- This video is another vlog from our garden and here we show you how we remove leaves from the flowers stalks of our Echeveria PVN. Do you think we were successful in propagating them?
We also discuss a few reasons why we need to remove the flower stalks.
I you have any questions or suggestions, pop them in the comment section below.
Thanks.

You have a golden hand in taking care of plants and flowers. Good tutorials in plants propagation.
salamat po..;)
That's the beauty of succulent you can propagate the leaves from the main mother and another propagation is from the flower stalks which is awesome so many babies coming.
I haven't had good luck. I've gotten pups from the leaves of the blooms, but none have grown roots yet. I think it's been almost a year! They are still alive (and super cute because they are so small!), but no roots on any of them. I took them away from water and still didn't get any roots. This is my favorite plant. It was a gift from a friend, and I'd sure like to have more, but no luck yet with new plants!
That is a gorgeous PVN with 3 full flower stalks. I wished I had one that beautiful.
Thanks for watching. Yes, it was a beauty. This video was taken last year and this year, it is doing multiple stalks again. =)
Thank you for showing us the way to propagate the flowers. Very informative.

I didn’t know we can propagate leaves from the succies flowers. Thanks for sharing
I find that they are quite slower to grow pups, maybe because they are not mature leaves. plus in this instance, I did this last May, approaching winter! pasaway! haha..

beautiful flowering stalks
thank you so much!
Really interesting to watch this. My PVN was the same size as yours 2 years ago and I let her go to flower for the first year, then also tried to propagate the leaves from the flower stalks in the 2nd flowering but had no success with that last year. This year, now autumn in Perth, she was looking a bit straggly so I decided to do a head chop and now I have 5 pups on the original PVN stalk plus the larger leaves that were removed are also now just starting to show tiny pink bumps where the babies are growing! Exciting! I wish I tried the head chop sooner. I honestly didn’t think PVN was so prolific due to her struggling to grow big over the last 2 years. I’m so happy to see many pups this year. 😊💜💜💜
Hi Susan, firstly, so sorry that I got to reply only now, we got busy with Mother's Day orders.
I am so like you, when the plant is too perfect, I tend to not propagate them or head chop. But letting them grow too big is also not ideal as the weight puts pressure on the stem. The one that I have in this video has to be head chop soon too as it is not looking its best. =(
You are very lucky with the pink bumps, that is really awesome.
@@SucculentSocial Not a problem. Thanks for your reply. PVN is one of my faves as I love the purple succulents so I instantly clicked on your video. 💜

Very nice content rj
Beautifull. 🤝🤝🙏
Thanks for the video. I’ve had faster results by planting the stocks as well into The soil. I got about 4 pups with roots. And as an experiment I kept the stocks in the soil after I harvested the pups and it puped again. Good luck and thanks
Good stuff! That is so cool! I always heard that they will pup again but I never tried it! I will try that next time.=)

Salamat Inday . Let us stay connected
My pvn has the last 2 rows facing down not up like the rest of the plant. Is 2 hrs of morning sun enough. Living in SA
Hi. This is a bit tricky as the lower leaves drooping down (some people call it skirting as the leaves looks like a skirt) are both signs of either lack of sun or overwatering.
Sometimes when they need more sun, the leaves kind of opens up to get more sun (and of course, they elongate too). It is best to give them 4-5 hrs of sun. Morning sun is the best.
Or when they are overwatered, they also tend to droop down, but that will come with other symptoms such as mushy leaves. Hopefully that is not the case for your plant.
Hope that helps! 😍
Hi,
Could you show the rest of your succulents and share their names please.
Great video 😊
I will try my best to do another round of garden tour. Thanks.
How do you determine what leaves go in the box vs on the dirt?
Hi, the all go on the tray/box. I put them in the soil only when they have roots. 😊
Do you mist/water them like regular leaf propagation
Hi there, once the leaves have roots and pups, then we transfer to soil and start introducing water to the roots.. 😍
When they sit on the dirt waiting to propagate, do you water them?
Hi there, firstly, so sorry to reply only now, We have been away on a 3-week holiday and been so busy once we got back.
As a general rule that I follow, I only water cuttings or leaves when they roots have shown. The roots are the ones responsible
for absorbing water and watering without rots kinds of just wet the leaves/cutting and might just cause rot. Hope that answer your question..🙂
Wow. How old is she? How long was the flower growing? Was looking up to see if I can prop my teeny one. The leaves on it are the size off a bee!
Hi Jessica, she is about 3 years with me but she is already medium-sized when I bought her. We usually let the flower stalk “mature” a bit before taking the stalk leaves for propagation. “Mature” meaning we let the flower to fully bloom. The size of the leaves, based on our experience, do not really matter as we propagate those from smaller varieties too.
They take a little while more to grow pups than the leaves take from the mother plant but you and I are so used to the propagation waiting game, anyway.. Haha.
So yeah, once the flower fully blooms, just prop those leaves away and all the best. Nothing really gets thrown with these succies. Almost every plant part can grow babies. 😍
Dear can we propegate stem branch also
Yes, you can. Just cut, let is it callus and pot in dry soil. ☺️
So did you actually do anything with the stocks?
I actually gathered them all, put in a vase and they had been a colourful centrepiece in our home for about 2 months. They last that long. Some people like to plant the stalks and yes, they can give babies too. but I am happy just to collect the leaves.
What did you do with the stem?
Hi. I place them all in a vase with stems from other varieties. They looked like a bouquet and lasted for almost 2 months..;)

thanks Jyothi...
I have my perle for two years and still this little
How do you make it grow so big
Hi Sheila, I will give credit to the soil when it comes to the growth of our succulents. We try to repot with change of soil every 2 years or so. and in between just give a bit of fertiliser. Hope that helps.
Please, what does PBN stand for those of us who don't know?
Hi. So sorry for using jargon. This is Echeveria Perle von Nurnberg, commonly called PVN.. ☺️
I am excited to see this. GLSOPPA
Can you propagate the stems that are left over?
Hi Cindy, yes you can but based on experience, their chances of rooting and turning into mature plants is lower. keeping in that the flower stalks are not mature parts of the plants.
@@SucculentSocial Thank you!
Where exactly do you live? Because you mentioned that you guys are approaching winter.
Hi Diane, we are in Australia!!! =) This video was done sometime back. We are now past our winter and enjoying beautiful spring weather.. =)
