
It was actualy Wise watches this reminded me of the most, the first release never grabbed me this one does.
agreed
Babe, wake up. Ben's Watch Club uploaded.
Spot on, sir. Spot on.
Well, I was on the fence.... but this video helped convince me. Just ordered the purple. Thanks for contributing to my addiction. XD
The purple is beautiful
Love the green dial
Adventerous one here. I've always wanted a malachite dial watch so to see one under $500 has me strongly considering it for my next purchase.
These look great!
Nice looking watch. Just wish there was an exhibition caseback.
I've been really tempted by this, it looks remarkably good value for money.
Reminds me of the Casio Edifice EFV 100D
Oh good--it won't fit my tiny wrist, so I do not have to be hugely tempted to buy this one! I like it way more than the first watch from them, for all the reasons you mentioned!
Great video Ben. Congrats on 200k subs. a great achievement. Ive just landed in York so see you later I guess.
Cheers Tony, yes see you very soon, glad you're coming tomorrow!
We can always trust in you to keep it real mate. Another great review. I agree, this piece is much better than the first model.
I am now at a cross road, trying to decide between this on the black enamel and the CW C63 Sealander 39mm in black. 🤔
I totally agree with you that the diver was not a home run but this new release from EB looks like a banger.
Hey Ben do a solar watch list for under 300 but without the Bluetooth.
Vario got mentioned in the video and they're coming up with one soon.
That Malachite one is gorgeous. Definitely hope it is not going to sell out soon so I can set some money aside to buy it
Please review the Casio MTP-1183 in blue! I haven't seen a good review anywhere
I picked blue enamel w/jstyle. Was a tough decision though !!
These look really nice... Exactly the sort of style and design ideas I like to see, sporty without being either boring or too much like a copy of something else.
Don't think I'm likely to be buying, given I already have a couple of watches in a similar enough mould which are a bit nicer (an Eterna and a Formex) both of which run within a couple of seconds a day.
love the dials but too small
Hope they would release their version of integrated bracelet
