    Anyone connected to the watch industry will tell you that prices are still the same so they don’t loose money a bit like realestate agents will tell you buy now buy now prices will increase its all bullshit , luxury items are always the first to fall in any downturn there not a necessity

    • @ltphilipg
      @ltphilipg Před 4 lety +1

      Luxury items- first to fall doesn't mean price. A Ferrari cost what a Ferrari cost. You won't find a new one for $50k. Same with a new rolex from an AD. Just because it's a recession, doesn't mean they are gonna sell them at fire prices. 2nd hand market is a different story because some people may need the liquid cash. Also, during recessions, normally the rich get richer. So there's that too.
      I honestly think, the right brand with heritage like Rolls Royce, Rolex etc, may see a dip in sales but nothing more than that. Wealthy people are making boat loads of money right now.
      Just my opinion

    I think a lot depends on what happens when the AD’s open this month as most of them in the US are still closed or just starting to open. Will they receive the high demand models from Rolex? If so will that take away from the demand on the secondary market causing prices to fall? What will be the effect of all the unemployment on the watch market? They are suggesting depression level loss of jobs on the news. Are people going to sell their watches? What will be the effect of businesses like restaurants starting to open with restrictions on occupancy? Will they be able to survive? The next few months will tell a lot. No one really knows.

    Recently Rolex or possibly AD's hording inventory have dumped a lot of inventory on the market...people were starting to stray to other brands and the prices were softening so (personally I think it was Rolex corporate) started all of a sudden having plenty of "unobtainable" models available.

    You're right - it's only been a few months. Anyone laid off who made less than $30 an hour is being paid more to stay home on Unemployment. While the buyers may have reduced in number, the sellers are holding. They don't really "need" to sell..... YET.
    That said, I fully expect Rolex to shut the factory for the next six months to a year, rather than have supply get anywhere near meeting demand.
    AD's will run out of stock to even "bundle" to their "preferred customers".

    Hey great analysis again. I do give a sh*t about watch prices lol. I agree that watch prices have softened from the highs. That was to be expected but what allot of people that are in the market, or in my case in the watch business, did not expect was the prices to start to hold firm and even rebound a bit. With respect to the quality brands like Rolex or Patek they initially take a hit along with everything else but usually hit a floor and recover quicker. Been advising my clients to go ahead and pick up those pieces they’ve been wanting but were hesitant to buy because prices had risen so high so fast. Prices have fallen 20-30% off highs on some very desirable models which is a pretty decent drop. Think about it. 6 months ago if you were offered a Pepsi GMT for $17k it would have seemed like a fantastic deal. It’s all relative. My own recent buying experience I have seen allot of unleashed pent up demand. A large group of people overnight became buyers. The better deals are being snapped up in a kinda “watch” feeding frenzy. I’ve probably made 50 offers since early March. Not really lowball but a fair amount under the asking price and almost all were rejected but a few did accept, or we were able to come to an agreement. The smart secondary dealers have lowered prices just enough to entice people to buy, but they’re not going to lose money dumping in a panic. Other dealers are into their watches way too much so must hold firm and wait it out. They know this will all blow over in time. Yeah great time to get those pieces you’ve been eyeing ......like that Lange

    • @LewisMa

    Some CZcamsrs have been making fear mongering content about prices dropping trying to drive the price down on hyped models so they can take advantage of people who need to offload then they can buy low and cash in when the crisis ends and the markets begins to recover. It couldn't be more obvious and it's sad. Obviously prices will dip like all markets and goods and eventually things will recover to new levels... historically, that means even higher than they were before the event.

    Ive been dealing rolex watches for about 12 years, i knew the economic crash was gonna bring down prices on overpriced rolex, like the hulk or batman batgirl, pepsi, but it will never affect retail prices, and or preowned, on preowned it all depends on who needs the money, if someone spends 10k 12k on a preowned watch i doubt they will need to sell loosing 3k or 4k so preowned prices wont go down, rolex is a watch that holds value worldwide, so buy rolex with confidence just dont overpay retail that way you wont loose money

  • @andricopoulos70
    @andricopoulos70 Před 4 lety +1

    Rolex is a relatively cheap watch . Most people buy one and keep it for life obviously some collectors obviously flip them. Firstly this crisis is not over. In the long term Rolex will produce the same amount of watches but demand will be down (due to flippers not taking risks ), I beleive demand of actual fans will be the same. So in the long term I think the watches will still be difficult to get but will defenetely drop in price. For Patek and other high end watches they are produced in small numbers so will not be as affected as Rolex.

    Nice to see some intelligent commentary based on facts and analysis instead of so much of the bloviating common on CZcams. Good job! Two key factors: (1) people buying these types of watches are knowledge workers who have weathered the downturn better than most, and (2) watch prices (and most luxury goods) are correlated with the stock market, albeit imperfectly and with a lag. If the market sells off as in 2008, expect watch prices to go into a deep freeze.

    I’ve been investing for over 25 years.
    I think the trend here is that a lot of people think watches are investments all of a sudden in the last three years. So as you will see as the stock market goes up in the last month. watches did the same. And as of today the market is taking two big day hits in a row. Then you’ll see watches go down again. That would be fine if watchers were true investments. But only time will tell.

    From 3 procent unemployment rates to 8,5 procent in my country in just 2 months. Prices of Rolex will drop and I ain't buying nothing from them. Gold was what people should have bought while they had the chance.

    • @juniorjr5328
      @juniorjr5328 Před 4 lety

      It’s still isn’t a thing now in the US, but already happened years ago for Europe and Japan. austrian economist have long predicted that ten years ago. Listen to peter schiff if u need some austrian perspective

      @juniorjr5328 Před 4 lety

      Tons of people who give their opinions on price trends but almost none have a clue about economics. interest rates is the cost of money, a comprehensive analysis would take monetary policies into account.

    • @juniorjr5328
      @juniorjr5328 Před 4 lety

      Inflation won’t come anytime soon even with negative rates in the US. It’s all about money velocity (psychological variables/ reserve currency status/ geopolitics).

    Like I’ve gone back and forth with a few tubers and dealers. Yes it is softening a little but only on Rolex’s nobody wants otherwise prices are $4-7k over list. And some are worse. All the hot models are retarded high. I’ll wait or just buy something else.

    the deep deep economic impact is yet to take its toll, years not months to recover fully from this so I’m tipping Rolex prices will indeed fall and I will buy another. Hold tight, I can see sellers happy getting retail on some models just to raise cash at some point over the next 12 months.

    Lewis. Give it a little more time to simmer. Once reality to above average income earners(100K salesperson, etc.) the one time Rolex buyer for steel watches will disappear. Yes, there will be a few stragglers. You can see how many A.Ds are realigning there position to sell used time pieces and e-commerce sales. Go Ga. Tech. I will eat a V-dog with rings for you.
