  • #POTA #efhw #hamradio Shenanigans K-6950 -Detail about one possible solution to deploying a wire antenna in a tree. After that, I attempt to do a better job than last time of activating a POTA entity / location with CW and Morse Code. One can use the throw line to deploy antennas either permanently, semi-permanently, or temporarily. We do not always have to use extra lines; for a temporary activation, the throw line can act as the support for the antenna.

Again, fantastic video. Simple. Straight to the point. You've gone over the stuff that a lot of these dudes gloss over, once you have the line in the tree how do you attach it to the wire -- you covered it. I'm bookmarking this video! Fantastic man.

Appreciate ya', Chuck! Thanks! I'm having fun, and looking forward to the next time we get together. Getting around to assembling that CAHR's dipole soon. Thanks for the support. 73 de K0WHW Bill

Thank you very much! Thanks for watching and taking time out to join in the conversation. I originally did a video like this, and it was my most popular video. I've taken too long to do this more-detailed version. I hope it helps! 73 de K0WHW Bill

Still trying to learn CW. I like that you put up the call signs along with the audio; helps in teaching me the code.

Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to join in with a comment. I am still learning; I am not sure if the learning ever stops. There are so many parts to this moving machine; head copy, speed, sending, copying, copying past interference . . . I'm having fun learning. I hope to cu out there! 73 de K0WHW Bill dit dit

Im glad it answered some questions! It’s of course just one technique and there are others just as good or better for certain circumstances. See you out there! 73 de Bill

2:47 Genius!!!! I've always thrown my line the opposite way, the weight toward the feed point. Removed my throw weight and used the rope to pull the antenna up and then tied off the other side. I never thought to make a loop and continue to use the line and put the weight as an "anchor". Just awesome.....good going on the CW skills!!!!

Kyle! Either way works, right?! Sometimes I can’t get to a place to throw toward the operation, or I just want quick up, operate, and finish. More than one way to skin the cat, I guess, lol. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 73 de Bill

Loved the video. Your Lab599 is a dandy! I’ve had a KX2 for several years… and the Elecraft key is ok, but I prefer the N0SA SP4 key. Lately, I really use my QCX Mini paired with a 12v TalentCell, a Palm Pico, and a Spark Plug, EFλ/2 cut for 20m. It’s small and full featured.
    Thanks for the videos… 72 de W7UDT

Thanks! I am very fond of the TX-500. I have a lot of respect for the Elecraft, too. I have the KX3, and have nothing but good to say about it. Several friends have the KX2, and I know it’s a top field radio. I am also a huge QCX and QMX fan. Took that QMX out when I got it, and the POTA reports were all good, the reception / quietness excellent , and the contacts were pretty far and wide through the Gabel vertical and the Pack Tenna EFHW. Seems we have a few things in common. See you out there. 73 de Bill
