I remember back then a-ha was considered just another pop boyband. The hype from Take On Me had settled and nobody I knew listened to a-ha anymore, except me. I used THIS song to prove my friends wrong...this is not pop, this is something uniquely different! I would listen to that outro over and over...so much detailed delicacy going on!

I love a-ha. Hunting high and low is the first album I ever bought in my life (I was 11 at the time). Morten Harket's voice is so unique, the instrumental is excellent, the lyrics are always powerful. This was my favorite band since childhood. If you haven't reacted to these songs, you might consider Dark is the night for all and Early morning. Greetings from Italy

One of my all time favorites from a-ha. The lyrics, the instrumentals, the rhythm and of course that voice! Pure magic!
Always wondered if "out of blue comes green" means something like out of sadness (blue) comes hope (green).
I was so happy when Morten asked the fans for a song to include in his solo-tour and this one was chosen.

Hi Mike! I appreciate the fact that even if the synth pop is not your favourite kind of music, despite everything, you are ready to dive in this A-ha 80's sound. And... i'm very happy that you seem to enjoy it a lot!!! As you see, synth 80's music does not mean absolutely superficial and light music!!! Out of blue comes green... is a good example of A-ha's early songs; a sophisticated synth ( pop?, not really) surprising song with a little bit of soft-melodic rock and dramatic mood, with deep lyrics and finally, with a lot of details for those who pay attention and like well written music. Several and various good songs to discover from this period that you should listen to... before going back to the 90's album. We are not finish with these yet ( Early morning, Slender frame, How sweet it was, Lamb to the slaughter, Locust, Memorial beach). And then, more songs to explore with the 2000's and 2010's album... Yes, a lot to work on still!!! 😊

I always become somber and melancholic listening to this song. I wanted this so bad to be released as a single with a really beautiful and meaningful video to it. Ah was late coming to this reaction but not the song. I actually owned the Stay On These Roads album before the debut and sophomore albums. And this song just hit me as well as Hurry Home from the same album. Of course the title track is a classic - especially the Ending on a High Note and Analogue tour versions. But I’ll go back and beg one more time ….. do a double take of The Swing of Things - the band never leave it out of their set list - do the studio version followed by the 1994 live version in Oslo from the Memorial Beach deluxe album. That will show Mortens voice in all its glory - and I know some find it over the top but Pal’s guitar riff blows me away 👍😜

Oh, you want to hear him sing higher? He hits a D5 in his CHEST voice with absolute ease in Touchy! So happy you did this one, it really is a feast for the ears! I always get a little Florence and the Machine vibe in this song-I think they’d do an amazing cover of this. BTW I’m pretty sure that sound you thought was a string or sax was an oboe or clarinet. They used it in Living A Boy’s Adventure Tale as well, from their debut album. That one has some lovely high notes as well, in falsetto. But the highest I’ve heard him sing in chest voice is Touchy! For reference, the D5 from Touchy! is one note lower than the falsetto high note in Take On Me, I repeat, in his chest voice. I usually end up just staring at the console and shaking my head. That one is from the same album as this but more of the synth pop stuff. Cute music video too. Looking forward to more a-ha!!!

I will never understand why Touchy was chosen as a single instead of this masterpiece. Or rather I do understand, the record company wanted another Take On Me, and Touchy had that poppy thing going for it. It was definitely the wrong way to go following the single release of Stay On These Roads and not least the previous album Scoundrel Days, which was much rockier. A-ha are at their best when they go dark and gritty (Memorial Beach springs to mind!) - Touchy was anything but.

They wanted to change producer so they could go a different direction, but the studio lied to them and said no other producer wanted to work with them, they knocked that album out in just six months.

Ugh, studios. Although I would have thought this song at least would have been too long for a single, and I don’t think trimming it would have done anything good for the song. I get why it was Touchy! and frankly, I’m rather fond of Touchy!, as much as I prefer the more rocky stuff. Was there another single off this album? The Blood That Moves The Body, maybe?

@@emmyfischer307 Back then, as a devoted fan, I sort of forced myself to like Touchy and You Are The One - but these days, I never listen to those two songs. Everything else on the album is much better. It's a strange album, though, a really mixed bag. Even some of the songs are a mixed bag, like Hurry Home, which has an awesome intro and verse that I really really love and then it gets destroyed by that terrible "I'm doing right" part. But that's just me :-)

Yes I have a soft spot for that song too. It’s just kind of smooth and sexy. The lyrics aren’t the greatest, I’ll admit, EXCEPT for that one line- “And all of us who are traveling by trapdoors; our souls are a myriad of wars, and I’m losing every one.” I mean, where did that come from?! That is a GREAT line! Definitely one of my favorites from the album. I’m also rather fond of Hurry Home:)
