He use to sing this in his bar room shows before he even had a recording contract. He sang all over Texas and I got to see him twice before he became a star. Good thing because I sure couldn't afford to see him now. I wanted to see his last show in Dallas but tickets were from $5000 up to $25000 each. First time I saw him in Corpus it cost me $5 at the door. Still great though.
He played a small town rodeo in Ft. Stockton, Texas back in the eighties. After the rodeo they packed down the ground in one corner of the arena for a little dance floor and that’s where he played, and we all danced within a couple of feet of him. Gosh those were good days! He never succumbed to the crap they call country music these days.
I'm surprised George Strait never recorded his version of this song and put it on an album. He actually used to play this song at his shows quite a bit.
When George sings this “Ballad” I LOVE how the music gets real loud and George starts singing and it feels like he’s leading the charge! WOW I just love it… BEST SONG EVER!! ♥️♥️
Yes. A extraordinary singer - but it certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes .... STILL!! If I could find a nightclub that still played these GREAT country songs, I’d go out & FIND me a dancing partner!!
You people are looking at man who holds the record of best musician EVER!!! Its astounding his amount of gold, platinum albums and his ability to chart. You get yourself a top 10 hit every fn year for 30 years. Never be stopped
He will always be the best - such a huge talent. An outstanding role model for his choosing clean lyrics, great arrangements, delivery. that voice is incomparable. Good husband and dad. George Strait, you are the best!
I have seen his performance of this song a couple of times and this is the first time I have seen a quality recording of it. Sure, wish he would have released it.
I'm 67 year old used to run Texas in love to hear George Strait on AM radio this is real country sorry you don't remember it sorry, excuse me that saying that you didn't remember them but you can hear it now
Love this song and his live version of this song!!! I wish he would record it for an album. He is the King of Country Music!!! Thanks for posting this video. Love it!!!
Nobody does this better than the original, but this song is great whoever sings it. Webb Pierce was the O.G, and still my favorite. Support independent musicians! We need your support!!! Peace. 🐰💙🇺🇸🗽🎸🎶✌️
Wow thank you so much. You must be the only person in the whole world to know that listening to this song. So glad you’re here to contribute so much knowledge to everyone.
"Strait has sold more than 68.5 million albums in the United States and his certifications from the RIAA include 13 multi-platinum, 33 platinum, and 38 gold albums. His best-selling album is Pure Country (1992), which sold 6 million (6× Multi-platinum).(8× Multi-Platinum due to being a box set with four CDs). According to the RIAA, Strait is the 12th best-selling album recording artist in the United States overall."
In more than 30 years of recording, all of which have been spent with MCA Records, George Strait has garnered 59 No. 1 songs on all country charts (including Mediabase 24/7, the former Radio & Records charts, and the now-defunct Gavin Report charts), and has more No. 1 hits than any other artist in any genre. His 44 Billboard magazine country No. 1's (to date) are a record, at the moment four more than previous record-holder Conway Twitty, who racked up 40..so wheres your arguement?
@MrDemonface123 I think both artists do it their seperate ways; Webb Pierce has the early sixties Nashville sound and George Strait's Texas sound. Both do a great job on this song, and it makes the song slightly more relevant to those who don't necessarily like the 60's Nashville sound. But in the end, both this and Webb's version are truly country songs, unlike songs today called Country Music.

I respect you. I wish I could see a young George in action
I saw him at an amusement park early in his career. He sang a lot of bob wills sngs

Perfectly said!!! ❤❤❤

LOVE YOU GEORGE..
That's because he knows no one can sing this song like Johnny Bush.
@@austinteutsch you mean Webb Pierce?
@@jaidendeprez1842 No, I mean Johnny Bush. He is a true country singer deluxe. Another great version is by Jack Greene.
@@austinteutsch Those are great! Compare with Ted Hawkins-- his version is unique and bone-chilling.
Now this is country at its finest..........unlike that crap they have today
When George sings this “Ballad” I LOVE how the music gets real loud and George starts singing and it feels like he’s leading the charge! WOW I just love it…
BEST SONG EVER!! ♥️♥️
GOOD tribute to Webb Pierce.go George.
I miss this "old time" CW music. The steels, the beat, the rhythm. Great dancing music

I watched the ACM Awards tonight. This I came to hear some real music especially George Strait!
We saw him at Gruene Hall back in ‘82,
We danced right by him on the stage,
And it was $1 beer night! Lol
Aww, the good ol’ days
Ps Yee-Haw!🤠
He showed up at Gruene a few years back. Just walked in and started playing for people. Wish I had been there.
Dollar beer in 82?! That was highway robbery, I turned 21 in 91 and most bottles then were .50-1.00.
@George Strait Since the early 80's.
@George Strait Iowa, yep.
This first time hear this song. George all King of Country Music. Pure country music sound. Why enjoy his music though years. Two thumbs up.
julie brtek Conway, George, Merle and Hank are gone so he might be king now but Gene Watson is still kicking so uhm... maybe not yet 😎😉
This is a Webb Pierce song from the 50's just to let you know
I love this man... Best ever in country music ☝☝😘😘😘☝☝☝☝💕💕💕💞💞

You said it all
George Strait does a more than credible version of this old song. Webb Pierce had a hit with this in 1953.....and his version is amazing also.
Johnny Bush has the best version of this song
Wow, George knocked this one out of the park!!! Great song and great performance! Thank you for posting!
I really like this song but I like all of his songs. I love the handsome man 😊
I have seen his performance of this song a couple of times and this is the first time I have seen a quality recording of it. Sure, wish he would have released it.
The ultimate performer for the last 35 years.
Pure country gold, both the song and the performer.
He is the greatest...love George..Not many singers stay on top as he has done. He continues to sell out huge venues...enough said...love George..
Awesome! George should have released this would have been another #1 for him.
You are definitely THE G.O.A.T Of Country Music
I saw him and Tanya Tucker in a small rodeo arena in Ada, OK 1986! Great concert!!
Love the way this man cranks out this song. NO ONE does this song as well as George.
A great honky tonk song, sung by the greatest Country singer.
George Strait is one of the all time greatest
George does a great dance-hall, swing version of this one!
Webb Pierce made the first hit recording of this song, but the style was very different.
When music was country..Think i will use that as a song title and write a poem for it..
I'm 67 year old used to run Texas in love to hear George Strait on AM radio this is real country sorry you don't remember it sorry, excuse me that saying that you didn't remember them but you can hear it now
george is best ever
my aunt Louise passed away on first day of spring this song came from Conway Twitty please all prayers I have never posted anything before
Please make a Doctor's appointmant ASAP, Have your ears checked -- George is the King!!!!
I love George Strait but my absolute favorite cover of this song is by Johnny Bush
I have a vid I took in Texas 2014.....Johnny is singing@@soonerlegendspodcast
Thomas Haverstock..... there is no one on this planet that is better than George! They don't call him the King of Country because of his looks! Sorry!
Looks help a lot!!!
Looks ARE a '10', but his title's WELL earned!! George Strait's the best yet!
Love this song and his live version of this song!!! I wish he would record it for an album. He is the King of Country Music!!! Thanks for posting this video. Love it!!!
there's the glass somewhere today
He actually borrowed this from other singers. And he did record it!
Webb Pierce and Conway Twitty
My favorite country singer no one will Ever Ever top king of country
george is gonna make everything ok
He can make any song his own.
George Strait did it rite!
Nobody does this better than the original, but this song is great whoever sings it.
Webb Pierce was the O.G, and still my favorite.

Webb Pierce is the original to this song
Wow thank you so much. You must be the only person in the whole world to know that listening to this song. So glad you’re here to contribute so much knowledge to everyone.
Actually this is the original songeriter and singer of this song czcams.com/video/wWBSS9gwNnY/video.html&feature=share
REAL....Country!...For all you...uh..'wannabe's.' THIS!...is what it sounds like...!
I love those old timers also but the fact is George Strait is about the last hope for traditional (as I know it) country music.
OMG - God sure did his best work when he created George Strait... O yeah! *sigh*
Different style from George Strait to Johnny
Sam Hunt brought this golden masterpiece back to modern day relevancy
And fuckin ruined a classic song in the process
@@bub927 how did he ruin it if the original song still exists lol just go listen to the original
Loved Johnny Bush version but George's is good as well.
Michael .Konvicka George’s version is better
@@hudsonwright6506I'll disagree with ya. Johnny Bush has the best version of this song

This Man! This Song!! Just melts me, love it!!!
if you want the original song, here is the link: czcams.com/video/Uyuub51sPCM/video.html
Who’s here from Sam hunts new song hard to forget
Conway Twitty /Webb Pierce and many others sang the song!!
Real country is the best!
Yes, but he will never beat the man that first sang that song. The late great Johnny Bush. Nobody could match him for that song and for Whiskey River.
What ever happened to George Strait? I see he's still touring but, you never hear about or see him anymore.
Canada loves George Strait!!!!!....February 24,2016.
+Alfred Kloos hey I love The king and I'm a from montreal canada!! where you're from??

CountryStar74 He has 60 number 1's.
Webb Peirce did this song originally. It's been covered so many times by so many singers. But only singer can really sing this song. Johnny Bush.
Patty Loveless has the best cover, maybe even better than Webb Pierce's original.
Johnny Bush and Jake Hooker has the best version of this song bar none
George once more Belgium esspeccialy me, love you and your songs
Here from Sam Hunt's Hard To Forget but this original is actually so good!
I like that song.... but I don't like how they used "there stands the glass" within it.
Damn he is badass! I think he does this song better than anyone in my opinion.
Wow!!!! I had never seen this................awesome!!! What can I say Texas does great things and George Strait is an example of just that!!
I wish he would zing this at his concerts!!! 🎉❤
My first one=in a long time. I think? coming my way again?
@MrDemonface123 I think both artists do it their seperate ways; Webb Pierce has the early sixties Nashville sound and George Strait's Texas sound. Both do a great job on this song, and it makes the song slightly more relevant to those who don't necessarily like the 60's Nashville sound.

@sperk31161,
Dont hate me though. I love George Strait. He's the best there is today. Just putting things in perspective.

I like Ray Price's version of this song too. George rocks...
I love george strait, but johnny bush has him beat on this song!
What about Webb Pierce?
@@JHoselton83 Thats a good match, Webb Pierce is great as well.
