Many many years ago when these were new Dad run one of these day in and day out. I showed him this clip and it made him smile.
I got dad back in a dozer for the first time in 30y on a pond I was digging a year ago. I'm an excavator guy not a dozer guy. He was on site half a day in a Komatsu 65 and next thing he's telling me I'm doing it wrong lol and we should dig the hole with the dozer and pull it out with the digger. He was having so much fun I figured I'd humor him. Fuck me did he show me a thing or two. We moved 5000 cubic yards in three days. I was very happy. Made good money on that job.
Since then dad regularly runs the dozer for me and loves it. Well in his 70's and not past his used by date yet.

Man, I love hearin stuff like that! I’m sure that also put more mileage in pop’s tank as well. When operating is in your blood, you feel alive when on a piece of equipment 💪🏽😎

@@brianallen8091 This season dad now 76 was running a Komatsu 65-17 for me. For 3 weeks straight doing 10hr days. It was a wet site dealing with this awful volcanic ash.
So we are driving home and dad goes "you know I don't think that's a good machine for guys to learn in."
      Me " whys that?"
Dad " You could get yourself in real trouble with a machine like that, you can't get stuck."
Me "burst out laughing. You've fucked it now, I'll be digging you out by morning smoko"
He lasted till 9:00 am. You never say shit like that out loud. That said he didn't burry it and I had him out in a few minuets.
I think he has a point though this new gear with all its traction control etc can give you a sense of false security. What he was doing day in and day out impressed the hell out of me. No way could I walk the digger to the end of the tip head. That 65 was burred half way up the track frame for days on end.
I get dad in the bulldozer every chance I can. He loves it. Being on site with the guys and showing his grandson how use the bully was probably the high light for him. He had my boy (14) going pretty good by the end of that job too.
Who else loves the smell of topsoil and old school diesel exhaust? Or am I just odd?

It doesn't look like she's in bad shape to me...although we've had several -40 and -40B's ...just a little down on grousers - if anything, I think she'd rev another five hundred rpm...and in a 'droit, that's hug - all the torque is clear up against the governor. But, all in all, a really nice, straight 82-40...in really nice shape, you should be proud of her!

I think the 8'V is doing a fine job and let the coal roll! I always had to relearn a Case every morning. Too many ways to do the same thing but they'll do the job! Good video!

Watching that reminded me why I never like a terex. Looked like it had a hard time turning the tracks under a heavy load. They always sounded like they were pushing when they won't . Knew a guy that had one. And a D7k cat. The cat was pushing 3 loads to the terexs one. The guy that had sold it to some dude out of Alabama. That dude acted like a kid with a new toy at Christmas time. The gentleman that sold it was so glad to get rid of it. He went and bought two more d7s. That was a very good investment. 😀👍

The 8240 what a beast. The blade control was power up power down, if I remember correctly there's no free fall on it. I've pushed way to many ts14 and ts24's than I can count. Having the radiator in the rear made a difference in keeping dust/sand for blowing back into the operator eyes. I hated the color though LOL 😀 😀.

I don’t know that much about building ponds but the people in this video have been doing this sort of stuff their whole life, one of them is over 70 so I think you could say he has some experience building ponds. This was being built through some program that helps pay for a percentage of it. It had to be looked at by some guy from the state so it had to be done right. If reading books is all you’ve done then maybe you should go out in the real world and learn something.

Man ! That GM 8V-71 is burning excessive fuel,. .if you go by the smoke from that stack. An 82-40 in good tune will only do that when it first encounters the load as the governor takes over. That's waaay too smokey,..just look at the valley !
If it's not dirty air filters then get those injectors re-built.

    Were these dozers Hydraulically driven?

    • @regsparkes6507
      @regsparkes6507 Před 8 lety +3

      +James Pendergrass
No, not really, they were equipped with Allison transmissions. These Terex crawler-dozers were built by General Motors back then. So engines, transmissions frame, body work all came from GM plants.
These were really great working machines back in the 1970's when GM made all the Terex equipment line of earth movers.
This one's engine is cryin' out for service; I say from that black smoke, the fuel delivery system is in need of re-build.
