  • Folks traveling down Interstate 84 may have noticed a peculiar site this afternoon, two Boise Police patrol cars filled with bags of cat food!
The officers were delivering nearly 800 pounds of cat food donated by Boise City employees in response to a plea from the Idaho Humane Society that donations had fallen short this month!
    About today's donation delivery:
    • The pet food is supplied free of charge by the Humane Society to local homebound seniors who reply on companion animals.
    • BPD K9 Turk led today's delivery effort.
    • Turk is a three year old yellow lab and a very skilled drug detection dog. Turk was once up for adoption himself at the Idaho Humane Society. Officers recognized that he had the behavior traits necessary to make a good police service dog! Turk is now a certified drug detection dog and has been on the job with Boise Police almost two years.
Boise City employees responded to the Humane Society's need quickly and generously:
    • The request for donations came out Tuesday, with the IHS needing to deliver to pet food tomorrow, Saturday.
    • Between Tuesday and this morning Boise City employees responded by donating 797 pounds of cat food, 36 pounds of dog food and several cash donations.
    • The pet food was collected at City Hall West, City Hall downtown and the Lander Street Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Employees and volunteers at the Idaho Humane Society were extremely grateful for the large donation. They say they will now be able to meet this month's need for pet food for homebound seniors and their needed companion animals.
