  • Grower friend Jess and I take a tour of Cross Country Nurseries located in Stockton, NJ where they grow hundreds of thousands of tomato and pepper seedlings to ship across the country. They grow all of these starts organically and sustainably. We take a peek into how they do this- from preventing disease (it starts with seed) to pest management to how they take pond water as an irrigation source.
If you're interested in order, you can order directly at www.chileplants.com. They are shipping from now until end of May.
If you're local to Stockton, NJ be sure to stop by for their grand opening on April 20, 2024 where you can buy the seedlings in person. They'll have other plants like eggplants and herbs!

Very fun to watch! Just enough blending of tech and tradition to pique my nerdy gardener interest. Best wishes on the 2024 grow!

This was so fun and informative! Would love a follow-up to see how they isolate their peppers in the field and then do the actual seed collecting - amazing how they can keep all those different varieties organized.

Wow! This just opened my eyes up to an entirely new option! Ive always wanted to own a retail greenhouse/nursery, but dont have the finances for that- I NEVER considered growing plant starts @ home & shipping!?! 😮

I think there is a HUGE opportunity for shipping plugs to the small scale grower. Many growers don’t need 200 of a single color. They want at most 50 and few can cater to that need right now 😉

On my hard drive 😅. It’s been chaos on both ends so part 2 will be a series of shorts. There wasn’t enough to make a full video but still good stuff!

CCN use to carry a pepper called Bellingrath Gardens.
    It had absolutely beautiful foliage.
Ordered it a few times back in the day,but they don't seem to carry it anymore, and it's one of the harder to find cultivars.
Still use CCN for most of my seed and plants, though.

Bellingrath Gardens is a very unique pepper with the mottled white on the leaves, we'll look for seeds on it to grow out. We do have some other ornamentals with dark foliage that are also very striking. Please take a look at Venezuela, Vietnamese Multi Color, or Black Cuban to see if one of those has a place in your garden.

He mentioned checking the tomatoes for leaf drop- now I'm experiencing a lot of leaf drop in my grow room on my tomatoes. I wish I could ask him what causes it! 😂
