Yeesh! In Germany, I was a stealth American Army shopper, a German speaker, peacefully shopping at 8 in the morning, among mostly elderly customers, where I had absolutely no business to be! Buying snacks, big time, for an Army Headquarters, I looked like an escaped convict! Camo pants, denim top, shaved head, German speaking. being polite to one and all, I could have gone to jail for being there, for being an an American, off base without permission! But pulled it off, many times! Just follow Aldi's rules!
I pass by an Aldi’s at least 4-5 times a week and always say to myself, “Self, I want to go in there sometime and see what everyone is talking about”. But now after watching this I m going to go down there see what it’s all about!!!! Thanks Mashed!!!!
I enjoy the interesting variety at Aldi. I'd also like to mention...not in their case at least...but it's pretty fkn rude to be on the phone AS AN EMPLOYEE waiting on a customer. Put the damn thing down.
This hit on a number of my frustrations. I am a customer, but I feel their pain. One thing that you missed (sort of) is people starring off into space, or doing other things, and suddenly realizing, after all the groceries are rung up, that they have to actually pay for things, and then at worst, deciding just then how to pay. The best thing at Aldis, is that you can run your card right away, and you're ready to go. Learn the game and how to play it. Aldis is basically an express grocery. Carry spare quarters in your car, get a cart. Follow the flow of customers, be ready at checkout, and get out. Bring or buy bags. It's really unfair to leave boxes blowing around the parking lot because YOU don't want to pay for a cart. You entitled git.
At least the cashiers can sit during their shift You can only lock a cart into itself by applying a lot of force and bending the chain at just the right place. In europe the issue was solved by making the chains a bit shorter, which makes it impossible to put the plug in its own lock
I’ve never been more disgusted… who is this video for?! Aldi, so they can maximize profits and maintain an unhealthy work environment for their employees?! Seriously… this entire video is telling US how we can do our part to ensure the unrealistic expectations they have for their employees are maintained and they can maximize profits. Did Aldi pay for this video? Why do WE need to be trained to maximize their efficiency!? This is truly disgusting and the thing of dystopian sci-fi. Never shopping there now.
Did not know about the scanning quota. That would eliminate me immediately since I’m not quick motioned. Some are, others are not. Wonder if they test the cashiers before hiring them. Just sayin’.
Once I returned a cart and got back, not a quarter, but a large washer. That washer probably cost 8 to 10 cents at the hardware store, so whoever was trying to cheat didn't gain much.
@@dollylema4670 NOT True. You get back what the previous customer placed in since your purchase goes in the previous customer's cart at checkout. The person after me got my quarter. That issue may be one reason why some people prefer to use bags and not take a cart. There are others. I could have gone back and asked for a quarter refund and I am sure I would have gotten it, but it was not worth my time or the cashier's.
I live in Pittsburgh , PA and In Mendocino County, CA and TOTALLY AGREE! We go to Santa Rose Food Maxx, not so bad. But an Aldi would be soo much better! I hear they have started to bring Aldi stores into southern, CA so hopefully the north is next.
As someone who worked in Grocery retail (not Aldi), the title "Instacart Evils" alone gives me shivers. My blood pressure practically boils when I think about lazy, inexperienced, and/or disorganized instacart shoppers. Especially when they tried doing double or triple orders, can't find anything in the store, then start micromanaging how they want the things bagged (assuming they don't mess up which order they are on🙃). Even now as a customer, nothing is worse than ending up in a line behind an instacart shopper who doesn't have it together.
why would they require that people scan things stupid fast instead of incentivizing customer service. I have always hated going to aldi... the lack of bags, the locked up carts, the lack of commonly available brands on shelves, and everyone there seems to hate life and customers. products should be bagged at the end of the register, preferably by the staff. if I have to do it, i'm going to be slower, without bags it's even slower. how the heck have they survived so long?
I live in the UK I shop at Aldi and yes we have to pack our own stuff but if it takes me time to get my money out so be it, but don't take the piss. And yes I have forgotten my Wallet in the car as I live in the UK, UK is much smaller than the USA you can run to your them back within a minute or two. But I don't think there are quotas in the UK as how fast you should scan because us Brits would like to chat.
The tone of this video was slightly off. I am a courteous person and generally follow the “Aldi rules”. However, I am choosing to spend my time and money shopping at their store which continues their job. Courtesy go both ways. I am NOT saying the employees are rude, the tone of this video was rude insinuating the customer is obligated to support a business…
This tutorial video seems pretty complete in providing all the info one would need to shop at Aldi, specifically at the check-out counters. As I said, this video is surprisingly accurate & complete. However, having taken the “Aldi Advanced Check-Out Course” at Oxford University Advanced Doctorate School in Wiltshire, England, I did notice a small error re: .25 usage when locking/unlocking those carts. More on this later
This is blaming the customer for the situation. Let’s consider that the quota setters are the problem. What happened to customer service? I suggest that Aldi customers revolt. I suggest they complain to corporate regarding their policies. Let’s stay humans and not become robots. I am not going to blame the employees for their irritation. They are irritated at the wrong people.
I find that the elderly have so much trouble with this. My mom hates it. I sometimes feel they welcome you in and throw your ass out. Management needs to keep this in mind. Customers are humans after all.And so are employees.
Ours here is pretty nice since the company has remodeled their older stores. Very clean, folks are nice, good selection of items. I'd say if you don't find what you want at Aldi's, then you probably don't need it. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Haven't been there for a while. I like then but I don't drive down there that much. Will start going every two weeks as there's also a dollar tree etc.
Aldi’s only has one cashier. In the whole store you will see a total of 3 employees including the manger. Talk about being cheap. I thought Walmart was bad, but I think Aldi’s is the top.
Well this explains why at my ALDI’s the manager is Always in a bad mood & is rude & curt to ppl…extremely unhappy Sad to see cashiers work as robots….corporate needs to rethink this, but they won’t…boils down to $$$ in their pockets. 🙁
It is a german company and is totally normal in germany supermarkets that the cashiers are very fast. For many germans in the US it is weird how slow the american cashiers work. A lot of them prefer self checkouts in US supermarket to get a faster checkout. In germany they never would choose the self checkout because the professional cashiers are faster then any self checkout.
I use an Aldi in central Budapest, the staff work hard and are always pleasant. If there is a slow customer through the checkout the look from the local shoppers will make you realize that next time you shop here be prepared. But the best thing I saw when going to my local TESCO in Budapest was the guy behind the checkout wore a black T-Shirt with bright yellow large writing across the front saying F--K YOU, I wish I could of taken the picture but I would not want to get him fired, I think the poor old babushka in front of me did not know english. The funny thing is, in the UK the Tesco moto is " Every little helps!" 🤣😂🤣
Having prices total even dollars would make the change making process much simpler and faster. It is so irritating to have a sale total $2.01 and have to waste time looking for a penny or break a dollar bill or larger for one cent.
In europe they usually round the end-total to the nearest 5ct, so they don't have to bother with 1ct or 2ct coins (It's legal when you put a sign at the door)
Since I was introduced to Aldi's I find that I get charged for items that's not a part of my purchase. Was shopping 🛒 just before the New Year and was overcharge. I love the store, dis like over charge.
I am 70 years old. Customer service used to be a thing that employers and employees took pride in. It has been reduced to being a problem to provide. That is very sad indeed.
Way too much pressure to put on an entry level retail employee. Sure customers should be conscious of the time they’re taking up but this is not fair to the employees if they can be punished for slow customers. I’ll think twice before shopping at Aldi again. I don’t feel comfortable supporting this treatment of employees, even if it costs me a little extra to shop elsewhere.
I feel this is unrealistic of Aldies. Old people, disabled people , people with mental disorders ect They shouldn't take it out on the employees... I never not seen an Aldies employee not doing there job. Bonuses should be paid instead!
Such a bunch of crap. Rushing me is not why I go there. Sorry they don’t like but oh well they can wait another 5 seconds for me to do it like I want to. What ever happened to making the customer happy?
When I worked retail I would wait until the customer got off their phone. I had to ask specific questions per corporate and couldn't do that if they were on their phone. I felt they were insulting me if they ignored me in favor of their phone
This is why I don't shop at Aldi yeah you may get some good items an expensively but when you go to a store you want to feel like you're a valued customer and it just seems that Aldi does not appreciate the customers
I really don't want to be personable with my cashier. And i don't want other customers to hold up the line either, please take your emotional incontinence elsewhere, maybe get some friends.
How do you feel about Aldi?
Yeesh! In Germany, I was a stealth American Army shopper, a German speaker, peacefully shopping at 8 in the morning, among mostly elderly customers, where I had absolutely no business to be! My local Aldi is very nice the cashiers are polite & certainly civilised in adding up the goods .
I pass by an Aldi’s at least 4-5 times a week and always say to myself, “Self, I want to go in there sometime and see what everyone is talking about”. But now after watching this I m going to go down there see what it’s all about!!!! Thanks Mashed!!!!
Well, if you want to save money that is the place to go! I combined Aldi and Costco for my weekly shopping and save tons.
I enjoy the interesting variety at Aldi. I'd also like to mention...not in their case at least...but it's pretty fkn rude to be on the phone AS AN EMPLOYEE waiting on a customer. Put the damn thing down.

We take our groceries home in the boxes, our children build thing with them.
Extra points for including the old Dom Joly skit of the jerk with the giant cell phone.
Putting quotas on employees is wrong - Do it to management - All levels and see how quick that changes.
At least the cashiers can sit during their shift
You can only lock a cart into itself by applying a lot of force and bending the chain at just the right place.
In europe the issue was solved by making the chains a bit shorter, which makes it impossible to put the plug in its own lock
I'm not there to help the cashier do their job. Never shopped at Aldi, now never will.
Timing cashiers sounds bad.
I’ve never been more disgusted… who is this video for?! Aldi, so they can maximize profits and maintain an unhealthy work environment for their employees?! That's terrible having a scanning quota. This is retail...not a sales position. There is a difference.
Trust me when I tell you this: All stores do it.
Did not know about the scanning quota. That would eliminate me immediately since I’m not quick motioned. Some are, others are not. Wonder if they test the cashiers before hiring them. Just sayin’.
It's sad how employers treat their employees globally.
After listening to this….I wonder why anyone would want to work for this company….I also know why I shop at Aldi once every couple of years !!
More emphasis on efficiency and less on smiling at customers can be nice when you need a job but are not really a people-person
My aldi has installed self registers, Problems solved.
Once I returned a cart and got back, not a quarter, but a large washer. That washer probably cost 8 to 10 cents at the hardware store, so whoever was trying to cheat didn't gain much.
You only get back what you placed in...

We need a Aldi in Pittsburg California so we can enjoy all the saving like every body else does
I live in Pittsburgh , PA and In Mendocino County, CA and TOTALLY AGREE! We go to Santa Rose Food Maxx, not so bad. But an Aldi would be soo much better! I hear they have started to bring Aldi stores into southern, CA so hopefully the north is next.
This should apply to all stores
Hack for making change in coins, Four Pennies, Three Quarters, Two Dimes and One Nickel will make change for any amount between $0.01 and $0.99.
Don't shop at Aldi; that solves the problem.
I love Aldi
I love Aldis, the cashiers are fast and curtious. No problem with any store I have been in. I bring my own bags
.
I just went to Aldi for the second time this week earlier today😁
As someone who worked in Grocery retail (not Aldi), the title "Instacart Evils" alone gives me shivers. TRUTH! And they are incredibly rude. They act as if they are the only person shopping in the store. They completely ruin the shop early experience.
Talk about a cattle drive!! I like going there but it's a bit of pressure for everyone. Feel for the employees.
why would they require that people scan things stupid fast instead of incentivizing customer service. I've only been to Aldi once, it's not the closest store, glad I had a quarter.
For those making snippy remarks. learning manners and efficiency won't kill you. Or else don't go. Leaves more stuff for the rest of us.
Amen!! I’ve worked at Whole Foods, and some people don’t realize how rude and inconsiderate people can be.
No wonder there's an We're Hiring sign in front of the store! Big turnover! I still prefer Aldi over Wal-Mart!

Apparently you don’t get the ALDI concept. Extra people cost money. That expense gets passed on to the customer. I think the business plan is smart!
Well this explains why at my ALDI’s the manager is Always in a bad mood & is rude & curt to ppl…extremely unhappy

Aldi is shameful!!!!
i didnt know you could just scan fruit like that WOW
Never been to an Aldi where the cashier didn't have an extra cart handy.

Great video to make people think.❤
This video was informational, but it was more about the cashier and not the shoppers.
As a part time employee of Publix, YES Instacart detroys production! They will stop you for one and then follow up with a few more requests!
I am 70 years old. Customer service used to be a thing that employers and employees took pride in. It has been reduced to being a problem to provide. That is very sad indeed.
This type of quota doesn’t help anyone.
This sounds like a very unpleasant place to shop. All this hassle and they still aren’t cheaper than Walmart. Why bother?
Every time I go into Aldi. I wonder why did I come here!
Sounds annoying AF to work and to shop at Aldi's 😆
No one said you have to shop there!
The cashiers be tripping like a mofo Every time I go here. Makes sense now
Way too much pressure to put on an entry level retail employee. Sounds like a collection of excuses why employees find themselves in an HR meeting
The fast scabbing makes me feel like they throw my stuff sround.
They can't keep help like Walmart. Dogs to work for.
Shame Aldi
This is why I still use checks its so slow.
what a toxic company.
This is just not at Aldi's. Other grocery stores have these same rules as well.
Such a bunch of crap. Rushing me is not why I go there. Sorry they don’t like but oh well they can wait another 5 seconds for me to do it like I want to. What ever happened to making the customer happy?
Talking on the phone while checking out is out and out RUDE!!!
When I worked retail I would wait until the customer got off their phone. I had to ask specific questions per corporate and couldn't do that if they were on their phone. I felt they were insulting me if they ignored me in favor of their phone
Went to grab a cart one day and someone had jammed two dimes and a nickel in the slot!😅
Every time I'm behind a person who uses a card it takes longer than the people who use the cash
25 cents for a cart ? Does anyone remember 10 cents to use the bathroom anywhere?
You don't PAY at Aldi. You get it back at the end of the purchase.
Have anyone on here ever worked at Aldi
Wtf 03.08 polish złoty
This is why I don't shop at Aldi yeah you may get some good items an expensively but when you go to a store you want to feel like you're a valued customer and it just seems that Aldi does not appreciate the customers
That's a shame. Can't be personable.....
I really don't want to be personable with my cashier. And i don't want other customers to hold up the line either, please take your emotional incontinence elsewhere, maybe get some friends.
Scanning quota is also why all my bananas and tomatoes get Beat and bruised to hell.
😎😎
WHO CARES
Aldi and Lidl are the absolute worst
