  • Two classic car events took place at Gawsworth Hall in Cheshire during May. The first was featured here on the Old Classic Car channel recently, this is the second, named "YOUNGTIMER" and concentrates mainly on cars of the 1970s through to the 1990s(ish), although there is some elasticity in this date range especially with cars displayed on club stands. It was a new event for us, so we were keen to find out what cars would turn up, and how it would differ to the other show just a few weeks previously.
A fine variety of classic cars of the 1970s and 1980s made the trip to Gawsworth Hall, as did an interesting assortment of "modern classics" and cars now considered as "future classics". As always, I try and feature a bit of everything in these videos while tending to prioritise the earlier cars in line with what the channel is about.
Favourites at Youngtimer 2024 included a two-stroke longnose SAAB 96, Dino (Ferrari) 246, Ford Sierra XR8, Mercedes-Benz 500E, Subaru SVX, BMW Z8, and a BMW/Alpina B7 Turbo based on the E28 5-series. The pickup conversions of a 6-series and a 3-series BMW were also quite memorable, and it was neat to see a Ford Model A of all things on a motor club stand. All in all, an enjoyable day out.
I'll include links to the previous Gawsworth Hall classic car show videos at the end of this one. Your thoughts welcomed in the comments section as always. Please give the video a Like if it was of interest, and think about subscribing (no cost involved) if you'd like to catch future uploads here on Old Classic Car.

Great show. The Escort RS1800 you saw is a very rare car. It's generally known that only a 109 examples were built with very few being "Custom" models (nicer trim).

Half on the look out for something from the 80's to join the fleet, to fit in the middle of our 90's eunos & 70's Rover - so this video was right up my street 👍

Thanks again for the excellent coverage and commentary. I would have the Escort "E" in a minute. What a survivor. Kind of a mini-Capri of the same vintage. I just got back from a Cars and Caffeine gathering with a few Ferraris so the Dino doesn't tempt me as much....at this moment!

These smaller events really need to up their game in terms of advertising their events. This would have been ideal for my vehicle but your video is the first I have heard of it

I met some friends from our car club yesterday morning and we took ourselves on a drive up the A686 and Hartside Pass where the cafe used to stand. There must have been a Ford Escort Rally taking place and there was literally dozens and dozens of Ford mainly Escorts taking part I would say at a rough guess over 100 at least. I have sent you some impromptu photos which are not he best I should add. I understand that planning permission has been granted to build a replacement cafe for the one that burned down a few years ago and is much lamented.

Good evening Richard & Co. That Dino was exquisite and that "e" type was a very early series 1.5 , in fact the afficinado 's call this the series 1 .25 as the only clue being the"rocker" switches . That "Bond Z8 (?) is extremely rare . Thankyou gentlemen .Ooops ! Nearly forgot . I carried out a major body repair on a SVX way back in the 1990's
I had to create the Pearl White colour myself as no one could supply it . The engine was a 3litre flat 6 and it was a fabulous car to drive . Cheers !

    Cool show.
Gotta love the BMW pickup/Ute. Definitely unusual.
Those Suzuki Vitaras were also badged as the Geo Tracker, and later [ when GM dropped the Geo brand], they were sold as the Chevrolet Tracker. At the Suzuki dealerships they were called the TRACKER.

I see where you're coming from, although I bet quite a few owners of nice cars have scrimped and saved elsewhere in order to buy them. Even a new Ford Focus can cost north of £34k nowadays and no-one would bat an eyelid at someone driving one of those. Same for cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 for example (nudging £60k in some cases, that'd buy a very nice older car).

The Subaru SVX is quite simply the most stunning looking Japanese car ever made. Why it had an extremely limited production run is beyond me along with that flat six engine that could have powered a mid engine competitor tp tthe Porsche 911.
