I rode in these things more times than I care to remember while still serving. They would go just about anywhere including crossing a lake but damn they had a rough ride! I can't believe i don't have kidney problems after all those years of being bouncd and jarred around.

When you say across a lake I imagine it working like the ducks of world war 2 is my imagination pretty close or was it slightly different just because it's obviously not a duck lol

He had to take it easy because of the people in the bed. If he'd hit it hard and with some momentum he would have made it up without even trying. Back in 87-88 we had one in my unit's (HHB XVIII Abn Corps Arty) motor pool, we usually used it as the staff duty vehicle because it would go places nothing else could. At the time we hadn't gotten humvees yet, but not even they could go everywhere the gamma goat did. Very maintenance intensive, though! And good for playing newby pranks, telling them they had to go feed the gamma goat in the motor pool at 0500 on weekends LOL

My grandpa bought a 555E backhoe years back .... the maintenance guy was there working on it after a few months and my grandpa told him... "I really like it except for this sticker here.... says I've gotta grease it every 8 hours which is a real pain" .... the mechanic exclaims "thats only if you are using it!"... my grandpa and great uncle just smiled and nodded heh.

@Spelunker0211 Tell me a vehicle that you could put 1500lbs or more in a trailer and make it up a hill first try. I'd assume he could have made it first try if there wasn't all those people in the "bed". The driver obviously was taking it slow and steady to not injure anyone. He could have just as easily put it in 6x6 high range and hit it with some speed. Odds are, someone would have gotten hurt though.

This video and driver makes the Gamma Goat look bad. I drove one in the Military. You could have made it up that little hill easy if you just started 10 feet back first. I never got stuck and pulled tanks out that got stuck.

Thanks... I think the main problem is not the type of tire and maybe even with "Tracked Wheel", the problem may still exist. I think if there was an "Articulation Steering" machine instead of this machine, it would be easier to go uphill.

that thing is NOT shit, that driver is shit. I have a goat and make it up WAY worse inclines, in thick med, rocks, etc. They really can go anywhere. This guy probably has the tires aired to capacity, and he isn't using his speed at all. Needs practice.
