  • Hello again - in this video of Detailing Your HO Layout I'll be sharing one of my sections in which I've took the time to do some detailing and making it look realistic. Detailing is key to create a realistic looking layout. What are some things you do to make your layout or diorama look more realistic? Let me hear ya!!

    Your layout is very detailed but simple. That's my inspiration too. The face on the side of the building reminds me of a smiling woman's face on a fairly new gray plastic pellet covered hopper I seen a while ago. It looked like a Black and White photo. The words above it said: RIP MOM I LOVE YOU.

    Looking good my friend!
    Fine layout details are really the unsung actors of the layout. They are critical to communicating the story you want to tell.

    Great level of detailing on your layout, I especially like the trash strewn around and the vines. One trick I have is when building a diorama with a structure on a base like concrete or wood decking, I'll take some of my ground-up dry leaf dust and sprinkle it in the corners where the walls meet the base, like where leaves and debris always get blown into. Then a drip of alcohol keeps it all in place. Would look awesome at the base of your tower.

      Yes sir I have a whole bag of chopped blended dry leaves. I didn’t put anything on these cause I knew we’d be moving at some point. Shoulda just did it anyway lol. Thanks bro.

    I've found that it's more fun to make a small area and put a lot of detail in it. I made a compact 1 by 4 HO switching layout on a old table leaf. While I did, I didn't feel overwhelmed, so things like painting the rails brown and adding lots of weeds and grass detail on the track seemed doable. Thanks for your showcase, it gives me some ideas!

      That’s awesome bro. I think I wanna do a mini something similar in size. And just pack as much detail in there as I can.

    I always say model what is in front of you. Or at least what you see in a photograph. The imperfection in things is what nature intended and it makes it more real.

    You’ve got so much talent, very inspirational 👍

    I love the way you model the passage of time. In the railway world change in the landscape is slow. I model 75 to 85 and in my railfaning in those dates lots of steam era buildings and structures are still around.

    I like the nigh music, well done. I am happy for you to look for a house, however, this might not be the best time as the market is collapsing. Good Luke on that.

    The level of your talent is off the charts. You should do a video of your entire layout. It has to be just amazing. I'll keep saying it how does a great man with awesome talent and knowledge. Have only 2.58 subs. That is a freaking travesty. I would love to come visit you. Maybe you can graffiti my G-scale auto rack.

    So Wayman since I’ve been following your channel I take my time and detailing my buildings so I got a good one. Here in New England there’s signs on abandoned or burned houses with white and red (x) and it symbolizes that the structure is unsafe. So I’ve been building this apartment building with boarded up windows and burn stains from the fire. Thanks to your layout I’ve taken my up a notch!! Thank you rock on!

    Ive always been a detail oriented person, whether it be drawing, my scale rc's, dioramas, kits, airbrushing, just life in general. Devils in the details lol but my question is where do you even begin on a room sized layout?? No matter if its static or moving, where do you even begin?? Would love to rack your brain a bit on this!? Love the show buddy and great content! Have a great day

      Thanks Josh - and honestly one small bite at a time. Think out and have a plan. I started on a door and it's grown to this... lol. But I love it and each time I expanded and grew I thought about it for a while and made sure that I didn't bite off more than I can chew. For me it's slow going cause I'm in no rush or no race with anyone. Take your time, and have fun!

    Excellent! Very rich landscape with a nice variety of all kinds of interesting stuff. I especially like the ruined building- kept trying to get a closer look to see what's in there. It's the details that draw the viewer in.
    I've become a big advocate of going back over the layout in layers. What do we add this time?

    • @ProScaleModels
      @ProScaleModels  Před rokem

      Totally agree - going back over and just thinking - - - what could I add...?

    Hi, glad I came across you this morning. Lije everyone else I am very impressed with your level of detail and layering. I have a number of questions for you as I watch hoping you will indulge me.
    Do you find product advertisements that you can reduce and prints to represent food cartons, newspapers etc?
    Where do you source your tyres?
    Did you scratch build your buildings based on buildings you have seen? Do you photograph them then print them?
    Did you make your fire escapes from 3d printed material or did you scratch build?
    What did you make your concrete parking lot from? Did you use foam core Your face on tge building hs so good.
    Great job and thanks for sharing
    Regards
    Charlie

    • @ProScaleModels
      @ProScaleModels  Před rokem +1

      Hey Charlie thanks for that and thanks for your questions. So some of those questions can be answered in my "how to" playlist. But for the most part I'll either scratch build a lot of things or 3D print them - when I'm being lazy or just don't know how to do something then I'll buy stuff from companies or individuals that specialize in that particular thing. Like most of my buildings are scratch built but I do have and still get kits from folks. Fire escapes are actually from Walthers. I don't mind answering questions either...

    Riding the El ,( elevated), trains in NYC I noticed an unbelievable amount of detail, including trash and graffiti, on the building roofs.
