I had an art teacher who told us that famous artists like Vermeer, who painted "The Girl with the Pearl Earring", also used tracing. She also told us tracing is not cheating or copying, that it just makes the art process go faster.
Tracing doesn't make you a bad artist. Her comment makes her a bad teacher. Muscle memory helps. Sometimes drawing just takes so long. I paint. Why use my time for the part of the process that I don't enjoy? Congratulations on quitting your job and moving forward with your art!

I liked the way it looked, and I wanted to play more with the colours rather than spend hours trying to perfect the drawing which is less relevant! By the way, I am loving the gouache course. Taking it slowly here and there, but its so great! Cant wait to finish it.

I've done that same technique from Makoccino! It looks very cool. I also really like your swirly sky and oceant. In defense of the teacher, especially in primary or secondary school, if the purpose is to learn to draw, then tracing is kind of cheating. In the grand scheme of things, tracing is not "cheating," but your teacher does get to define what cheating is in their class. Still, they could have phrased it differently without making you feel bad or doubt yourself.

I'm English and can't speak German (only a bit of Afrikaans lol) but I'm really glad you are doing a German channel. CZcams only recommends English channels to me and I'm sure we are missing out so much in other languages. This can only grow the community.
As too the tracing issue, tattoo artists do it all the time, and professionals do it to save time. I personally believe that if you trace from a real photo it's OK because you are still interpreting it,and most often is never exactly as the photos. I don't really agree with tracing that is already stylised by an artist unless you are a beginner and use it to learn. When you copy a stylised picture you are not putting your own personal interpretation into it which is why it's different. For beginners though it can be the best way to learn new styles, just don't claim it as your own.
I love the sunset swirl. So pretty. They all came out great that one is just my favorite 😊. The bilingual struggle is real. 😂 when you said finding the word in the language your speaking I was like, “omg yes that happens all the time”. 🤣 I speak Spanish and English just in case you were curious. I have checked out your German channel but haven’t subscribed. I will do the that now😊 I am always willing to support a fellow CZcamsr 🥰.

It's only cheating if you copy another person's work without permission or attribution. Unless that was a copyright free photo, it's illegal and cheating. Most artists who use copyright free photos state the source so their followers know they're not stealing another artist's work.

I agree. It's sad how many rigid-thinking art teachers have discouraged potentially great artists who just have a different way of creating their art.

A lot of great famous artist's traced their base painting's so according to your old teacher they're also fake lol
