"It did change, Bob, because we applied the concepts of the Japaneses Quality Improvement movement. We identified places where guys had trouble and kept working on better techniques to make Windsor chairmaking easier. No suggestion was too silly to be considered. If one solution failed to solve the problem, we tried something else. We did that over and over again on the entire process. Over all those years and all those classes the small, incremental improvements we made added up and Windsor chairmaking became very doable. In short, these videos are the results of many years of effort focused on the sole purpose making it effortless."
Another great video....one thing I noticed , and it's something I do in my small shop, is the noisy vice you have!!....I love the rubber band trick I learned from you.....I also hope you make your shop stool for us too....thanks again
2:30 plus a shave horse takes up a bunch of space in the shop that never has enough space anyway… and you need the bench with various vises for a million other things.
8:10 I’ve never tried it, probably because turning a spindle drawknived so thin isn’t practical or possible, but it’s occasionally occurred to me that I could turn the bottoms just like the forward spindles, and then do the tops with a drawknife. While I’ve repaired a bunch of chairs and made other styles, the only sack back I ever made was in the class in 1994 or 95- a long long time ago. But I thought about it…
