Shoutout to Desus and Mero for covering this. And for those who weren't there: the "Bronx chapter" aka the Black protesters were up front leading, with the white marchers flanking the sides and the back, so that the police wouldn't attack the Black marchers in the front, which included Adrian Napier, the guy who got beat up by the police at gunpoint in the now viral video, and his mom. Otherwise the cops have a documented tendency to assault Black marchers who have less access to legal resources to fight back.
That's the reason why a lot of the mainstream coverage shows mostly white marchers, it was an intentional formation, ordered by the Black organizers, who were awesome. Probably one of the most organized marches I've seen in 15 years, and it was done with no permit and probably no funding. Shoutout to Decolonize This Place, among others, for putting it together.
It's probably true that some of the "Bronx chapter" kids were passerby who jumped in when they saw the march pass, which is the sign of a good protest. Everyone got their moment to shine, and the nonsense was kept to a minimum. It was epic. Just epic.

If the Black organizers hadn't prevented the white kids (or old hippie burnouts) from taking over the march, this is exactly what would have happened. And it would have been boring and ineffective as fuck. Instead, they shut things down, and this is now an international news story.
