- This is a short(ish) documentary revealing the true nature of neo-paganism, witchcraft/spirituality and how it interacts with women's empowerment.
Disclosure: Obviously, male pagans and witches exist, but this film is about women pagans and witches, two topics can coexist without diminishing the other.
Was this my best work? No, I was absolutely over-ambitious, but this is a conversation I've wanted to start through film for a long time. Who knows, maybe I'll revisit the idea again in the future :) If you're interested in seeing the process of its video, here is my student website: sites.google.com/view/saffie-...

Obviosuly didn't expect this film to reach as many people as it did, so I want to make an official reply to everyone mentioning the lack of diversity in this!
I am an 18 year old, college student without a driving license who up until recently was lucky to get 11 likes on a video. I do not have access to professionals nor the means to scout out specific people easily (or for free). During the pre-production of this film, I posted on all social media asking for witches (or similar) interested in being interviewed for my film, three people responded and one of those dropped out, meaning I had to fill in the gap for 'a young voice', this is why I feature in the film myself. An interview was recorded for a man, who is not a witch, but an archeology student as he discusses the history of magic and paganism, but it had to be cut from the film due to audio issues and structuring. I started posting specifically asking for black, male or Jewish witches to be interviewed but no one reached out, either because no one relevant saw it or was not comfortable being on camera - if anyone had, I absolutely would have involved them in the film.
In conclusion, I'm sorry my film(s) can't visually represent more people, but if you want to help change that (and you live in England) make sure to keep an eye out for the next time I'm looking for contributors on social media! You can be involved! :)
And there are many which is that hide. I mean you’re looking for a Jewish witch - which I would guess iis somewhere but I’ve never heard of it.
Anyways most people don’t openly discuss it and it’s very complex with witchcraft depending upon where you’re from in the world and what your families pass down. And people are not wanting to be harmed in society. And there is a true story out of Ohio where a young man who was Wicca who just wanted peace for everybody, he was gay, and Christians took him and burned him - you can still see the two chard trees were they killed him murdered him.
Somebody looking for peace and wanting people to love each other being brutally murdered by people who say they’re Christian is just disgusting. It happened near Wilkerson Village near Elyria Grafton in the woods. I’ve actually been to the place. Good luck with your filming and research
Sacred Sister it is not uncommon for us to have the same soulmate/familiar inhabiting two or three different vessels during our incarnation on this biosphere.
That's because they are so short lived compared to us.
We can recognise them by their eyes.(truly the windows of the soul)
A "synchronicity" something will resonate when you first see them and finally by their mannerisms.
They do indeed display the same behaviours as our cherished soulmate because that is indeed them in a different vessel.
Solstice Blessings Sacred Sister.
guess what? Traditional English witchcraft is an Anglo-Saxon tradition. That means it is predominantly White.
I would hazard the guess that you have problems finding interviewees is that most witches are the quiet private type who have no interest in being involved with a woke intersectional feminist wet behind the ears uni student , pushing her half baked ideology.
@@bernardstaples500 ok. thank you for your input on my student film i guess
Lovely movie. I am a witch and the part about being mocked resonated with me. I keep my beliefs and practices hidden, even from family except for a select few walking the same path, out of fear. But I love witchcraft and what control it gives me in my life.
I cut this from this final film because I didn't know if anyone would be interested but I didn't tell a soul about my religion until I was almost 16 for this exact reason! I am lucky that my family were respectful and supportive when I eventually opened up a bit about it around 16-17, even taking me to places across England that helped me connect with my spirituality more! I'm glad witchcraft has had a positive influence on your life :) Hope you enjoyed the film
It's tough when you have to keep your practices kept secret even from family. Witchcraft has suffered a lot from Christian persecution over the years. I suspect this will change with so many people returning to their pagan roots today. Shout out from New Hampshire! 🌒🌘🌗🌖🌕🌓🌔
I've been open about my love based shamanic/witchy practice and it has attracted a certain amount of attention some pretty negative.
My connection to nature and spirit is undeniable though and that is where I get comforted.
☆edit☆
So happy your family is understanding Sacred Sister.
It is a more empowering and natural existence for anyone possibly especially for a young women in a patriarchal society.

You are on the way to hell....😢
There are also male witches i am one, but not wiccan!
Tradirional witchcraft.
🖤 🫂 ♥️
I'm a male 67 year old witch been practicing it since 28 years old. I'm solitary. Not Wiccan
I'm over 50. I hope it's not too late to learn.
@@davidfoley9642 ~ Never, Brother. Never. Welcome to the Old Path.
Great video. I've been a witch my whole life, I believe. As a younger self I denied it, however it always had a way of showing itself to me over and over through out the years. I am now a practicing witch and follow this path that resonates with me. It's who I am, who I feel comfortable with and no longer deny it .
This is a wonderful video! I've been a practicing Witch for over thirty years. At first I kept it secret, as I was letting go of the fear that had been pounded into me by the Baptist church my entire life. Now I refuse to hide who and what I am. I proudly wear a goddess pendant and have the triple goddess symbol tattooed on my wrist. There is a pentacle hanging in my car and one on my window. I make pagan shirts for a local pagan store. Fortunately I live in a fairly liberal part of a red state (hopefully more purple now) and our community here is large. There's even a pagan-owned coffee shop. If Christians can wear their beliefs on the necklaces or whatever, then so can we. Goddess Bless! Happy Yule. )O(
Have a wonderful solstice 💕
There's only one True God. All of these pagan "gods" y'all worship are actually fallen angels, or the monstrous offspring of said fallen angels: Nephilim. Y'all are wasting y'all's souls on these demons. There's no such thing as talking to a dead loved one. The dead are either happy in Heaven or suffering in Hell. They have no place amongst the living. The dead loved ones y'all commune with are actually demonic entities posing as a loved one. They will play with y'all until your soul belongs to them. The first witch was Eve in the Garden of Eden. Don't be enticed like she was by demons and the promise of greater knowledge. It's not worth losing your precious soul over that. Believe in Jesus Christ! For He is the only ticket to Heaven and eternal bliss!
I’m 65 and now started my spiritual journey, after a tarot reading i was told that i have been repressing the stuff i have always had but didn’t realise!, i was told i have been born many times over my 65years on this planet, and now i am finding out about my past lives, who my guardian spirits are, i found out i was around at the time of the ancient egypt, and i have now found out my spirit guide is cerridwen a celtic goddess, i hope i keep finding out about my past lives and continue the journey i am on for as long as i live ! , many blessings to all my fellow witches, wiccans and anyone on their spiritual journey, 🙏🙏
As a witch, this is wonderful!
I don’t call myself a witch, or a feminist , I don’t label myself but I agree with everything said here. I am 65 yrs old, mother , grandmother, retired nurse . This is one of , if not the best film I have seen on witchcraft . And I have seen many . I have been doing spells and tarot for more than 56 years . Great interviews , insights , thank you
Josie doesn’t call herself a witch either! Doesn’t like the connotations that still surround it from when women were killed for it - no labels needed to be in touch with nature and magic :)
So cool, that I stumbled upon this video! It's nice hearing different people's perspectives and experiences and it all just seems so natural and not glammed-up. Good work!
Lovely film, as an 18 year old male witch it's hard to find like minded people, I realize the significance of Wicca and witchcraft in general to women, but I would like to point out the of male witches have a place in in this world as well, Cowley for instance, much love
Crowley wasn't a witch, but a Thelemite
I cast my first spell in the 80's. It worked. I freaked. I stopped -- until now. I learned a lot over the years, and now I belong to no religion. I want to learn how to be an effective witch or wizard.
Hey I'm a male witch too and there's plenty of us. Crawley was a ritual magician and distinct from witchcraft, though there's crossovers in practice :)
@@davidfoley9642 Well your success rate is 100% so far, why not try another? It's fun to me, I just let go of expectation after I do spells and they are almost always successful ever since I stopped "lusting" for effectiveness.
I truly think you did a phenomenal job, I'm a 53yo grandmother with Christian roots, I'm considered "eccentric" by most and in previous times would have most certainly been considered a witch lol. I'm perfectly content with "old crone" as a label. Sweet girl I wish you the best and hope you learn to polish the skill discerning the replies and making the unhelpful ones insignificant. ❤
If my spiritual beliefs hadn't shifted from christianity to pagan and witchcraft a couple years ago, I wouldn't have been able to deal with my 28yo son's s*icide this past May at all. I can hear him tell me, as he did in life, "you're so weird. I love you, mom." Family members who still sit in their beliefs and fears aren't ok. They refuse to question anything. Our society is SO separated from death and it's harming us. It's just another change of energy. In "Do I Have To Wear Black, " the lovely Mortellus (I highly recommend this book to all pagans and nonpagans, regardless of beliefs) talks about why someone's s*icide causes such a different grief. I send hugs to all who have had this happen in their lives. I fully agree with this entire video offering. And it is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm so sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing. There is a cut clip from this film (cut to keep the runtime short) of Josie talking about her fiance, who also passed from s*icide, and how allowing herself to hear messages from him helped her tremendously. She talked about how in day to day life we listen to ourself when we do things as simple as choose lottery numbers or go down a road to find a parking space, why not let ourselves open that up slightly and listen to loved ones that continue to guide us? Even if it's not 'real', it can help so much psychologically to hold onto that connection, but she has enough proof for herself that it is. :) Hope you enjoyed the film
@@saffielewis-summerill9059 thank you. I talk with him every day. There are several things that have happened to me, his wife, his son, and his brothers that leaves no doubt that he's around. I hold the weird things as very precious and beautiful.
With much love he's with the great mother now she will heal his soul blessed be
Very interesting, I have been a witch for many years and although veered off the path a few times I always come back, it’s in my soul. Blessed be fellow witches )0(
Really enjoyed this, thank you! I’m finally getting comfortable calling myself a witch… I love it so much! I’m not quite ready to tell a lot of people yet and there are some people I just will never tell because they won’t understand. I really appreciate how many people have put themselves out there as guides for the rest of us! ❤from 🇨🇦

What a wonderful, well-spoken and well-explained documentary on our community. Thank you!
Fantastic film! I loved every minute., it's a valuable contribution to the community. Keep going! x
Beautiful, thanks for this. Blessed Be🌞🌝✨
I really enjoyed the authenticity and vulnerability of these stories. I appreciate the work that went into this and would definitely be interested to watch more content about witchcraft or paganism, if that ends up being something in your future.
This video is beautiful and I’ve learned a lot thank u
Excellent video! Thank you!
Love it, love it!
Blessed Be!!
A brief yet beautiful film, full of empowering insights.
I really appreciate this film. As a Solidary/Green witch I felt comfort in this. For me the honoring of the earth and natures magic is what I connect with. This film just resonated to me and reinstated my journey. One magic moment at a time. Thank you
I love this! Thank you✨
I loved your Video 😍 it was heartwarming and wholesome Thankyou for sharing 🌺🌹 xx
Beautifully presented!
Nice film. I especially liked the land and riverscape photography, it reminds me of my home territory. As a nature mystic I identify with the connection to the land and rivers. My people have lived in and farmed the piedmont hill country, and hunted and fished along the Potomac River since the early 1700's. It is literally part of my DNA.
What a wonderful video, I'm a forest witch, been drawn to nature and its wonders from a young age (staying out in the woods overnight alone, and enjoying every minute of it, age 9) ,have always worked, rest and played outdoors, only last 12 years, when I became ill, having more reading time ,did it click that I'd really been following the pagan path all my life without even knowing (if that makes sense), naturalistic pagan, but of late, I've really connected with forest witchcraft, and this video really resonates with me, though I am in the minority being a male witch, good health, safe travels and blessed be, Craig 🙏🌿🍃🍄
I'm a very new witch. I wanted to be a witch because of the wonderful people in this film.
I'd love to guide you only if you want
I became a witch for revenge but guess what, the thirst was overwhelming and I tried to learn more
Very nice
I’m a very proud witch. Even tho society discriminate us
Aren't people's fears delicious? Lmao
Discrimination is totally different then fears. Lmao but I do see them on fear after 😂 that’s the delicious part 😉
I loved this film..It resonates with me..I recently discovered crystals, tarot cards and have done some candle spells but am very private about it...I've been a christian my whole life and I love how wiccans live,we are created from the earth and have a divine spirit,I've discovered we are spiritual beings having an earthly, physical experience.I'm on a journey friends..Love,light and blessings!🛐⚛
This is an excellent documentary. I think you could easily develop your project and branch out even further. Wishing you the best in all your future endeavours.
I love it!
Blessings, dear Sisters ❤
Great video
As a male Green Witch for over 40 yrs I say well done, and I'm sure if you revisit this idea in the future it will be just as good.
I thought this was really well done and put together... thank you. Any criticisms or complaints are indicative of the lacking in the people they came from. I found it very helpful and encouraging. Please keep making these. BB.
Ignore the haters, this was a beautiful short film 💛 I enjoyed it!
Rise Of The Divine Feminine.
This was an interesting program. I would like to meet a witch and get a Tarot interpretation. Where can I find a good Tarot interpreter?

As a longstanding witch of 49 years, I am so happy to hear some of the points these ladies are making. HOWEVER, I find this entire "short film" absolutely misleading. I am only making this response to help others who may come to watch this and be further misinformed by this person's personal mini documentary.
Most of what these lovely ladies have to say pertains to RELIGION and BELIEFS, not practices and skills. Witchcraft is a learned skill one honed from research, trial & error, and continued practice. The suffix of "craft" indicates it is a skill, not a religion. Because of this, one may be of any religious background or spirituality or even none and can become a very successful witch if one applies oneself. What many of these ladies seem to be implying is that they are not only witches, but possibly Wiccans, as well. The moment they reference "beliefs/believing in" they are discussing their religious faith and not at all witchcraft. While some religious practices were expanded to include witchcraft for their worship and expression (voodoo, wicca, etc), it does not make witchcraft, itself, religious.
The reference here to Samhain is almost painful for me, as that is NOT a holiday for "pagans as a whole," but for wiccans and anyone who follows a Celtic belief system/religion -- thus leaving out a HUGE population of practicing witches from the equation because many of us don't adhere to wicca or Celtic beliefs. Were you aware that those who follow the Norse faith have separate corresponding holidays to the Celtic faith? As do Christians, and other religions or spiritual practices - many have harvest celebrations. Let me point out that while only a third of our planet's population practice Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judeo, Muslim offshoots), the other two thirds are categorized under the umbrella category of paganism - which includes even Buddhists, Native American spirituality, Jainism and Hinduism.
Wicca and Celtic beliefs are hardly the "standard" for pagans alone, and definitely not at all representative of the variety of faiths which actual witches may practice (if they are religious at all, many are not or are merely spiritual). Also, there is a fair sized population of Christian witches, so again, paganism or whatever religions faith you adhere to has absolutely nothing to do with the skill sets of witchcraft. You do not need to be Wiccan or even pagan to be a witch.
I hope that clears up the silly religious undertones of Wicca which this video is peddling. The video should be called "Year of the Wiccan," and not witch nor continuously use the term "pagan" as interchangeable with witchcraft. They are not synonymous at all. No more than calling all accountants Hindu. It is truly that skewed in how it is being presented.
I wanted to come away from this video with something positive, and there are some good sentiments intertwined with all the Wicca talk, but it is far too muddied throughout these twenty-five minutes to clearly discern any strong messages - unless one is already inclined to Wicca.
What is the difference between witchcraft vs wickin, or is it the same thing? Just curious 🤔
Wicca/Wiccan is a religion. Witchcraft is a practice, not a religion. You can be a witch without following the Wicca religion, but you do practice witchcraft when you follow the Wicca religion also.

Eye color is key to understanding craft/calling. And any anti-Christian understanding makes you a foolish witch, so you need to have eyes that can see. Christ explained many would come in his name, they would be wolves in sheep's clothing. If he said love thy enemy and do no harm, then clearly it wasn't men in the name of Christ that did what they did. There are realms of understanding, order and chaos, and elements in play (Fire, Water, Earth and Air). If you do not connect to the Spirit of Truth (Matthew 6) and do have a connection to craft (I'm a Hazel Witch - Hazel eyes - very old magic - and I'm male so it's not a female thing), then you are at risk of going in blind, playing with fire (the flame all around you). If you believe you are on a planet, then you are already fooled. If you do not understand the allegory that gives this world meaning/shape, then you are going to be misled. It's not about right and wrong, it's about power, why power was stripped because man(kind) has a bad habit of playing with fire and playing god and all that fun stuff. Power is something earned, and there are powers that grant this right - and equivalent exchange is part of the process - you really need to connect to something or you'll fall for anything.

SOY BRUJA
Definitely good stuff... but there are a lot of real witches with a Y chromosome and that kinda got brushed off to the side.
Was wondering do mean you are just questioning
Thou shall not suffer a witch to live.
Go watch some christian propaganda
The original Hebrew says poisoner, this is a mistranslation
Nor idiots. Originally said poisoner until the paranoid King James changed it.
Thou not suffer a Karen to live. *cough cough*. Why bother clicking on this video if you don''t agree? Make it make sense!
The video could have at least acknowledged that there are also male witches even if none wanted to be filmed.
Everybody has magic. We are literally created and born in magic. Manifesting and law of attraction is just another term for the very thing the say is evil. But the dehumanizing of children in gods house is perfectly fine. No wonder there’s adults who openly are not believing in anything that loves them and protects them. The ones they are told to obey abuse them. My friend was made to apologize and then handed back into the monsters care when he tried to tell his mother. He’s got serious issues all over the place now. But say the word witch to people of the church and they smell of hate and fear. It’s the most disturbing display of misplaced loyalty and just being sheeple I think there is. Just tell them it’s in the Bible and they are ok with it. Of course they won’t go read the Bible or anything. Too easy to manipulate and fall for the demons tricks and they just line up like soilent green. Think I spelled that right. It’s ridiculous and sad and I don’t know how to help them stop feeding the children to the enemy. Know what titan your feeding.
Everything is magick as long as you believe in it. People literally deny that all the time and hence why 'magick' to them doesn't exist
Wonderful documentary. A pity not a single man was interviewed, I was hoping minorities would be represented. A bit more inclusivity wouldn’t hurt
Paride Piazza ~ Agreed.
It's honestly easier to find female witches, male witches are definitely quieter about what they believe
I actually write about this on my website!! I kept posting for more interviewees, asking if any men or black witches wanted to be filmed, but no one who saw it was interested :( it’s difficult to find a wide range of interviewees when my platform is small
Isaiah55:6&7,"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts.Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon."
Repent, receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior today. This is God's invitation for redemption, Jesus loves you so much and he is the only WAY to eternity.God bless you
I have a question and I by no means am joking or trying to be rude. Why do you do this? What do you gain from it? Obviously there is no magical event happening based on your practices (is that the right term?). Why do you do this? Are you doing some kind of live action role play that keeps you entertained? Thank you for your answers!
I'd say it's different for everyone but I'm not sure people roleplay about being a witch I hope. For some witchcraft is a way of being one with yourself and figuring out who you are and what you mean in this life.
Some people gain happiness and relief from practicing. Magic does exist but not in a form of a Harry Potter wand it's more like manipulating, redirecting energy (not electricity).
Relief from what? How is magic manipulating energy and what scientific basis do you have for these claims?
Thank you!
@@titusbustedhag1723 relief from general stuff maybe life problems. Magic isn't a good term for manipulating energy. Magic is something you have to believe in. If I'm correct there are scientific explanations for some of these claims but not everything can be explained. It's more of a belief system.
Thank you so much for responding. It sounds like role play to me? Maybe with some kind of emotional benefit?
Thanks again and all my best.
@@titusbustedhag1723 no problem
This aint no movie!
Firstly congratulations for a well framed and produced little doco. However I do find the content a little problematic. I find the general air of misandry throughout, kind of , well disgusting frankly. The burning times are a myth do more resurch. yes women were persecuted but no more than the men of the time and the charge of witchcraft was a convenient way of removing ones enemies. oh and appropriating property. Its time.that the pagan community let that shit go now and leave the persecution complex to a certain abrahamic religion.
Wonderful informative film. Blessed be. 🧹 🪄
