The Ultimate Archaic Age Beginner Guide | Reading and Scouting the Map

- In this Age of Mythology archaic age beginner series we'll go over a complete guide for the early game, including how to scout, read the map, build orders and tactics for every Civ
Comment below which Civ you'd like to see first.
I'll have a PDF to go with every Civ for easy access to the build orders, once each of the videos drop. Please let me know the best way to give these out. The videos/screenshots were an early version, I’ve changed them many times since then and even the builds won’t be the exact same as shown. I'm still testing the builds to make sure they're easy to follow and get a decent advance time.

Which civ should I release the build order videos for first?
Greek
Egyptian
Norse
Atlantean
I'd say cover them in the campaign order, Greek, Egyptia, Norse, Atlantean. Though for some, like as highlighted here, Ra they might have very different starts depending on their major God so it'll be up to you to decide wether they need subsections or their own videos.
Thank you for your guides, videos and shorts!
Me, personally, I find Greek, Norse and Chinese factions the most confusing, especially the Greek faction, because it is the most vanilla one, and it does not have easily recognizible differences, pros and cons of other factions.
Egyptian is the easiest for me: the least wood-consuming, the towers can shoot from the start, houses are basically free, and their priests are accessible from the start, so you can, if you wish, micro-control your troops and restore their health from the very beginning to avoid losses.
Atlanteans have many cool features too, especially the fact their gatherers do not care for drop sites at all and can gather any resources anywhere on the map, and if opponent sucks at scouting, it means they can steal all the sweet spots in the "neutral" territory and let you forget about economy if you do everything right from the start.
The Norse aggressiveness may be confusing at first (infantry builds, and gatherers only collect resources? There is a separate unit for more efficient gold gathering? Favour is collected by fighting?), but then it becomes even easier to understand, especially after beating the campaign, which is cool to understand most of factions (unless we speak about the Chinese campaign, this one is confusing, in my opinion).
Greek, atty, eggy, Norse would be my order vote
Eggy first
This is so useful, i just always feel like i dont scout enough, and this helps me so much, thanks!
Thank you for doing this! It's very difficult as a beginner to learn the game competitively while not getting frustrated. Hopefully all these guides + the build order will clear out some of this confusion :)
I was the same when I first started, I’m trying to make beginner content that I would have wanted to see 🙂
Thank you! Very informative. Looking forward for more vids!
Nice video. Hopefully we'll watch more of them soon. Thank you!
Daayuummm this is soooo good, buuut the New AoM Retold is also coming up, hopefully you'll make a tutorial for us there as well
I absolutely will 🙂 this is for anyone that wants to get into aom before retold is here
How do you get your UI to be transparent like that? Can it be done in enhanced edition or is this a different version of AoM? It would be cool to see a short or video on how you set up your game interface and hotkeys.
I’ve made a video like this, it’s called “best mods in aom”
if you don't mind me saying, it seems a little odd that you make such good content but seem to have very little participation with the wider aom online community. is there a reason for this? you are like an island. idk if I've seen you in any twitch chats or discords or Reddit posts or rts sanc discussions. did you just lurk and decide to put good shit together?
That’s basically it 😂 I’ve always been around but didn’t actively participate much in the community until I made the channel. I watch twitch, mostly vods though and read a lot of Reddit posts maybe I need to comment a bit more to show I’m around haha
@@mooseaom well hope to see you around in those spaces, especially with retold on the horizon. looking forward to more content.
